Hackett: Of course. It's a special mission - one where your skills and your Spectre status is needed. I'm sending you into the Terminus Systems. Take the Normandy, I already assembled a basic crew. You might pick some extra crewmembers as well.
Ashley: I see. Is there anything else I should know before I depart? Also I may need to visit the Citadel and talk to ambassador Shepard-
Hackett: It is about Shepard. He vanished a few days ago - my sources told me, he was seen piloting a shuttle into the Terminus Systems. I want you to find out why.

Shepard: *shakes head* Ash ... I did enough. This isn't my fight. There are ... better people. Ashley, you know me more than anyone else. I can't be a soldier anymore, and I'm no politician. My act is done. It's time to make place for those we fight for ... we lost friends for. Ash, it's your time, not mine.
Ashley: Nonsense. You're still Commander Shepard, first human Spectre.
Shepard: Doesn't a hero deserve some rest, Ash?
Ashley: Yes. He does. And this is your chance to do something without getting a gun put in your face every single day. Take the job.
Shepard: I think about it ... but I'm not sure if I'll pick that option. Maybe ... maybe as an Ambassador, for a while. But that's it.
Ashley: Sounds good enough. And ... Shepard?
Shepard: Yes?
Ashley: Don't get into political crossfire. I'd really hate to see you finally get beaten down by some bureaucrats and corruptionists.
Shepard: I'll try my best. And what are you going to do? You ... you won't stay here, right? *bit sad*
Ashley: No ... I'm going to do some jobs for Hackett. The Normandy won't be the same without you, but I'll take care of her. And I want to check for you as often as I can, Skipper. That's all for now ...
Shepard: Maybe I should take the Councilor job - those guys have Quantum Com. Ambassadors don't have.
Ashley: No. Besides that, you're still a Spectre - and last time I checked the Spectre's room has a QCom as well. We stay in touch ... I love you ... *smiles*

Just completed my 3. playthrough of the saga. Im putting ME on ice until the Levaithan DLC comes out (maybe still a little MP).

And if anybody is considering picking Morinth over Samara, DONT! There is ZERO payoff for her character.

Great dialogue. Please keep this thread alive! I hate seeing Ash threads dying out. There is always something to talk about Ash! yeah I agree about morinth. I never picked her cause I'm fully paragon but I think I fought her as a banshee and i barely noticed it. Btw is that what the new DLC is called? If so, I can't wait. Even though me3 was dissapointing, it's still more new mass effect and hopefully Ash for me.

In my headcanon, Shepard is still Captain of the Normandy.

I hate this in endings- they are too open.

I imagine Shepard's future would play out much like Maverick's at the end of Top Gun. You know, where he can pretty much do anything he wants anywhere. I don't see him becoming a council member though...

Also, in my headcanon, this anything anywhere involves lots of Ash.

No one said Shepard took the position. And the ambassador job is just a trade off since someone wants to place Shep at a visible spot off the battlefield.

Needless to say Shepard grabs his gun and starts his very own mission ...

@survivor, I read chapter 3 of wrath of thunder a few days ago. I loved it, ready for more.

In regards to the original version of Shepard, I have a texture skin that I put my xbox that has the original ME1 box art. Shapely Ash and original Shepard's face included.

ah but he's NOT Carth. He's Kaidan Alenko. If sharing voice actors meant sharing character traits ashley would be a wheelchair bound information broker because Kim brooks plays Oracle in the Batman Arkham games.
 Trust me I used to be the same way, but you can't knock it until you try it.

Kaidan isn't that much different than Carth and I have to admit that Carth did pop in my mind for some time when I played ME1 the first time. I never thoguht about Jun'Ko when Shepard was around.

The difference is that Oracle's voice is slightly different.  Also, Oracle is F****** AWESOME.  Carth is a putz.  Which is too bad, because I like RS on Once Upon a Time.  Though he sounds totally different in real life, which just confirms that he used the same voice, and thus they're the same character, and I really wish he'd just stayed on the Endar Spire...

So yeah, it's just too late for me.  Ashley must always live, so I have decreed from my (imaginary) mountaintop.

@scotiej just wondering, how did you put a texture mod on your Xbox? And by the way in my canon, my Shepard is retired on a beach house with Ash, on her home colony, close to her family. And that's after they go around the galaxy with ALL his old crew for a couple of years doing missions 'just like old times' Garrus ftw. And to me I don't think that is too much because I think it's totally realistic.
