[Funkcase]

I think each crew member just represents something , so they all play a big part in the storyline. Ash/Kaidan is the secound human Spectre, they're also the Alliance representative working with Shepard. I believe all past squadmates are going to play a big part in the story, and with the VS being a permanent squadmate and a possible love interest I doubt they would turn on Shepard.

I swear they indoctrinate Ashley -- Bioware is going to lose sooooo much  creditibility in my eyes... that is just WEAK. WEAK  *Alex  from SF3 voice* WEAK!     I hope  Bioware writers have more sense than that to create a sense of drama in this last leg of ME 3 trilogy .    Why I think it would be weak is that   it comes off a cheap way to  cover up  choices between LI  just as cheap as the Miranda/Jack  agruement .

Well, if anything like that happens... I'll have to go back to ME1 and... and...:crying: leave Ash on virmire for an honorable death defending the nuke. Kaidan can be indoctrinated instead.

Hey why all the pessimism! You could speculate about it in a optimistic way!

I agree with Funkcase, it's highly likely that Ash will be the Alliance representative and perhaps the big role will be that she needs to convince the alliance to work with Shepard, rebuild trust between the 2!

Not all speculation  just its that one thing that Irks me to no end its like gnat at BBQ buzzing around my plate of fresh off the grill ribs.  Its like  its the only thing that can be used to create some human drama between characters. I just don't want  Bioware to take the  JK Rowlings route and  start killing peope off for the sake of drama... I find that rather lame.

I like  Ash from the first time I saw her in the Commerical for ME

Yes but I'm less worked up and happier than you right now! Plus somebody needs to keep the mood bright!
And if all my hopes come crashing into me thanks to Bioware, then I'll become a cynic... (I'm doing a great job at keeping the mood bright)

@Elek I would agree that that is more likely, but I hope they won't do stuff like if she's your LI you can save her, that's like punishing you for doing nothing wrong. Besides those restrictions of freedom haven't been in the previous games, so I don't think they will now.

Ashley would have to be around a Reaper device for a long time. It would just be cheap if they made Ashley turn on Shepard. They only way I could see them working that in is. Ashley starts to hear voices, Shepard trying to find a way to remove indoctrination or turning her into Bastlia 2.0. I serously doubt ethier one will be in Mass Effect 3.

@Reed Ashley CAN rally a species, she can rally the Alliance. I can see alot fo the brass besides Hackett and Anderson being short and mistrusting with Shepard and leaving her out to dry when she needs them, then Ashley standing at her side and getting them on Shepard's "team" so to speak. With Shepard out of the picture Ashley is the best thing the Alliance has going so she can rally them if need be. Kaidan too. Tehy're both career marines so they msut have a ton of pull now since they're Spectre's. Hell they could rally the Spectre's, which would be amazing.

I mean the Alliance IS humanity, basically.  And humanity is Earth. And this story, Shepard's story is really a human story.  Yes there are amazing characters that are not human but we as people invested in the story are all human.  That's what we're all going to identify with. That's what makes it all "emotionally engaging." Ash or Kaidan?  Yeah, they are pretty much the human part of the story here.

This I believe is where Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani can BEST make her appearance in Mass Effect 3.

She accost Shepard and ask him what he thinks of the Systems Alliance New Spectre?

Shepard can reply by either choosing the conversation wheel options of:

- I Approve

- No Comment

- I DO NOT Approve

I find myself, mostly in regards to (so-called now) Lieutenent Ashley Williams leaning greatly toward the latter choice.For these reasons:

I will never forget two or three things that she said that raised a "Red Flag" in my mind.

1. Ashley: "As noble as the Council members may seem now.If there backs are against the wall,they will abandon us." Look.If your fighting a bear and the only way for you to survive is to sick your dog on it and run.You'll do it! As much as you love your dog, it isn't human.Its not racism, not really.Members of thier species will always be more
important to them, than humans are."

2. "The Alliance is in my blood." and "I know where my loyalties lie."

Err... Does this sound like a candidate for the Spectres? Ashley has made it perfectly clear that her career and service in the Systems Alliance matters more to her than anything else in her life.It matters more than
Shepard.It matters more than "Fighting for the Lost" It matters more than picking up the torch in Commander Shepard's absence and fighting the "good fight" against the Reapers!!

Are we to truly believe that a person who has defended the Alliance as fervently as her.Could ever bring herself to do something as a Spectre that may very well, not be in the best interest of the Alliance? But in the best interest of the galactic community as a whole?

If Shepard does not endorse Ashley as the first female human Spectre.Just think about how much heat

SERVICE TO THE ALLIANCE being the key phrase there. Service to the Alliance and to humanity. She has a cause to anchor her, a reason to stay honest and keep on the 'paragon' path. Unlike Saren, who had no loyalty to anyone, who certainly had no loyalty to the Council and even less for his people.

And please, as if Shepard would have ANY credibility with the press. If anything, him bashing Ash would make him seem like a little boy who is angry that his toy got taken away. So, dream on

I have just one question - how does joining a human-centric organization like Cerberus make Jacob a better candidate, compared to someone who didn't give up?

Granted, Jacob has done good things, but, when push came to shove...he walked away, rather than stand his ground/tough it out and, at least, try to make others see what was at stake. (i.e. the 'red tape' issues he talked to Shep about)

Sorry, but that doesn't sound like Spectre material to me.

And, the Alliance is working with the galactic community, the same cannot be said for Cerberus.
Saren had his 'issues' with other species, but that didn't stop him from being a top-rated Spectre in the eyes of the council. (pre-ME1 of course)

@Ubermensch007; First of all Shepard is supposedly one of the miracles in the Mass Effect universe, and he has currently achieved what NO other person could do, therefore nobody could do as much as Shepard.
Jacob wouldn't be made Spectre, because he turned his back on the Alliance and chose to work for a widely considered terrorist organisation instead. Alright then, why Ash? She's an alliance soldier, who fought with Shepard she's seen more of the galaxy than most people.

the 2 quotes you used are from Mass effect 1, a lot has happened since then, Ashley has more experience it is likely to asume her views on aliens have infact changed a little. We don't know what Ash's viewpoint on aliens is right now.

Ash is human and defends humanity and not in a radical way, she's loyal to the Alliance. which all makes her a perfect candidate for the Alliance, after that she'll surely have had some evaluation, by an alien.

Lastly Ash can play any number of roles in the story, she could represent the Alliance, or even humanity as a whole. She could play a big part in finding some way to take down the Reapers. She could have to convince the Alliance to do the right thing in a moment of doubt, she could convince the Allliance where Shepard can't.

That's what I wanted to add.

(Been trying to go easy on the forums to minimize spoilers, although I want to know REALLY badly, I even have a Google news alert set up to email me anything that comes up with "Mass Effect Ashley")

Also as I said back on the 1.1 thread the traditional format for romance has been, in between "storyline" missions you get some dialogue after each which furthers the plot and then you get the big shabam right before the grand finale.  There's a good chance they repeat that just because it is a way to not "let the dog catch up to the car" too early in the game and have you longing for something more the whole game.  Because if they get a nice reunion out of the way quick (a la Badpie's "Starboard Observations") they'd have to think up something pretty creative to have you working towards for the rest of the game (romance-wise, not Reaper-wise).

What would really suck is if you tried to talk to her in between missions and it never went much past "We're all busy now Shepard, we'll have time to sort this out after everything calms down."  Luckily we only got one of those in ME1 lol.
