Kaidan gets a similar jump of ranks - by 3 or 4 ranks, if I remember correctly. The only advantage he has compared to Ash is that he's an commissioned officer already and don't need to go back to Academy. Ash has to.

I dunno if Ash got a field promotion (which means she became a commissioned officer thanks to fulfilling her duty) or by Academy in those nearly three years. Remember? Between Horizon and the Invasion, another six months have passed. Also between Shepard's awakening and Horizion, some time has passed too. So in very best case, 2,5 - 3 years have passed between "GC Williams" and "LC Williams". Time enough for Academy?

The really odd thing is: Ash is only OC in ME2, means, she jumped 5 ranks within 6 months. Is OC her interim rank while being at academy? O.o

Whatever, we'll never find out.

The "Wehrmach System" won't help us here. It's a different army, a different time and different circumstances.
