But I suck at knowing where various names/ethnicities come from.

I always thought she was some sort of Eastern European just based off of her facial features. But 100 yrs into the feature, I would assume everyone is a mixed race at that point. I can see the Latina heritage in her, maybe from her mom's side of the family.

I could see that.

And yeah, at that point in the future, there's probably been a lot more mixing, though some race elements still remain.  Anderson is still black, Kasumi is still asian (I think?), etc.

What I do love about ME is that it doesn't matter.  Like, seriously, the race of each various human is never mentioned.  I could see that being true someday.  I also hope it is, though sometimes I doubt our ability to get there...

Ashley has a Latina heritage, according to her writer. I used to be as tanned and brown as she was, but since starting high school and uni and quitting most of my outdoor activities, my skin's become very pale - almost ghost-like. (granted a noted lack of iron might have something to do with it as well.)

By ME, earth had become a melting pot of different cultures. Unfortunately, rarer recessive traits like blue eyes, blond or red hair and others are almost non-existant. Just adds to Shepard's uniqueness that his eyes are such a distinct blue.

Hell, Kai Leng was a slavic/chinese mix. Shepard's canadian-born, but I definately see anglo-cletic there.

Yeah no thanks on the Spanish. lol Living in Florida, I've become....bitter towards the Spanish language. Mainly because the people who speak it all seem to be either A) rude or loud and obnoxious or C) both. Seriously, you'd be awestruck... So that's kind of a turn-off for me. lol

Kaidan is Canadian. From Vancouver even I think is mentioned at one point. So he's probably a dirty Canucks fan. That's the real reason my Shepard left him on Virmire; Shep's a Flames fan.

That's a terrible reason to let someone die.  My shep takes a moment to consider, weighs each and every pro and con, and then lets Kaidan die because he's not Ashley

I live in California. I know about the Spanish speakers lol.  However, It isn't so bad here, but then again I live in Norcal. 

My Shep is from Vancouver as well. He is fluent in French because. . . I don't know. I just thought it would be cool. 

@Krukow - My Shep was already heading to Ashley before Kaidan even finished his sentence.

I like to think of it less like my Shep didn't have a conflict over who to save, and more of my shep respected Kaidan's opinion too much.  He tells shep to save Ashley, and Kaidan is a Lt, so yeah.  My shep just took the advice of his fellow officer.

Okay, not really, he just had to save Ash.

So fun story ashmancers.  I flew down and met the other half of my unit for the first time today.  And I was sitting next to one of our assistant deputy attorney generals, and it turns out he's a mass effect player too (just ME2/3).  And I'm quizzing him, and he plays renegade and kills every squaddie he can (even enjoyed shooting mordin in the back) and he romanced Miri, and we're having fun talking about ME, when all of a sudden I had a potentially terrible revelation and then the following conversation took place:

Me: Did you kill Ashley?  If you killed Ashley, we can't be friends and I can't do analysis for you anymore.
Him: No, she survives.  She's even one of the ones that comes out of the ship at the end.  Her and garrus...
Me: Okay, good.  Because I seriously wouldn't be able to do analysis for you anymore...
So I may take this too seriously...

Since neither her last or first name sounds very Latin, my guess is that Ashley's ethnic origins are English or Welsh from her father's side of the family and Latin from her mother's.

You've got me on that side: Ashley surely has either a latin mother - or her mother is part latin. Her dad is caucasian, like General Williams himself.

Well, Ashley's eyes and her brows have a very strong hint of latin to me
