"Oh hi." He slurred slightly, though he had a smile on his lips.
"How are ya feeling?"
He gestured to his left side. "I got stabbed, right here."
"I saw." Ashley moved over and sat down. "Admiral Kaine sends his regards."
"He's such a cool dad sometimes."
"Only 'sometimes'?" Ashley asked, eyebrow raised curiously.
"Yea, the other times he sends cookies."
"Oh? Like these?" Ashley shows the bag to Shepard.
"Yes, like those."
"Do you want them?" Ashley tried not to laugh now.
"Yes please."
"You're such a child."
"Yep."

Won't be, simply because of how many FemSheps nuked Ash (by choice or by default) and Sheploos (and various deviants) who nuked Kaidan.

That's a nice picture, though I'm not sure what it's supposed to portay....
For me it shows PV Shepard's current situation between two women. He loves one, respects the other and lost his faith on Horizon. As long as both women keep their dignity at the end of this triangle I will send CHud a big thank you.

Indeed. It's much more likely vega and that unannounced female squad mate are the bi options. Especially once they said they wouldn't be changing any pre existing character's alignments.

Worth considering (I'm curious about what you mean by "various deviants," but eh). I do, however, believe that as one goes, so goes the other. So if Ashley isn't, than that means that Kaidan isn't either, and quite frankly I doubt that Vega will be the only bisexual human male. Zaeed's not in the game and Jacob's not nearly popular enough to invest more resources in, so... I suspect that if it isn't Kaidan, we'll have Garrus. But that's rather off-topic; you have a point, but it seems like it'd be easiest for Bioware to apply it to both VS'.Dave of Canada wrote...

When did they say this? It seems to contradict something else I read.Indeed. It's much more likely vega and that unannounced female squad mate are the bi options. Especially once they said they wouldn't be changing any pre existing character's alignments.
(I also refuse to believe in the existence of anyone new other than Vega, because I hate the idea of new squadmates.)

The concept of Ash being bisexual can be very controversial. For me, personally, I don't envision her that way, and it would be jarring if she suddenly admitted to my fem!sheps that she (as one of my friends puts it) "drives her car on both sides of the street." I'm sure at least one of my female Shepards would be thrilled at the news, but as a player, I would be a little disappointed.
On a meta-gaming level, it would feel like bowing to pressure from fans to include a same-sex romance by retconning a character rather than putting time and effort into developing new s/s LIs. Additionally, I like the unified humanity presented in the Mass Effect universe. Maybe I'm naive or overly optimistic, but I viewed the future presented by ME as one in which s/s relationships aren't viewed as deviant or immoral, and if Ashley (or any other human character, despite my secret hope that Miranda ends up being s/s) suddenly came out, it would say a lot about the progress humanity hasn't made, and would cause me to be depressed about our species' continued intolerance over nearly two hundred years.
Edited for punctuation!fail.

In principle, I'm not opposed to that, and I'd agree with you if this was ME2. However, it's too close to the end to stick that many new people into the squad, and quite frankly, I detest the notion of any new squadmates being added at all at this stage. I'm not happy about Vega. And I don't believe it would damage the previously established character for most of the preexisting LIs.On a meta-gaming level, it would feel like bowing to pressure from fans to include a same-sex romance by retconning a character rather than putting time and effort into developing new s/s LIs.
What, Terra Firma didn't do that already? They probably have some sort of policy that sees homosexuality as too asari-ish or something.it would say a lot about the progress humanity hasn't made, and would cause me to be depressed about our species continued intolerance over nearly two hundred years.

Problem is that Kaidan is the default in ME2 for femshep, I believe, and vice versa for Ashley. I think for the VS to be implemented as a s/s option, there would have to be a mechanic that ensures that option is available for a significant number of games. So, for example, a way for new players to relive the Virmire choice at the trial, thereby determining the gender of the VS at that point.

The fact that Ashley and Kaidan are so similar that who was alive on Horizon can be retconned this easily is rather depressing.flemm wrote...

Well, I doubt they'd allow this in imported games, since that would just be... odd. Even for ME2 players who have only ever seen the VS on Horizon. But maybe new games having the option is enough. Apparently 50% of ME2 games were new.

I imagine that there'd be less prejudice around, but it wouldn't be gone across the board. Most Americans don't think of anti-Catholic prejudice as a major issue, but it definitely still lingers. I can't imagine that all negativity regarding homosexuality would be gone.Batlass8 wrote...
@Xilizhra: Fair point about Terra Firma... I had forgotten about them. Still, I view them more as having a philosophy that puts humans--all humans, regardless of race, gender, sexual identity, age, disability, religion, or socioeconomic class--above all aliens. Again, maybe that's naive, but I'd like to believe that in the ME universe, humanity is at least ready to embrace its own, regardless of how hostile we may be towards other species.

Seriously, I don't mind what character they make available to Shepard to romance as long as it is interesting and fun. I always get nervous when a movie / tv show has a f/f relationship because as a rule I don't like the characters and/or story. (I'm looking at you The L Word
But I am giving Bioware a chance since I was really hesitant about the Liara romance and was pleasantly surprised at how it was portrayed. Yes, I know that she is not a f/f relationship in CHud's eyes

Na, seriously - I'm not sure if I like or dislike the idea of bi!Ash. The thing is - as always - everytime the player creates a new Shepard, s/he creates a new universe (plz no God complex!). In an universe with a male!Shepard Ashley will be straight and won't ever bother the player with a different allignment. In an universe with a female!Shepard, Ashley could be bi or homosexual - she just couldn't out herself in ME because of her military career, had no chance in ME2 to do so and could do it in ME3. However - she will do it only if female!Shepard is interested in her.
At least that makes sense to me. I have no idea how society will be in the 22nd century, but I'm sure they still have some kind of rule "don't ask, don't tell" in the Alliance (similar to a currently-no-longer-in-use rule in the US army). And since they also have that "no fraternization" rule, having a homosexual relationship with a superior officer could be a REAL problem.
Basically, the only truly bisexual character is Shepard him/herself - everyone else is either hetero- or homosexual, depending on own gender and gender of Shepard.
Still makes sense to me.
In a word: an homosexual ME3!Ash won't kill the lore and also won't break her character.

Just found this and not sure if posted here before ...
I'm not an expert when it comes to interpreting pictures, but let's give it a try.
Left: Ashley
Right: Miranda (must say, she looks different from the ME2!Miranda)
Center: Ashley-Shepard hug, Miranda is a bystander.
Idea: Picture could be a tribute to both women but with a clear decision towards one. Since Shepard and Ashley are hugging, this picture can be read as "Shepley" - Miranda stands nearby and doesn't interfere - maybe she accepted the love of Ash & Shepard?
Could also be read as "goodbye hug" - and Shepard is having one last hug with Ashley before he has to go on. Since this is the Horizon-hug and we all know what happened there, this could be a the true intention of the artist. In this case Miranda is "waiting" for Shepard to be all hers - or she's just a reminder who he's working for.
First idea means: Shepley
Second idea means: Mirpard (Or Sheranda ?!)
Cerberus idea means: neither nor

That part in bold for some odd reason made me laugh!
And I like your bisexual Shepard theory ... However, while my female Shepard would laugh and agree, my Male Shepard would punch you in the eye! OK, maybe not him ... Ash would for even suggesting that her Skipper swings! She already has Miranda to deal with, she doesn't want to think that Jacob might also be a threat.

Unless it's an unromancable one-of-Ashley's-sisters, I think my hopes for ME3 just got dampened again :<
