If you're looking for emotional response from Ash, watch the Horizon scene from ME2. She goes from amazment at Shep's return, to slight anger that he never contacted her (she doesn't quite understand that he was dead for 2 years, since that never happens. Like, ever), to complete betrayal as he not only didn't contact her, but he's now working for cerberus. If anything, her last lines make complete sense (the stuff about how she knows where her loyalties are, ie the alliance). Shep has just thrown her world into utter chaos, and she's simply falling back on what she's always relied on: Loyalty and duty.
It's why she has to send the email later, expressing how much she wants Shep to come back to her, but how she just can't join him yet.

If anything, there is the perfect payoff to this whole situation if you take her on the cerberus mission. She watches the video clips of TIM when they were bringing you back, and she realizes just how manipulated you were into working with cerberus. And then when you see the human reaper, she expresses how she wishes she had come with you, and Shep of course responds that all that matters is she's here now.

It's a really nice arc, and I actually enjoy it a lot. I don't feel I'm doing it justice.

TOP ASH!

Yeah but I remember playing ME2 for the first time (no Me1) and I was all "who is this chick and why is she so angry at me?!" LOL

Emotional Ash is emotional.

It was so confusing. First she declares I'm a hero (your god damn right I am), then I get a hug, then I proceed to get ****ed at, then Garrus chimed in (Wait, you know this chick?!) and then Kelly asks if I miss her????

And then it finally clicked.. that was the person I dated or whatever in the Genesis comic... Oooops... LOL

Ya actually I played ME2 first, romancing Miranda. And I thought the same exact thing lol. But yeah on my latest playthrough of ME3 I brought her with me on the Cerberus mission for the first time because I wanted to see her reaction when seeing the vids. And when she regretted not being there, it was really sweet when my Shepard was like," You're here now." and they look at each other. It was well worth it. Now that I think about it she should have never sent that message, or reward Shepard, for what he did to her. But I guess that's emotional Ash for ya.

Lol, First time I played ME2 before I got one. I was thinking 'Ah - this chick called me a god, talk about an ego stroking. :D' then all of a sudden she started yelling at me to contact her. I literally yelled back 'But I don't know who you are! What is your significance to me?!" at the monitor. I was alone at the time, therefore avoided awkward explanations for my immediate family.

Then I got ME1 a few months later and realised 'AH! That's who she is... totally romancing the chick.'

Well, see, that's the thing.  Her world was in chaos at that point.  She didn't know what to do, but she did know that Shep was alive, and that she didn't want to lose him.  How that works out, she didn't know, she just knew how she felt.  It's why she can send him that message, and completely mean it, but never visit when he was under arrest.  And it's completely understandable.

It's okay though, because I shot the tube, and now they get to spend their lives togetherPosted Image

Genesis comic?? Just wondering, what is that? Is it part of the comic series of Mass Effect, before the games? Because I thought that Shepard wasn't in any of those at all?

It was for playstatioin players, because ME1 can't be on playstation(microsoft owns it, that's why their logo is in the ME1 loadup screen).  So they could chose options and set their backgrounds.  It's not an actual comic book, it's a "comic book".

Hmm, the Genesis comic discussion raises an interesting question. How many of you started with ME1 or picked up on ME when 2 came out?

I have a feeling a good percentage of Ash hate/misunderstanding might stem from players who started with 2 and got negatively colored by her freak out. Hard to erase a first impression like Horizon even if you go back and see how rad Ash is in ME1, neh?

Also, shameless plug: new Officially Unofficial is up.

I played ME2 first, and for a long time Miri > Ashley for me. Ashley was just the ME1 romance before you got to Miri.

Ashley just eventually passed her in my eyes because she's an even deeper character. You get to discuss religion with her, you can tease each other, and the romance isnt' kicked off with you "admiring her body" (the actual dialogue choice and dialogue for Miri).

They're both great, Ash is just better :)

Oh ok thanks krukow. It's true, Ashley always did know how she felt. And yeah I chose destroy too. I shot the red tube! Who wouldn't want Shepard to live? And everybody knows that starchild is a dirty little liar. My Shepard got his reunion with Ashley. I just wish I didnt have to canon so much of it. And you know what? They did live happily ever after. People can say what they want about the endings but that's what happened in mine. Although, Shepard still has nightmares, and has to recover from severe body damage, but Ashley is right there beside him to comfort and support him always^.^

@Ren - Perfect. Going to read while I'm still jamming here.

To be honest I skipped through Genesis my first time playing too. I just wanted to play, damn it. I bought it off the PS Store out of boredom so I wasn't in the mood for a long ass story with no action. That original playthrough was a train wreck looking back on it. LOL I gave Legion to Cerberus, ratted out Tali, disregarded a few other loyalty missions, failed Thane's... so yeah.

I agree sporeaddict. They're both soldiers. They knew this wouldn't be a sunshine and bunnies war. If anything, they lost less than they were prepared to (most of my squaddies survived. I always save everyone I can). I think they'll both be fine going forward, and while I see them as being prefectly happy to do whatever they can to help with the rebuilding, I see them being semi-retired and just enjoying their lives. I mean, they've earned it, right!?

I would have loved just a 2 second scene that showed them together (just to establish that Shep was okay, and that they were together), but the ending was enough. Especialy with the nameplate thing. Given how much BW tried to go for "art" at the end, Ashley not putting up the nameplate is far more meaningful as a symbol of what happened, and not just a narrative fact. It symbolizes that he's alive, and that Ash knows it.

My first time, Jacob said the vent was practically a suicide mission, so I sent Thane (since he was dying anyways)...

@krukow, yes they definitely earned it ^.^ and I agree, even if it was just blackness you just hear Ashley breathing fast hearing her feet against the rubble, running,"Oh my....there he is MOVE!", she shouts to her crew behind her. She runs over to him happy, but torn as he sees his condition, but he's alive. She kneels down beside him trying to wake him up," Shepard! Liam! Wake up soldier! I am not going to lose you again!" Shepard breathes heavily but is alive," Ash....", he lazily waves his, arm touching her smooth face," we...*cough* we got it done. Now...we can go home." Ashley smiles while caressing his face, letting her tears fall on his bloodied face," Yes. You got it done Skipper, now we can go home." ~credits~ I dunno, something like that would have been awesome. Maybe shorter but I would have been happy if I got that. The nameplate was okay I guess.....
*I wrote this on my phone, sorry if there are errors :P

I played ME1 first. I game on the Xbox 360 so I just ordered it online. I was always baffled by people who decided to start off with the second game in the trilogy instead of the first one. Doesn't make sense until I realized ME1 was unavaliable for the PS system. My mistake.

Anyway, I can see how Ash would be a horrible romance to players who started with ME2. I like Miranda as a character but it just doesn't have that zing that Ashley and Shep have. Those two have a genuine relationship. Not to mention the chemistry they have is amazing.

Just to give you an idea, I was never a gamer.  I only played three types of games:
1.  Sports (College football player here)
2.  Superhero (collected comics as a kid)
3.  Starwars (Cuz C'mon!)
So anyways, the original KOTOR was my FAVORITE GAME EVER.  So Bioware is running these awesome ads about putting together a team and going on a suicide mission, and I realized bioware was the group that made KOTOR, so I decided to splurge, and that's how I got into ME.  Because ME2 was AMAZING AND RULED MY LIFE.

In fact, Mass Effect made me a gamer, as I'll now try other games if they're supposed to be awesome enough.  But I never did that before Mass Effect 2.

@sporeaddict typos are fine :)  We're all Ash fans here, and thus by definition, we're awesome.  So typos are no big deal.  And I like your headcanon, though in mine, Shep is up and around and waiting for the Normandy when they return.

Ash: I should have known you'd survive, you were always stubborn.
Shep: I learned from the best.

I suck at dialogue, but that's supposed to be a callbackPosted Image

Not gonna lie, that is a hot Shepard! ^_^ Is it a head morph?

P.S. I hope there is banter like what a romanced Tali got in her mission.
Also if anyone wants to do some MP on the PS3 or PC my ID for both is Miss_Sharp. <3 (I'm primarily on the PC but I occasionally go on the PS3)

I tweeted Gamble and he said there's tons of dialogue, and in an interview/demo I watched he says it's more story driven than FPS driven.

So there should be lots of fun dialogue, I hope.
