You wanna know what Shepard is fighting for? For you, Admiral Hackett? For the Council? For the Alliance? For Cerberus? For the Galaxy? For God knows whoever ... I don't care. If the trial is going to send Shepard to jail, I'll bust him out. He's fighting for his crew, for everyone, because he cares for them. That makes him strong. That makes him to what he is.

I haven't done a dialogue in a while, so here goes nothing...

*Shepard is sitting in his bare cell, hunched over and bleeding.  He has been in the same position, refusing to speak, for hours.  He is still breathing heavily, trying to recover oxygen he lost when he was attacked and beaten by a group of guards. *

*Footsteps in the hallway*

Shepard: "Who's there?"

*Ashley and Anderson approach the cell*

Anderson:  "Well, I'm glad to see the Alliance judicial system has been treating you well.  How have you been?"

Shepard:  "Better.  Forgive me if I don't salute sir... and Lieutenant, nice to see you.  What do you want?"

Anderson:  "You're not throwing in the towel are you?  At least that's the word around here, people have been doubting your resolve.."

Shepard:  *laughs* "That desicion was made for me, actually.  I doubt there will be much of anything left of my name after they're done with me.  It'll be just like the McCarthy trials of the 1950's, and the treaty of Versailles before that.  When people get stupid, they need someone to blame.  Most of everyone doesn't care who it is so long as it happens."

Anderson:  "I don't care about your name, I just want you on our side when this circus is over.  I want you fighting for the Alliance again."

Shepard:  "Lord knows I want to, sir.  But for what it's worth, I'm all done.  I'm tired out, and i'm only one man.  We beat Sovereign the first time, and we could maybe take three or four of them out if we got the drop on them, but that'll be about it before they tear us apart."

Anderson:  "You're giving up.  I never thought I would see you sink that far.  You were my best soldier, Shepard.  You know why?  Because you cared what mattered when nobody else did."

Shepard:  "If you don't have anything productive to say, I think your time is better spent someplace else, sir.  I'm all done-"

Ashley: "No, no you're not."

*Both of them look at her, surprised at her sudden interruption*

Ashley:  "You have a choice, John.  You can do the right thing and fight for what you belive in-"

Shepard:  "What's the other option?"

Ashley:  "Or I'll make you.  What else would you do, Shepard?  Would you wander the stars in the Normandy, hiding from them?  Do you want to grow into an old man by yourself, lying awake at night wondering if they'll kick down your door?

"Would you wander space into oblivion, looking for a place to start over?  I mean come on, you don't think that they won't take the time to find you do you?"

Shepard:  "Ash-"

Ashley:  "No, you stop talking and listen.  I don't want you to watch from a distance as Earth burns to a crisp, and children scream for a savior who refuses to come.  I don't want you to remember back to now, and think that you could have done something, but chose not to.  Are you ready for trial or aren't you... skipper?"

*Shepard is speachless, and Ashley tosses him his unifrom*

Oh... my... god. This is awesome!!!!  And totally plausible. 'Bounnt time Shepard got a kick up his ass. And it was from Ashley to boot. How nice

Calling him 'Skipper' at the end was a nice touch.

They don't understand her analogy where she compares humanity to the dog and the aliens to the owner, they understand it as her comparing the aliens to dogs.

I think you mean Horizon, and she has every right because Shepard is affiliated with Cerberus, a known terrorist threat. She has a brain of her own and is still an alliance soldier (and posibly a spectre at the time) so she can't come ith you even if she wanted to.

*Message reads “We are sorry that we had to remove the 11 items due to remodeling the entire cabin. We sincerely apologize and hope that you understand… sir.”
Shepard: What the hell is he talking about…what eleven items? Anyway I should take a rest got a big fight coming.
*Picks up Ashley’s picture with a big smile on his face*
Shepard: I’m glad your back, without you by my side I can’t fight this “thing” inside of me.
*Looks around the cabin and notice that something is indeed missing from the cabin and suddenly it hit him *
Shepard: By the void they didn’t. EDIIIII
EDI: Yes Commander?
Shepard: Where are they?
*Door Opens*
Ashley: Andraste’s ****** what is going on in here?
Shepard: Ash *tears flowing down* they took all of them
Ashley: Who took what?
Shepard: The alliance they took all my model ships
Ashley: *facepalm* please don’t scare me like that. They’re just toys.
Shepard: *still crying* but I spent so much time and credits getting them.
Ashley: Alright I will call Anderson or Hackett, see if they can get them back and please stop crying.
Shepard: thank you Ash *wipes tears* grins.

That's why I always have some "Ashley" in it. Like that quote.
It's something Ash could say to Hackett, ignoring his rank. Either because she's a Spectre or because she wants speaking freely.

And Kudos @ Dignam - nice to read and plausible. Didn't know some guys are holding a grudge against Shepard to beat him up, but yeah ... seems so. Shepard the beaten hero. Fits.

Just to name some of your crimes in the past four months. Any words for yourself, Commander Shepard?

Shepard: No, Sir.

Trial Officer: Are you sure?

Shepard: Yes, Sir. I did all of the named crimes to fight the Reapers. I worked for Cerberus since I was KIA and they revived me. I didn't had the option to return to the Alliance, otherwise I'd have taken it, Sir. I destroyed the Collector's Base to end the abductions of human colonies and to prevent Cerberus taking the base. The Collectors were working for the Reapers, even tried to create a new one as you can see in my report. And I had to destroy the Mass Relay of the Bahak System to stall Reaper Invasion. It's been 2 month since then. If you find me guilty, I'll accept it. I did what I had to and don't lie to you.

Trial Officer: I see. Any other appeals?

Ashley: Indeed. May I speak?

Trial Officer: Lieutenant Williams, you may speak now.

Ashley: Thank you, Sir. This trial is held over a man who did his duty. If you're going to put him to jail, fine. But in that case you should us send to jail as well, every survivor of the Normandy SR1, that includes me as well, and everyone who worked for Shepard on the Normandy SR2 and survived the attack on the Collector's Base. I'm not defending Cerberus' crimes here or the organization itself, but I'm here defending Shepard who did what he had to do to stall the Reaper Invasion. And I found evidence the Reapers will be here soon - maybe sooner than anyone can imagine yet. They ARE already in the galaxy and they are using their FTL drives to reach the next system with a Mass Relay. I'd say they'll be arriving in any Citadel Sector system within an month.
If you send Shepard to jail you might end any hope we have left to defeat the Reapers once they're here.

Trial Officer: The trial will discuss your case, Commander Shepard. The hearing is adjourned for 24 hours.

Shepard: Ash ... that wasn't necessary -

Ashley: It was, Shepard. You don't wanna end in jail? Then accept I'm bailing you out. With or without your help, I don't care. I ... we can't do this without you.

I really look forward to the trial, can't wait to see what is gonna happen. I hope the trial last more than a minute or two b4 the reapers crash the party.

Some sad stuff:

Those words were wrong. Death doesn't close all - Death also opens wounds, especially the death of her commanding officer. It had been 3 days since Ashley and the survivors of the Normandy got rescued. Joker had told her about Shepard's death. And it had been Joker who had tried to comfort her with the words: "He gave his life to save mine. He's a hero, Ashley, and a darn great friend. I'm going to miss him."
Needless to say it hadn't worked, not a bit.

Ash looked at the wall in front of her. She still could her his voice and his touch on her shoulders. She still felt what was not allowed to feel for a man like him, after all, he had been her commanding officer and fraternization was against the rules. Not that she cared anymore. Ashley wasn't even sure if she could continue her career - a frightening thought for a Williams. "A Williams has to be better than the best." - her father's words. And now she was thinking about ending her career to have time mourning about Shepards death - and betraying her family.

That is not you, Ash. You didn't mourn when your comrades got killed on New Eden. You accepted it, told you it was your fault - but Shepard came, made it easier to forgive yourself. And now? You can't think straight. Wanna quit the Alliance? Betraying everything a Williams stands for? Take a break! You have to move on, Ash! You must!

But whatever she tried, even kicking herself with a boot in her back mentally, it didn't work. For now most of her thoughts were focused on Shepard and the last hours she had shared her life with him ...

Shepard: *in elevator on his way to the cabin, he hears something he's fairly certain he's not supposed to hear from outside and enters* Ashley Madeline Williams, just what on earth are you doing?
Ashley: *Shrieks in surprise, nearly dropping his guitar* Mother of god! *she turns around to see him leaning on the doorframe with his arms folded.* Don't do that!
Shepard: I just heard an ungodly noise and thought I'd investigate the source. And I find it's my girlfriend...
Ashley: *guilt+uneasy smile* Yea... ?
Shepard: playing my guitar...
Ashley: ....uh-huh?
Shepard: Making the same sound as my 3rd grade english teacher's nails scraping down a chalkboard.

Ashley: It was going to be a present for you. And I was trying to tune it...
Shepard: It is WAY out of tune, and why for me?
Ashley: Vera was disintegrated on the Normandy. And I didn't give you your birthday present this year.
Shepard: I dunno, we blew up the Reapers, that's a good enough birthday present.
Ashley: Yeah - Galactic peace and all is brilliant, but I knew how much that guitar meant to you.
Shepard: It was a holdover from an old lover. I moved on to someone just as beautiful.
Ashley: Flatterer. Now are you gonna get over here and play with your new toy or not?
Shepard: *jumps off the frame and practically runs to her* Oh, yes-yes-yes-yes. *Takes a seat next to her and the guitar, experimentally strumming the chords, he starts to tune it.* Could use a tuning fork, but I guess by ear'll have to do.
Ashley: It's starting to sound better.
Shepard: I'll teach you how to play if you want?
Ashley: I think I'll stick to poetry for the time being.
Shepard: 'For the time being'?
Ashley: Sounds hopeful, huh?
Shepard: I'll take it. *Stumming a tune that sounds reasonable.*
Ashley: Think you can play me a song?
Shepard: Oh well. I suppose. This one's for free.
Ashley: I thought you said you didn't sing.
Shepard: There are so many layers to the Shepard, Ash. Will you ever get through them all?
Ashley: *playfully tugging at his shirt.* Don't tempt me, skipper.

By the way somehow the discussion about Ashley's habits & quirks kinda stopped yesterday. Must say I love to read more of her antics from other Ashley-lovers ... besides the fact she loves coffee hot, black, tough and with less than a spoon raw sugar *g*

Zaeed has a named assault rifle, I wonder if Ash names her guns too. Besides "boomstick" of course.
