It surprises me how many people forget to factor the salarians in to that decision.
Yes, as long as you help them during the main mission, they survive no matter who you decide to go after. But it's not like Shepard has any way of knowing that in game...
Edwin Shepard hated leaving Kaidan, and the fact that Kaidan was higher ranking than Ash did cross his mind. But Ash was with an entire squad of elite STG operatives...
How does that even work, if you go back and save the bomb person they should still be trapped by Geth at the tower and thefore be killed aswell.

Exactly krukow, same here. It seems like they watered that trait of hers down in ME3. She gets a lot of hate because of that, but I think it gives her more character. Personally I think Ashley has the most story and character than anybody else. She is awesome. I just think people don't want to take the time to understand her. And for some she just might not be their 'type', and I can understand that. But hating on her because she is a religious freak and a racist cow (I've seen people say that) does not sit right with me at all. And you can see her transform, and learn from what she has been through all three games, into a matured beatuful strong willed loving woman. She comes to understand other races and stands for what she believes in. And loves Shepard even more.
