And I confess, AD....I often keep keep Ash in the light or medium armor just for the extra curve huggage. *slaps own wrist...then giggles*

Yes, I know some people really want a wider variety of homosexual options in the game and that the amount of times it's brought up in these forums makes it impossible to ignore but if I may offer a counterpoint: it would make no sense whatsoever for the character of Ashley Williams to suddenly become a lesbian.
This isn't about "abandoning the straight male gamer" as was brought up on these forums during the Dragon Age 2 fiasco, and it's not about any kind of political or religious standpoint. My concern here is literary integrity. Ash gave absolutely no indication that she was interested in women in the first game and indeed a femshep could not pursue a romance with her to any degree. To suddenly reverse that and say "k, she likes chicks now, have fun" would be a rather blatant bit of pandering to a select group of fans while abandoning the established traits of their characters. Bioware's writing is really top-notch for the most part and to have them alter what I believe to be one of the best characters they've ever created for the sake of shipping (in the TVTropes sense of the word) would be disappointing.
Again, my intentions are not political or aggressive in any way, I'm just trying to point out that what the players ask for is not always the best course of action. We're just the fans, BioWare are the writers and artists and when they create an established character then we shouldn't try to change them just for the sake of fanservice. Character continuity is important.
(Ahem).
Now that that's done with, I shall contribute to the real purpose of this thread: Ash freaking rocks, and my anticipation for having her back in ME3 cannot be understated.

From what I've read, I'd say there's more to it than the s/s supporters just wanting to 'include' her into the option(s).
It's been said, that both her & Kaidan were originally intended to be bi.
Therefore, it would seem likely to me that they are just hoping to get back content that was denied them (due to time constraints, etc.) since the first game.
Besides, it goes to show that Ash & Kaidan have a fanbase that stretches beyond the boundaries of just one sexual orientation.
Just a thought.
(I'm really no expert on the subject)

Yeah, and to a degree, I get that. But this isn't restoring content in the vein of "and now we get a few more weapons in a DLC pack" kinda thing. We're talking about major changes to a character. It's like if George Lucas said that Han Solo was initially supposed to be gay, but they didn't have time to include that in A New Hope. So then when Return of the Jedi rolls around he attempts to restore that idea with no background and just has him start making moves on Wedge Antilles. It's jarring, and it really messes with the continuity.
I think my real issue here is that they're trying to give players too *much* choice. By all means, let us attempt to influence the way events play out as much as we can, but when you start changing character traits to make players happy then that irks me. Characters are *characters*: as in established personalities independent of the player. In an RPG you should be able to make your own decisions as to how you play the game. But I don't think those choices should be able to alter firmly established characters; that makes them playthings who just go along with whatever the heck the player asks of them. And Ash (and everybody else in Mass Effect) is too great of a character to be a plaything.

Also I never really grew to know Kaiden, but I am grateful he gave his life for Ashley and the rest of us. He will always be remembered. I have many, many etc playthroughs. Kaiden has never made it past Virmire... I do not even feel slightly guilty about this either.!.

I think I see where your concerns lie, but, keep the following in mind:
1.) BioWare has stated that any potential for romances will be player initiated. So, unless you start the romance, there shouldn't be any indicators of a change in a character, from the previous game(s).
2.) They have also said that there will be a more in-depth friendship path with the characters, so you won't have to romance them just to get more dialogue options. (i.e. calibrations
This is my opinion of the situation - it doesn't really bother me, all they're trying to do is give others an opportunity to play how they want, just like they've already given us.
As long as BioWare stays true to their word, I don't see what can be an issue with it.
As long as we keep playing the game the same way we've been playing it, since the last two, we shouldn't even notice any change.
And believe me, I don't want to see any character's potential suffer from it, including Ash, but I have faith in the Mass Effect team to get it right.
(I won't bring up the much-heated DA2 subject - because A.) I'm sure they're well aware of it. B.) that was an entirely different dev team, & C.) given the amount of backlash it received, I doubt they would want to have the same thing happen to the finale)
P.S.
As a 'die hard' Star Wars fan, I'd say Lucas did alter Han Solo, with the "who shot first" debacle.

Awesome AresXX7, I figured wiki would be the best place, but does Ashley have a homeworld? I have not fully read through this, but is it mentioned? I assume she is from Earth. Kind of sad I do not know.

You're welcome.
Here's another link I just came across, this one has additional info - including her place of birth.
Not sure how concrete it is though.

I hear you on all counts, I'm just concerned that we'll end up with another Anders. And by "concerned" I really mean "paranoid" because Ash is possibly my favorite character in any game ever. She's written in such a real and uncompromising way that I just don't want to see that changed for the purposes of fanservice. But whatever the case may be, (and I'm going to misquote Humphrey Bogart here) "We'll always have Ilos".
And I concede your point about Solo, though doing so forces me to acknowledge that particular bit of editing and will likely drive me into a deep depression for weeks.

I was a witness in this shooting - I was 11-years-old with popcorn & soda in a movie theater in southern California .. Greedo did not fire his weapon. Han killed him without him ever firing his weapon .... You can only imagine my surprise when many years later all of a sudden ... he fires? What?

Tell me about it, according to Lucas, he thought it made Han look too ruthless, or something. (go figure)
And, as an apology for going OT:
here's something I threw together earlier today.
