Cute ^^
We all need our daily dose of Ashley.

'bout that story: I hate the fact I can't save Kaidan -and- Ashley. So I thought about how to make it happen you can save both. Also Liara got a bit "less prominent" - you can skip Therum. She'll be with you in ME, but only for last chapter of the game.

Virmire in my story:

- if you decide for the squadmate at the bombsite, the STG team and Kirrahe will perish
- if you decide for the squadmate with the STG team at the turrets, the STG team will survive
- if you decide for ONE of both that one you decided for will survive no matter how much time you need to reach him
- if you decide for BOTH you'll see a countdown. You need to reach both in time to save both. Tthey're critically injured, so if the time runs out, they'll die of their heavy injuries. The STG team and Kirrahe will die while protecting the squadmate at AA turrets.

So you still have to sacrifice someone - but you can save Kaidan AND Ashley if being fast and efficient. The "save both" option needs to be the most challenging one.

I've revised my opinion somewhat, away from the idea that Ashley and Kaidan are the two worst-implemented characters in Mass Effect. I now only believe it's Kaidan; Ashley's implementation is just fine. But Kaidan, if he survives, appears shoved into Ashley's story, a fact even more apparent with the spoilers, which... well, quite frankly, fit Ashley's personality, or what we saw of it in ME1, much better.

Are you kidding me? So Kaidan also being able to show more of his emotions means he's terribly implimented? If you're talking abotu what I think you're talking about I'll just say this, Alenko has served longer than Shepard so eh has a higher level of maturity and decision making. His character so far has been implimented just fine, alot better than some of the a characters you chose to put ahead of them.

I'm not saying that Kaidan's character is bad, but I am saying that I don't think it's a good thing to have two characters made to fill the exact same role, and to have the story not really change at all regardless of which one happens to be alive.

And I realize there are several other implementation issues. The dialogue of pretty much everyone in ME1 was very strangely arranged. All the female squadmates had to be rescued, for some reason. Etc.

CptData, that document is fascinating.  It's going to take me a while to absorb it all.  For now, just let me say that I take my hat off to you.  I will get back to you with more comments later.

Seriously, this!  I'm so glad someone else noticed this.  It really bothered me and is such a stereotype.  Not that I'd necessarily want, say, Wrex to be rescued, but it'd be nice if one of the female squaddies wasn't.

Okay, CptData. Two observations/comments.

Firstly, I think that Kirrahe / the STG being lost if you try to save Ashley and Kaidan is a good payoff, provided that the salarians would be a handy advantage to have alive in ME3 and, possible, saving them instead of a human would boost the image of the Alliance as being willing to endure human sacrifices for the sake of galactic unity. From a balance point of view, Ashley and Kaidan are so awesome that there does need to be some corresponding disadvantage to having them both survive. A handy thing about the way you've written it is that it's possible to kill one or both of them off for people who don't like one or either character (wrong though such people are! - okay, just kidding, I know everyone has the right to their opinion).

When it comes to the Mars or Venus tech options, does choosing the "focus on Sovereign" option (with Mars tech) give a more optimal result than just choosing to save the Council outright? Does it, for instance, mean that far more Alliance / Galactic forces survive the battle? I'm a little confused.

*peaks in*

Is it relatively safe in here? I will admit I gritted my teeth and skimmed, SKIMMED quickly SOME of the spoilers. I managed to stay pretty story unspoiled for the most part but I was gonna explode if I didn't at least scroll through.

I have to say the few words I gleamed I'm not that worried about Ash and what they're gonna do with her. Truly. I really think I can live with what I saw.

Not to mention I'm betting some things are different in the actual game anyway. Seems there was a lot of repetition of a few different scenarios in those spoilers, but maybe that's just because I actively tried to avoid a lot.

It's relatively safe. Apart from the fact that Ash's shooting shall protect us all from spoilers, Chris Priestly has clarified Bioware's spoiler policy for the forums, so people are less likely to think it's okay to post them. Come on in, Badpie!

Thank god for that. I didn't dislike what I read, but I dislike people picking over and over it again, especially since they have already pointed out that was beta material, not final product. If it pans out, it pans out, if it doesn't it doesn't.

Thank goodness it's safe. I'm going to update the Mordin thread with a similar tagline later. Maybe he'll, uh, incinerate spoilers.

This is kind of how I feel about it.  I trust that I'm gonna love the story even if it doesn't fit with my personal nitpicking desires.  I also know a lot of that stuff was beta like you said so even the things I think "well that seems heavy handed" doesn't mean all things or even most ended up that way.  And even if they do, I'm actually more intrigued than ever.

Also like I said I made sure not to glean too much from it.  I just scanned it like I was a robot.  LOL.  I'll probably just remember a bunch of details in my dream tonight and have to wake my husband up.

Me:  OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT!
Husband *jolts awake*:  WHAT?  What's wrong?
Me:  OH GOD HOLD ME!
Husband *pancking*: Are you okay?!
Me:  I.... just remembered that Garrus discovered he loves doughnuts in ME3.  THE ENTIRE GAME IS SPOILED!  *sob*
Husband: .............You're insane.

BRING IT, MARCH.

Nice. I graduate the day before ME comes out, so its like a 'grats - you're finished' thing as well. Needless to say, I won't be sleeping for a while after it comes out. Is there a mid-night launch? Or It comes out at a particular time, or what?

The day you all got Mass Effect 3 was the most special day of your lives.

But for Badpie....it was Tuesday.
