Personally I abhoured Saren Arterius and TIM as well. Both are so damn self-righteous, believing that they alone are the solution to the galaxy's problems.

In ME1, Cerberus seemed to kill more humans than "aliens" (Seeding dragon's teeth onto human colonies, Rachni launched at Alliance facilities, luring Alliance marines into Thresher Maw nests, experimenting on survivors and finally murdering an Alliance admiral whom investigates)

In ME1, it appears at no point did Saren ever consider telling the Council of the Reapers (granted he may have been brainwashed at that point). Had he alerted the Citadel fleet to Sovereign's prescence, they could have target it and prevented the signal from every reaching dark space.

Both made mind boggling mistakes when dealing with the Reapers (if you're "partner" keeps trying to brainwash you, perhaps you should end the partnership). Both jumped on top of their soap boxes when confronted with the truth. Both dropped the ball, when the opportunity came to end the Reaper threat.

Yet when Shepard does tell them about the Reapers, they dismiss it as hogwash and go straight into denial, right until the Reapers show up at at their doorstep.

Everything Saren and TIM does, from getting on their soapbox to going outside of the law to deal with the Reaper menace is exactly what Shepard also does.

While Shepard's motives are benevolent, how does this seriously make them any different?

Considering starting up another single player campaign, playing through the Coup so I get Ash back and then I can bring her for the DLC if I decide its worth buying.

On the one hand, it's hard to blame Saren and TIM for everything, because they've been indoctrinated for so long- Saren since right after his mission with Anderson, and TIM since Shanxi. On the other hand, their indoctrination was a long, slow process that built upon existing personality traits. They were bastards to begin with.

I used to hate the idea that TIM was indoctrinated, and that Cerberus (in it's final form) was a result of that. Really wanted them to just be plain old bad guys. But I'm coming around to the idea they were so damn awful, especially to their own species, that maybe it could only be the result of indoctrination. I forget who said it in-game, Javik maybe, that every cycle has it's own version of Cerberus. It's just another part of the Reapers' plans. So I guess there's a good reason Ash can't wrap her head around it. It's not natural at all.

Has anyone ever noticed how their isn't much banter really when you're in the final battle?

I reckon I'll take Ashley with either James, or EDI. Since I'm a vanguard, I tend to not even use Javik or Liara, they both suck anyway. They both kept dying, I Couldn't believe it, same with tali though, she dies on Rannoch heaps.

I've always chalked it up to there being barely any time to breathe in-between enemies, nevermind banter with each other.

The thing about TIM - yes, he wanted to stop the Reapers, but really, TIM cared about human dominance more than anything else.

Which is reflected in HOW he wanted to stop the Reapers. Even if TIM hadn't been indoctrinated, do you really think the galaxy would be "saved" if he stopped them his way? In the sense that it would have avoided an apocolypse it would, but it would have been a galaxy where humanity controlled the works by using the Reapers to keep everyone under their thumb. And by "humanity" I mean "Cerberus." Because, you know... "Cerberus is humanity," and all that bullsh*t.

TIM is a despicable individual who happened to have goals that were somewhat, sort of in the best interests of the galaxy when it came to the Reapers. Edwin Shepard kind of viewed working with him the same way I'm sure many of the Allies viewed working with Stalin during World War II - something that wasn't at all pleasant, but necessary for the moment.

And, of course, the second TIM and Shepard's goals seperated, even a little, the whole thing fell apart.

The fact of that matter is that Shepard executes these actions in order to stop the Reapers. Not bargain with them or control them. Stop the Reapers, end their menace once and for all (this is of course working witha Destroy Shepard).

WRT to the council denying the Reaper threat. Have you looked at modern governments, news media and pundits with regards to climate change? I'm pretty sure there would have been some FOX style media coverage handling the Reaper threat and passing it off as delusions of madness.

hmm....I wonder what a Mass Effect style Glen Beck would sound like...

A more likely scenario is that by the time the last level came around, Bioware had already gone over budget. But it can be headcanoned that there is so much going on that there isn't much time for witty comments.

Notice that most of the witty comments occur between the action, the last segment has you barrelling through London, with Reapers overhead fighting a climatic battle. Not much time for witty banter

I'm afraid games based on movies have a very... poor history. Almost as bad as movies based on games.

Perhaps Rambo will be different, though.

I actually think games based on movies have done far worse. I cannot think of one single good one, and ET the game is a litaral tragedy.

I sort of enjoy the Resident Evil games in a fun/stupid way, and Silent Hill was okay (except for the 20 minute monologue towards the end where the little girl explains everything EC style...)

Also, on-topic: I'm doing another playthrough since I finally bought Javik. Does Ash have any cool dialogue (since it is on Eden Prime)? I'm saving that mission for right after the bomb mission (which you have to do right after the coup, to prevent Eve going boom). I did it already on another playthrough, and Garrus had some dialogue, and he wasn't even there! So yeah, hopefully Ash gets something during the pre-mission landing sequence.

Ash does get some dialogue. If romanced its can be kinda sweet and sappy...than Liara butts in.

Don't worry Ash had equal dialogue with others when taken on missions (some of its quite unique). Its just on the Normandy that her dialogue suffers.

should I wait till after the citadel date when the romance is locked in then?  I mean, my shep has been a loyal Ashmancer, but it's not "locked-in" yet unfortunately...
