Actually have to. Senior officers (hard to say where they begin in ME universe) generally attend special courses for them, because their level of command (and responsibilities) is differrent from those of junior officers.
And Kaidan jumped from StLt in ME1 to StCdr in ME2, right across Shepard's "eternal" LtCdr. In ME3 Kaidan is Major, even given that fact that he was appointed as commander of some "biotic division" (and it's not clear whether it is some group or real division - about 10-15K of men). Gah, why I bother? You wtill won't read it.

If you read some of my post you'd probably noticed what I was saying about time between games. And I said that several months ago. But better late than never...
And I know what field promotion is. And I'd accept 1 rank up. 1, not 4.

Between Horizon and the Invasion, another six months have passed. Also between Shepard's awakening and Horizion, some time has passed too. So in very best case, 2,5 - 3 years have passed between "GC Williams" and "LC Williams". Time enough for Academy?

For 2nd Lt with preexisting service records? Possibly. For LtCdr? Not a fcuking way.
