I wouldn't mind a stand-offish/adversarial Ash at the start of ME3, regardless of Moral choices in the previous games. It'll make the make-up scene/love-making all the better.

My Shepard would save Ash regardless. As I pointed out some 80-90 pages to go, my Shepard is dangerously near his breaking point and would probably and completely break down mentally and emotionally by the time ME3 is finished. He wouldn't care if Ashley hated him for saving her life over perhaps a thousand, but as long as she was alive to be furious about it, he would be OK.

I think all shepards need a crutch for their sanity, and John's biggest on through ME2 was wanted to see Ashley again. On Horizon, he hated the fact that he had to meet her again under those circumstances and actually did try to contact her, but Cerberus blocked his attempts (he hadn't know of course) but he still loves her and stays loyal to her, even if she refuses to love him again.

Dunno if there are any Batarians left to rescue in ME3. After all, the Reaper will make it through their space and I'm sure they won't ignore the Batarians (check out that canibal husk!!!) Besides that, somehow I can feel with those guys. Yeah, they seem to be most used enemy in ME2, like the Geth in ME. Now there's at least a chance for some Shepards Geth will become a powerful ally in the war against the Reapers.

Then you never visited one of their worlds - just one random prison world in the Bahak system. The player has no idea about Batarian society. Do most Batarians support their government? Are they okay with the idea "humans are evil"? Or are they more or less like humans with same dreams and desires, just their government f*cked up the situation and they have to pay for it?
All we know about them is that their economy relies on slavery and some of their males have a tendency to become mercenaries.
 
That's what I have in my mind. No one is entirely evil (except the Reapers maybe). The Krogans may have a different look on things, but they are not evil. The Rachni were used as tools - they're not evil. The Geth? Just a minority were out of war. The rest could even find a consensus not only to allow Quarians to come back peacefully but also to become an ally in the upcoming war. And the Batarians? Yep, you've got it. Same deal.

So I don't believe there is no chance or no way to save at least a small portion of their people in ME3. I'd do so. Hopeless paragon


As I said before there must be a REALLY good reason to sacrifice Ashley:

- Saving an entire race
- Saving the galaxy

I wouldn't sacrifice her for just a colony or two. It has to be the "big deal", nothing less. And more important - I'd do it for her. She almost got broken after Virmire - since she couldn't understand why I left Kaidan, not her, on Virmire. What do you think will happen to Ashley if you put her over an entire race?

Ashley could never love Shepard again. In her eyes he became a war criminal - killing countless billions for just one life. Because of an egoistical decision. That will make Shepard to a monster in Ash's eyes.

Never said he'd make it through it without any scratches. Aurora, you're right - Shepard won't be able to sacrifice Ashley without sacrificing a huge deal of his own sanity / soul / you name it. We both could write a fanfic about such scenario, we won't be first, it was done before already.´

By the way: can Ashley live if Shepard dies a second time? I don't think so. She's strong and she can take a beating, but she can't take another huge loss. Shepard loved her and he helped her to become more than she ever had imagined.

It's not said yet, but quite plausible. The Reapers most likely will travel through Batarian space if arriving in a Batarian system.

Ashley'd be a broken woman, probably, but if he died for a good reason/cause, if there wasn't really any other way, she'd accept his death eventually. I don't see Ash as the kind of person who'd end up insane, I'd see her like a pessimistic, sceptic, hard as nails, always seemingly in a bad mood kinda general. (Cause, in my mind, she'd probably focus even more on the Alliance if shep dies.) Only very few will know what goes on inside (How broken she is and her tender side), who knows perhaps Vega would become one of her closest friends or Jacob, he seems like an understanding person.
Anyway this is all very depressing for Ashley, just look!

Here's an angst little snippet of dialogue that apparently wouldn't stop bothering me even though I have college in 3 hours.

Ashley: Why in hell did you do it?!
Shepard: Do what?
Ashley: You know perfectly well that I would have happily died if it got those people out!
Shepard: I'm happy to have let those ten hundred people die so you made it out.
Ashley: *visibly disturbed and repulsed.* My god what in hell is wrong with you?
Shepard: Hm..?
Ashley: You never used to be like this! What in gods name is wrong with you?
Shepard: I wanted you to survive, so I let those people die. Simple as that.
Ashley: Do you have any idea what you're saying?!
Shepard: Of course I do. I'm saying it aren't I?
Ashley: Is that what you do now? The Great Commander Shepard, paragon to all, sacrifices farmers to save one marine?!
Shepard: Yes.
Ashley: My god, how superior you must feel! This isn't like you! What the hell did Cerberus do to you?!

Shepard: Can't promise.
Chakwas: Commander ... it's best for her.
Shepard: I know, but Ashley deserves to hear it.
Chakwas: It's your decision, commander, but I have to protest.
Shepard: Noted.
Ashley: What's wrong, John? What happened?
Shepard: People died. Many people.
Ashley: So the mission was a failure? The colony isn't save?
Shepard: The Reapers took it.
Ashley: How? We had an entire fleet here, enough ground units to take out them all. It was just a small force, not even ten of them, and only smaller Reapers. What happened?
Shepard: You ... you got hit. Badly. Blood everywhere. I had to rescue you.
Ashley: What ... ?
Shepard: I saved you. And the mission failed, because I did so.
Ashley: You ... you did what?
Shepard: It was my decision.
Ashley: You decided against hundreds of thousands to save just one?
Shepard: Yes.
Ashley: Why? Why me, why not them?
Shepard: Because you are important ...
Ashley: More important than thousands of civilians? John, I can't believe what you're saying!
Shepard: I had to save you ...
Ashley: No! I'm a marine! I knew the risk. I knew I could die. And I was okay with it, in that moment.
Shepard: And I couldn't leave you ...
Ashley: And you call yourself a Soldier? Like me, you knew the deal. Save lives, even if it costs your own! What is wrong with you?!
Chakwas: Commander, she needs to rest.
Shepard: Just one more minute.
Chakwas: As being the chief medical officer I say "no". Not a minute, not a second.
Ashley: Make him leave, Dr. Chakwas. I don't wanna see his face again. Ever.
Chakwas: You heard her.
Shepard: What is wrong with you both?!
Chakwas: Lieutenant Williams is right. I never thought I have to say this - but you're not the John who once went after Saren to save the galaxy. Or the one who risked everything to save his crew and friends ... you ...
Ashley: ... you became someone different. Like Saren. Like one of them. Don't you see it? You're putting own needs above the needs of many! You sacrificed thousands for one. That is not John Shepard. You are not John Shepard - not the one I had feelings for. The John Shepard I loved died with the Normandy. And I felt it already, when we met on Horizon ...
Chakwas: Commander, just leave. Williams needs rest and you ... you need some time to realize what you did.
Shepard: Is that an order?
Chakwas: An appeal. Don't make me give you an order.

(This Shepard isn't entirely insane, but warped into a darker self I guess)
