I've been thinking (wait what!), but if Shep dies and Ashley survives I'd love it if she'd recite the full "Oh Captain, my Captain" It fits so perfect and would make it a truely emotional moment. (And Kimberley Brooks has a sexy poetry reciting voice :P)

Here's the full poem, so everyone knows what I'm talking about:

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:

But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

Here's a snippet. Character-building for Shep.

Shepard finally found a moment to sit down and play his guitar. It had been a long time since he was able to play. Nearly eight years. He reminded himself with a sad smile on his lips. He set himself up on his bed, carefully strumming chords until he could make something that vaguely resembled music.

"That's a moldy-oldy if I ever heard one." Ashley's voice startled him and he stopped mid-chord.

"Yeah." Shepard answered, starting to play again. Ash watched his face, there was no outward change, but she could tell by that look in his eyes. When he played the guitar - Vera, he called it - the very rare instance that Ash caught him playing, his eyes looked like they were lost in a distant memory.

"You don't really like playing that in front of me, do you?" She asked, not sure if she was bitter or not. Shepard was very private when it came to that guitar, even with Ash.

Shepard stopped playing, his strumming hand falling limp. "No - it's not that." He placed the instrament on the bed and leant on his knees, elbows on his knees. "Playing it just brings back some old memories. Some of 'em are pretty painful."

Ash walked over and sat down next to him, resting her cheek on his shoulder. "You know you can talk to me about it, if it helps."

"It's... " Shepard scoffed shaking his head, "... sentimental - stupid."

"If it has you this far down in the dumps, then its probably not as stupid as you think."

"I was engaged," The statement came after a few long moments of silence. It was a huge blow to the gut for Ash. "Ages before I met you. All the way back when I just finished the N7 training."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Ash asked, sitting up straight and staring at his profile. He looked guilty, ashamed even, but continued none the less pretending he didn't hear the question.

"We were on Elysium, visiting her realtives before the wedding. I remember thinking that this girl was the one I wanted to spend my life with. She was smart, like crazy-intellegent, cultured. Almost ridiculously gorgeous and I would have gone to hell and back again for her and she used to love watching me play." He shrugged, his voice faltered only slightly, but Ash caught it. "She was - for lack of better way to say it - my high-school sweetheart."

"What happened?" Ash asked gently, the stoic, serious Shepard she had known was gone, all of his emotional armor was gone and she heard him sniffle, a tear forming in his eye.

"The batarian attack happened. I was at the military barrack - I think I was drinking with a few guys from basic, I really don't remember - and she was at her family farm on the outskirts. First place that got hit. They weren't even taking prisoners. She survived the attack barely but - " Shepard's left hand brushed past the artery on his neck. "A piece of sharpnel caught her neck and she bled to death."

"God - John. I'm so sorry." Ash whispered softly, unable to say anything else.

Shepard jerked his head towards the guitar. "She gave me that as an eighteen present. Year later I gave her a ring for hers." Shepard reached for the guitar and flipped it over, showing the inscription on the back.
'Mal - love you always and forever. Verity.'

"I don't know what to say." Ash said, shaking her head. Shepard nodded.

"It's all the past now." He said with finality, whipping the tears off his face. "That was then." He carrassed her cheek. "This is now, and I'm not letting you go anyway."

Hurray for deep emotional angle.

OMG! DON'T STOP! (that's what she said... :devil:)

This needs to be an actul fic! These snippets are killing me!

Poor Shep.

Hmmm, I think it's a bit "meaningless" to die like that. After all, it's just the last of the Reapers - I'm sure there is another way to kill that one. No need for Shepard to die with it ...
Anyhow, it's your snippet *g*

In my "Shepard-dies"-idea, he's steering a frighter with a huge payload of eezo into a sun. He wants to destroy this sun (supernova) to kill most of the Reaperfleet flying through the system ...

(It makes more sense in my eyes to do that)

Or you could... ya know, set a course for the sun and then hit the escape pods or ejection pods....

no need to die like a moron. :P

'She's walking a part of the path of her life. That part being: from meeting up with Shepard and the rest of the Normandy SR-1 crew to being one of them and recruiting the other squaddies. The Collectorship is there because that's the point that she briefly reunites with Shepard and, in my mind atleast, Garrus and Tali.

The Snippet of poetry is from Ulysses (Since she knows it by heart) and is kind of reminiscing. That is atleast what I intendet it to be...You could interpret it otherwise.

(Btw, did you have any kind of lettertype in mind..stylisticly I mean)

why not have Shepard standing a ways down the road and sort of waving at her to come on and join him? lmfao!

like seriously... lol

Sorry. I'm back at school. And a note for Badpie: you can take ideas that I've presented as dialogue on this forum, but please don't take Pierce.

Oh and another thing. Pierce is now after Vega, so god help him if Shepard ever finds out. He'd probably skin that poor b*stard alive. :-D

i have a question for you Ashley fans, i had to restart my ME series with a new Fem!Shepard (thx to my brother), and i was wondering: is there was a reason to save Ashely over Kaidan on Virmire? Kaidan is a sentinel, and may be of use against the reapers, what does ash bring to the table for ME3?

Ash is a tank, first & foremost, so really it depends on who you like to use the most in your party.

Also, what class is your Shepard? If you've chosen one that utilizes one of the skill sets, biotics or tech, that cuts down the need for a sentinel in half right there. (unless you've chosen sentinel, then you pretty much already have your answer)

If you're thinking long term, such as preparing for ME3, one thing to keep in mind is Ash's skills will now focus more on lethality. (Vega is supposed to be the defensive tank)

Then there's - which character do you like more?

As for me, with the loss of Wrex on the squad, as well as having Tali, Liara & (hopefully) Miranda, I'm covered with what Kaidan brings to the table and I'd like to have the security of a lethal tank at my side.

Besides, she's my favorite L.I. too. Image IPB

I can't believe they are going to promote her, I thought her Non-commission status was to give her a aura of tough-gal gun-ho marine sorta of feel, which was a pretty good contrast with Kaiden's reserved and more subtle approach. Now that she is a officer ...., I don't know, in war fictions, I tend to like the tough seasoned NCO character rather than the new fresh commissioned Lt. That's just me.

You should pick her. I never picked the "soldier class" in my playthroughs - my fav is Infiltrator. And you definitely need a tank of some sort. Either you pick Ashley (the "Grunt" of ME) or Wrex ("Grunt" + Extras).
In my case I did most of the story missions with Ashley and/or Wrex - that's a good combination. You're taking out most dangerous foes while Ash / Wrex deal with any incoming threats. 'nuff said.

She'll always be closer to a NCO than a full officer. Besides that, she's also a Spectre now. Her rank does not mean much anymore; she even could be CO of any Alliance ship as long as she's doing Spectre's work.

Ashley will be a great first officer. Maybe she's a better first officer than anyone else, since she climbed up the ladder without help. Most commissioned officers never had to go through lower ranks - they just went through academy. Ash is different - she basically got field promoted from non-officer-rank to officer-rank which makes her closer to lower ranks than anyone else.

On the matter of snippets, I really enjoy reading through them, so whenever anyone feels like writing/posting 'em I'll probably enjoy them. :)

@Reed; Is this her new casual outfit Reed? :P And I'm guessing you unlock it after you've had dinner with her?

Haha ;) I hope it's just her "only-Shepard-is-allowed-to-see"-outfit.

But actually, I'm more into Ash because you barely can see anything. Either she's wearing her armor or her duty dress. I'm fine with it. Everything else is a matter of imagination and mine is still quite active (at least for someone being in same age as Shepard).

I wonder if Ashley fans are in the same age as her or Shepard ...
