I dunno, let's call a spade a spade. The mass effect movie won't be anything more than a popcorn movie with some fun ideas. And all popcorn movies, ALL OF THEM, have a romantic sub-plot of some sort. I'm trying and can't think of one without...

nah, every movie needs a love story sub-plot. and mass effect is ripe with em. it will play out as a love triangle between ash and liara. shepard will be torn between the two. virmire will be a critical point in the movie like in the game. he will save and choose ash as his love interest (or maybe save both) cue pre illios sex scene. dpending on how the genrale audinces react to the love plot will determine whether or not shepard stays loyal to ash or "moves on" after horizon.

if he stays loyal shepard reunite with ash in ME3 and she wont die during the coup. (movie makers wont have shepard killing any of his sqaudmates)

I had a vague itch awhile back to do a webcomic of Mass Effect High School that followed the trilogy through their high school years. Both male and female Shepard represented as brother and sister, though a younger version of that could be super cute if this little illustration is any indication.
