I still check in, even if I rarely ever post anything. I enjoy seeing the new Ash pics.
I also haven't played Mass Effect in quite some time. I never finished my last playthrough of ME 3. I got through the main part of The Citadel, and a few of the squaddie meet ups, then decided I wasn't feeling it anymore. I uninstalled ME3, and I've been doing my first ever playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
I keep going back and forth on the next Mass Effect game. I'm sure I'll buy it eventually, but right now I'm enjoying my hiatus from the ME universe. There are lots of other things out there I'd like to play for awhile. If that doesn't change in the next year or two, I may not buy ME: Next exactly when it's released.

Are you going to get DAI? From what I've seen so far, it looks very good.

No, I'm not really a fantasy person, so I think I'll skip it and focus on catching up on some of the other science fiction games out there that I missed while I was focused on Mass Effect.

Since day one I could never understand how so much of the Mass Effect fandom could misinterpret her character so badly. I understand players who don't like her personality, that's not difficult to comprehend if you don't like her aggressive traits that's fine. But hateing her because she's wary of the council or because she was the one to call you out on your Cerberus alliance...That I don't understand. She was right about eveything in the end anyway, the council did throw humanity at the bear and run, every race in the galaxy did look out for their own interests first and Cerberus did end up working with the Reapers eventually any almost dooming the entire galaxy.

I understand. My post wasn't directly about you, more about the ME fandom in general. As someone who has been playing Mass Effect since the first games release I've seen ridiculous amounts of hate towards her with very little rational thought or logic to support it. It's always blah blah blah Ash is a racist ****** or blah blah blah Ashley is a ****** because she's mad at Shepard for willing joining a terrorist organisation and let's not forget blah blah blah that racist ****** Ashley killed Wrex so I nuked her ass!

I liked Ashley a lot in ME1 and even her minor role in ME2. I did not like her at all in ME3. She went from being the girl next door with a caring heart to a plastic super model with barely any personality. She was absent most of the game and then had zero purpose if recruited back to the Normandy unless she was a romance option. So much wasted potential. Miranda definitely became my favorite after Ash's poor showing in ME3.

Well I like her in 3: I like her hair and her skirt and even her boob job...

I would have preferred if there was equal "improvement" to her actual personality and not just visual eye candy. She was nothing more than a pretty face with a barbie doll body that had little to contribute to the game. It's like BioWare attempted to give Ash the Miranda makeover, but forgot to actually add the substance and interesting history that makes Miranda such a compelling character.
If I want to see sexually attractive women, I'll just look on the internet... In BioWare games, I want characters who actually have a purpose and add to the experience.

And the long talk in the hospital doesn't count? Or her supporting her sister with her loss? Besides, she's still the same person she was in 1: all that character development: she still is all of that.

I like Ashley in ME3. She is very tough on missions and rarely do I need to babysit her. Her looks in ME3 are ok, I would prefer having her hair in a ponytail or have it in a bun like in ME1/ME2
When I get her back on the ship, I take her on all the missions left in the game

You mention the only two moments she actually has a presence in the game. As far as the hospital scene is concerned, you only talk to her a few times about her family, relationship (if she was a romance), and her becoming a Spectre. Outside of the sister arc, which was very minor compared to a lot of other companions, she didn't have much of a purpose. She had virtually no dialogue at all on the Normandy, and really serves no crucial purpose after the standoff with Shepard on the Citadel with Udina.
I liked Ash's character, although I could have done without the ridiculous makeover. I just didn't like how she really didn't have a role in ME3

Honestly I like it that way: action women with a sizable bust look more intimidating to me. It somehow speaks confidence...

Me1 Ashley always said when she didn't like something (most often in a somewhat a nerving manner). ME3 Ashley doesn't. At all. (Like everyone else in ME3)
The impression that she has her own will is somehow completely missing for me.

Well there have been a few studies that show that women with larger breasts are usually more confident.
But back to the topic of Ash; I do not mind her look so much in ME3. Yes I do prefer her look in ME1-2, it is more fitting for her "I'm just a Marine." mentality. I just keep her in the regular armor she is in on Mars, looks better on her than her Spectre outfit. (For combat anyway.)

I'm glad she is out of that awful pink and white armour. I put Wrex in Phoenix armour once, he looked like a walking ice cream!

I'd prefer to see Ash in a tin foil mini skirt and thigh high boots
I find this depiction of Ash to be much more fitting that the barbie doll we received in ME3. Not only did she receive a ridiculous makeover, but she also had little to offer outside of her being placed in the hospital and being tricked by Udina. The lack of development of her character in ME3 was incredibly disappointing.

It's a hard one to get right I think. From my point of view, Ash already went through a huge personal journey in the first game in learning to work with aliens and valuing herself as more than just a soldier. I think it's because of that development that we can get away with that brief scene on Horizon in ME 2, like it works because she is already as well rounded as Shepard as a character.
In Mass Effect 3 the only lingering issue she has is in her doubts about Shepard which start almost immediately and remain a sub-plot for quite a few hours, which can in fact be entirely justified. After this plot's resolution there isn't much more to be explored, but I'd argue that is a good thing. Anything more could undermine the idea that she is finally Shepard's equal.

Hey guys-
Not that I don't appreciate that particular Ash pic, but you may want to replace it with the safe for work version. I think you may be in violation of forum rules, and I'd like to not see anyone (or the thread) get in trouble:
Some actions can result in the immediate suspension of forum privileges
There are some actions severe enough to result in immediate temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges without prior notification. Serious or sustained offenses may result in suspension of not only the user's forum account but game account as well.
Examples include:
- Threats against anyone or any group.
- Viruses, malware, worms, or Trojans.
- Sexually explicit content.
As for the topic of discussion... I guess I'm mostly okay with Ash in ME3. Yeah, I probably would have preferred sticking with the ME1 body type (it was more athletic and seemed more suited for her character) but I mostly think that's minor.
In terms of personality, she wasn't quite the same as ME1, but she had a different writer which I'm sure played a role. In universe, enough time has passed (and presumably, enough things have happened) that I wouldn't expect her to be exactly the same anyway. The big problem is a lack of content. If ME were a TV show, it would be like her going from being a member of the main cast in ME1 to being a minor character who plays a role in the story every few episodes in ME3. If it weren't for the fact that she was my Shepard's LI, I'd almost feel like she's a DLC squadmate, like Zaeed in ME2. Except Zaeed at least had his own entire mission.
I'm not sure if it's because so many of the fans don't like her, or just that the new writers didn't know what to do with her. But I think it hurt her development.
