Pretty much that. Ashley's grown alot since ME1 and I expect her to show that, not be the same girl she was as a Gunnery Chief.

I want to know just what her story was from ME2 opening+Shepard's death, to her current state of being. She alluded to suicidal intention, but I would like to know just what happened. I'd also like to see a cut to Shepard's funeral/wake if I could.

Thanks to Vertigo for posting this in the twitter thread, but I think it should be mentioned in here, too:

Ashley and Kaid[a]n
especially, we didn’t see much of them in ME2, and we really wanted to
give the sense that they had grown and their character had preceded
forward. We wanted that to be apparent when you see them. When you
first meet Ashley in ME1, she’s kind of a grunt. She has the short hair
and is in the trenches as a soldier. But now she’s advanced, her rank is
higher now and she’s got people reporting to her now and we she should
have a slightly more sophisticated look to convey that visually without
even having to say anything.

I approve, though that doesn't mean I don't love the grunt in her, quite the contrary. Oh, I am really excited to see how she has changed, but I think I have made that clear enough in the past.

Actually, my Shepard felt in love with her because she's a tough woman and a grunt. She's basically a comrade, a best friend and his lover at the same time. Three incredible strong connections, as long as you stay loyal. That leads to an interesting idea about Horizon - two of the three connections got destroyed there!

It's nice to see Ash changing from the grunt to a more feminine officer - but it wasn't really necessary in my eyes. But yeah, women tend to change their styles frequently while men keep their appearance over years. Check all those male majors, generals and such - they usually still have their buzzcut ...

With my Shepard, his impression went in stages. Cliffnotes below:

- Saved her ass and she's kinda cute.
- Oh - I saved her ass and then she repaid the debt all in the same hour.
- Huh, she feels guilty, understandable but curiousity's human nature, right?
- She's religous? and cultured. I'm intrigued.
- Religous, sassy, poetry and music fan...
- Oh she's Admiral Williams granddaughter... huh. Anyway, back to the conversation.

First I thought my type of woman is a slightly pale redhaired girl with beautiful green eyes and freckless. They have something for sure.
And then BW came with ME & Ashley. She fits even better my image of a "perfect woman" when it comes to looks, but also character. While it's possible to find a woman with such looks it seems to be impossible to find one that comes with same character AND looks *g*

*in the CIC*

Ashley: Good morning, Skip.
Shepard: 'morning Ash.
Ashley: Had a bad sleep again, hmm?
Shepard: Kinda ... nightmares and such.
Ashley: Like to hear them.
Shepard: It's nothing. Just the usual ... losing the war ... losing my friends ... losing you. For five months now, almost every single night I can see our end, our deaths.
Ashley: Skip, you need some real sleep. No nightmares.
Shepard: Any ideas?
Ashley: Sure. But first - take this. Will help you to keep your lids open.
Shepard: Coffee?
Ashley: Extra strong. My mom used to drink it like that - it's black, it's tough and it can bring back the dead ...
Shepard: Very funny.
Ashley: I'm sorry ...
Shepard: No, it's okay.
Ashley: Okay, I have an idea. I'd like to deal with your nightmares.
Shepard: Is that you, Kelly, in an Ash costume?
Ashley: "Haha". No. I just have an idea. Do you want to hear it?
Shepard: Sure.
Ashley: Fine. You're a Spectre, I am one. We're no longer bound to the Alliance protocol ... okay so far?
Shepard: Go on, Ash.
Ashley: There's no need for us to have separated cabins. You can spend the nights in mine - or I can live in yours ...
Shepard: Ash, we had this talk before. It could jeopardize the mission if we ... deepen our relationship any further.
Ashley: And bad dreams don't jeopardize the mission? You barely can stand, not to speak of fighting.
Shepard: It's okay, Ashley. I can fight, and I'll have to.
Ashley: Not in this condition.
Shepard: You're not Dr. Chakwas.
Ashley: No, I'm not, but I'm your lover. And I don't want you getting killed because you fall asleep in the middle of a fight.
Shepard: Could take stuff to stay awake.
Ashley: Nope ... you need sleep, no drugs. And I'd like to help you.
Shepard: *sigh*
Ashley: I love you, you know that?
Shepard: ... love you too ...
Ashley: Good - just keep that in mind. I wouldn't bother you if I weren't afraid of your condition.
Shepard: Guess you're right.
Ashley: Okay. Just get some rest. I'll stay here. We won't arrive at Palaven within the next two days - time enough to get you back in fighting condition.
Shepard: That's an order?
Ashley: A plea.

Dunno. However ... I have something for ya:

Click me hard!

Check out my posting - that's quite down on this page. The thread is about "changing a particular scene in ME / ME2" and I had to write down my ideas about "Horizon". Maybe you can use it for a dialogue? ;)

Whatever ... I'm put of ideas right now ...

I want to elaborate on what I said this morning, when I was in a hurrry:

When I say "I approve"  mean the general notion to convey visually that she has moved up the ranks and has a different job than before and has people reporting to her now.
But I could think of many ways they could have done it differently and better, imo, but it's their game and their decision and I am not gonna cry about it, I like the design well enough and I think it's far from ruining her character like some people like to claim.
To be honest, when I saw the picture from the GameInformer (?) article

Image IPB

I was a little concerned, but when she appeared on the screen at the E3 presentation my worries where suddenly gone

Image IPB

She just looks amazing in this one.

I don't care for a more feminine look myself, but there is plenty of evidence that contrary to what some people insist on, Ashley does care about looks - she compliments her sister's figure, when you talk about the self-defense training, she compliments Liara, when you talk about her age; you don't make such comments, unless you notice these things and you don't notice these things, if you don't care!
So I can see her wanting to be a little more feminine, now that she is no longer the simple soldier, who has to work her ass off and still gets all the crappy assignments. In the romance scene she says, she spent her whole life fighting to get what she wants and she had to bury a lot of things, to get it done. I think she didn't allow her herself to be more than that simple soldier, but now that she has achieved something beyond her wildest dreams, becoming an officer and apparenty even a spectre, these things she had to bury are starting to surface.

Haha. I know the feeling, I had a similar "crisis of faith" because IRL my "type", if I have such a thing is pale and freckled and then ME came along and I found myself mostly curious about Ashley and Gianna Parasini and I eventually started turning my head after people with a little darker skin IRL, too.

Ashley: *shots thieving prisoner in the leg and puts him infront of Shepard*
Shepard: So this is all the money you stole from the K-Banks. You return it to Ophelia Kaine and she'll pretend this never happened.
Prisoner: *hobbles to his feet.* Like that would make a difference. If I ever see that little w**** again. I'll ravage her, kill her, and then I'll gonna come after you.
Shepard: ... Darn. *Kicks him in the stomach, accidentally off a cliff.* Oh shi-!
Ashley: *scolding* John!
Shepard: To coin a phrase: Whoops!
Ashley: Now what are we gonna do?
Shepard: Could always give the money back to Philli, myself.
Ashley: I thought you hated that side of your dad's side of the family.
Shepard: No - unlike everyone else on that side, Ophelia actually has morals. Shes the one we like. Even if she spent most of her life in a nuthouse.
Ashley: Hang on, if you could have just handed it over to her, then why bother with the prisoner?
Shepard: Um... *scratches cheek in thought.* Accidental fun?
Ashley: You sadistic bastard.
Shepard: Being fair he did kind of threaten to rape and kill a member of my family. You'd do the same if you were in my shoes, right?
Ashley: Point, but still. A little sadistic for my tastes, John.
Shepard: ... You have to admit it was just a little funny.
Ashley: Alright, yes. The 'Oh Sh!t!' look on your face was something priceless.
Shepard: Hah. Knew it.

Poor dude ;)

@ elektrego

I like the new look of Ashley. What I tried to say was something like this: Ash was a beauty in ME - a woman I wouldn't dare to ask for a date because she's that beautiful. Now she comes with new looks and she's even more unreachable for a normal dude *g*
Shepard is no "normal dude" and Ashley will kick every guy in the face who's trying a cheap pick-up line on her. Spectre training comes in handy ;)

"The Ashley effect" - that's the effect you experience when you find out that your old "dream of a woman" is nothing compared against Ashley. Didn't had a similar effect with Miranda or any other female character ingame (but Gianna has something ... dunno what, but she's also interesting).

Found it while reading through the entire thread. That's an amazing picture ...

Ashley: If you don't come back, I'll follow you through hell. If you die, I'll go and kick the fiend in his sorry face. And then I'll carry you out, get your ass back to the living ... so ... don't dare to die, John Shepard.

Ashley hung from the side of the shuttlecraft, watching the Reapers crumple en masse.
"Ma'am?" The pilot said over his radio.
"Any news on Shepard, yet?" She asked, her voice sounded hollow in her ears. She prayed silently to herself.
"No ma'am. There are so many pings on the bio-sensor, it's hard to tell with this radiation just who is wh-."
"Wait!" Vega announced, looking out. A large building had been partially destroyed, and sprawled on top had been the all to familiar figure of Commander John Shepard. "Set down over there!"
"John!" Ash called out, panicked. The shuttle moved over and the Commander jolted slightly, moving to sit up. A scowl came over his bloodied expression.
"What the hell! Can't a guy sleep around here?"
"Wouldn't you rather sleep in a bed, sir?" Vega smarted off with a wise-ass smirk.
"I thought you were dead, John." Ashley scolded, feeling a mixture of relief and anger.
"I'm a tough bastard to kill." Shepard rose to his feet, grabbing his gun off the ground and casually boarding the shuttle then setting himself down across the row of passenger chairs. "I'm going back to sleep, so if you'll kindly excuse me."
"You're a piece of work, John." Ash moved over, "Head up please." John lifted his head up and Ash sat down, letting him rest his head on her lap.
"All due respect sir - you really -" Vega was about to join in the chastising when the sound of snoring filled the compartment. "Goddamn he is a piece of work."

From Vertigo_1's twitter thread:

“AdrenalineTwit: why the change to long hair for Ashley?”

JM:
I want to tack on to that, what kind of interaction does the writing
team have with the designers. I’m sure when you guys are writing you
might have something in mind for how a certain character looks or how
someone carries themselves so what is the relationship between you and
the art team to get a cohesive look?

MW: We work, especially
major characters such as followers of villains, we work with Casey the
Executive Producer and Derek Watts and whoever the character artist is.
What we usually do is supply them with a character’s backstory and
history – things that will help give them inspiration. For instance,
when we were writing Kasumi we knew that she was going to be Asian so
that was part of her profile. We don’t always give that much detail on
the character but a lot of times it is a back and forth saying things
like, ‘I pictured Zaeed a little older and with more scars.’ They’ll
work with us on that. If it’s a major major character like say The
Illusive Man, the vision will come from someone like Casey himself. He’s
got a specific vision for it and it’s up to him and the artists to sort
that out. Then I’ll write for that persona that they’re creating. It’s a
fun relationship with the artists because there is a bit of a back and
forth. With the minor characters it’s often up to the level designers
because they have a face morph system with the ability to create an
unlimited number of heads so we’ll say, ‘Yeah this guy is middle aged,
he looks like he’s been through a lot’ and they can give us something
that looks unique and also fits the bill.

Ashley and Kaiden
especially, we didn’t see much of them in ME2, and we really wanted to
give the sense that they had grown and their character had preceded
forward. We wanted that to be apparent when you see them. When you
first meet Ashley in ME1, she’s kind of a grunt. She has the short hair

have a slightly more sophisticated look to convey that visually without
even having to say anything.

Yeah, I skimmed over it an underlined parts I felt were significant for discussion, one of which was about Ashleys hair in ME3 (or the explanation of why).

Bah I had a great idea a few days ago, but for some reason didn't bother to put it out there and now, ofcourse, I can't remember. Image IPB How about a quote?

@Reed; Soppy and cheesy dialogue is one of my favorite things to write. Image IPB I'll get back to it after Chap 5 of my fanfic is done.

And that's some interesting information, Vertigo.

Edit: I was browsing some pics for a bit of inspiration for a good title. How about this line from, I believe, one of your own pics AD: The Reapers want to harvest us? They can harvest my boot out of their asses.
Not a real quote, but it sounds very Ashley to me.

Also DA ... too lazy to find exact link.

Anyhow, the picture shows how I feel about Ashley. Yeah, she's just a fictional character, but she is authentic. A woman like her could exist right now in this very moment on this planet. Maybe she's a police officer or a soldier, she also could be a firefighter - who knows? Ash exists.

I love strong women - I love them because they know they can achieve everything without using a cheap way to get to a high position or something. Ashley stands for such women. And that makes her an extremely interesting and sexy character.

I bet, if I had to sacrifice her in ME3, I'll cry. And that's an odd statement for a then 30 years old dude (will turn 30 just a couple of days before ME3 release).

getting back at if I meet someone like Ash irl. I don't come across girs like her often, but if I see someone with the same kind of looks, they do peek my interest more then before.I don't think she's the kind of girl that I easily approach. I like that she's strong, but I think it could also make her a difficult person to deal with for me. She has strong viewpoints to go along with her character, so do I have some strong viewpoints on some things (Not that I'm intolerant or anything), that could lead to some tension under the skin. On the other hand, Ashley is as much a hard as nails soldier, as a sappy poetry reader. That adeptability I admire.

I don't think I'd cry if I had to sacrifice her, watery eyes though, yes. Chris Letoile has done an amazing job at creating a life like character with Ashley. That's why I like thinking about what would happen if she, or someone like her  was in my real life, it'd be an interesting situation, especially since I don't come across people like her very often,iIf I would, I'd be prepared though. Image IPB

agreed. Hell I find it weird to get into my canon malesheps shoes....and he's a Self insert! I feel it's easier to write from Kallen's perspective in her romance with ashley/Miranda than Adam Shepard and his romances with those same ladies.

Plus femslash is hot.

I have three older brothers, so I'm fairly well versed in how males think. I just take the micky out of Shepard because - well, embarrassed+whipped shepard is so darn cute. The one I've portrayed in my dialogues is a mix of Malcolm Reynolds and my second brother's personalities :P
