Ashley was in the elevator on her way to Shepard's quarters. He hadn't shown up for the meeting he scheduled and now she was concerned. Shepard's focus had been slipping a little lately. He hadn't been sleeping, and the times that he had - his rest was disjointed and uneven. There were moments - in private - where he would suddenly forgot or change a subject. It was subtle things, small things at first - but when she left his quarters an hour ago, he barely even said bye let alone aknowledge her departure. The door opened with a hiss and she came to Shepard's door. Curiously, the door panel was red - locked.
"EDI - why is Skipper's door locked?"
"Unknown - Privacy settings have been engaged by party unknown: overriding." EDI's mechanical voice answered, the panel fazed green and faded completely as the door seemed to slam open.
Shepard was there - or rather, on the cabin floor next to his desk. He must have been on the chair and tried to get up, then collapsed on the way up. Ash rushed to his side, heart racing. "Oh - god. Skipper." She gasped, gently rolling him onto his back, craddling his head on her lap. He must have hit his head on the way down - a trickle of blood from his hairline down his face. "Oh Please no, John." She leant forward, hovering her cheek just over his mouth to check his breathing. Her fingers pressed on his neck.
"Williams to Chakwas! I need help in the Loft! It's Shepard! He's unconscious and not breathing!"
"On my way!" The british sounding voice responded with the same desperation.
Ashley gently set his head down, making sure his air-ways were clear. "Sorry Skip." Her fist slammed down on his sternum with a crunch before performing compressions. "Please, Stay with me John. I don't want to lose you again. I can't."
Chakwas came into the room a few agonisingly long moments with an assistance carrying a stretcher. The aged doctor set down her medkit and scanned the prone Shepard with her omnitool. "Ashley, please move aside, we need to get him breathing on his own again before we can move him to the medbay."
"I'm not leaving him again!" Ash retorted fiercely, contiuning her compressions.
"I'm not planning on letting him go again, Lieutenant." Chakwas told her sternly, "Now please, let me do my job." Ash relented reluctantly then let the assisting medic take her place.
"Is there anything I can do?" Ashley asked, helplessly. Chakwas opened up the medkit with a portible defibulator while the assistance sheared open Shepard's shirt. A jolt ran through the paddles, Shepard's chest jolted along with the charge.
"You've done beautifully, Ashley. Let me handle the rest."
"There's a pulse! Weak and irractic." The assistant informed. "Breathing is negliable."
"Let's get him to the medical bay - Quickly!" Chakwas and the medic moved Shepard to the stretcher and hoisted him out of there. Ashley followed, tears stinging in her eyes.
There we go. A sad scene for you guys.
