Yeah, I loved the original KOTOR, but Carth Onasi is SUCH A PUTZ in that game.  So I play ME1 for the first time, and Kaidan goes to speak and IT'S FREAKING CARTH!

So I had no real interest in talking to him much.  Tried it once, and Carth started whining about headaches, and I was out.

So I'm trying it again.

Also, Carth sucks.

Good character, good soldier, doesn't betray you or poking you "why you with Cerberus" about every 3.14 seconds or pouring tonns of inconsistency on you. What's not to like? He does the job, helps you out.

I really don't get why many people dislike Kaidan, Jacob, James or Carth, especially when everything ending with one-lines similar to "it's art". I.e. no detailed description reasons for animocity or "lack of simpathy". It's like complaining why somebody hates Ash, calling her hurtful names without real reason.

Simply put, if you say you "just don't like" some character, then you have to allow other people to "don't like" any character, including those you like. Otherwise, your statement about badmouthing looks somewhat double-standard (one is enough) and hypocritical.

As for KotOR, didn't also Mission ran away if you embrace "dork side"?

And people can not like characters if they like.  I don't care if someone doesn't like Ashley.  I just don't like when they start saying things that are false like she's xenophobic and racist.  There's a difference.
