Apparently they've been on and off wiht he turians and the turians gave them that during an on period and since the Normandy is partially turian developed it got a similar tech.

Nah the tech just works better on smaller ships like the Normandy, as opposed to a massive drednaught.

He seemed like an okay character (though if you ask me, his introduction to me3 and to your crew on the normandy did nothing to the actual storyline..i'd rather have Jack or Grunt in his place tbh.)

I don't like Vega for a lot of reasons. He questions Shepard, he's reckless, and in my opinion is a very boring character. He basically has the same story as Shepard. He is annoying as hell, and just gets on my nerves...<_<
I agree, I liked Jack and really liked Grunt. I would have rather had one of them so much more than Vega 

I also would have liked to have Miranda instead of EDI and Kasumi instead of Liara, but thats not gonna happen...
