Just dropped by to ask if anyone knows anything else about Ashley's role in ME3 besides the fact she's now a Spectre? She's pretty much the only squaddie from ME1 (besides Wrex) I actually WANT to see in ME3. The rest of them...I couldn't care less.

Ashley: Jonathan Shepard.
Shepard: Yessum?
Ashley: Nothing, I'm just saying the name. It doesn't really roll off the tongue as easily as Ashley Williams.
Shepard: 'Jonathan Shepard' is a badass name!
Ashley: Nope.
Shepard: What?!
Ashley: Not at all.
Shepard: Oh come on!
Ashley: ...
Shepard: ...
Ashley: Aurora's out of material.
Shepard: When she takes stabs at her own chosen names? Yea. I'm guessing so. Hell. I read the script for friggin', um.. Gez, the new one. With the Marathon getting blown to sh!t.
Ashley: Oh yea?
Shepard: Yea. She's trying to figure out what my N7 nickname should have been?
Ashley: What are the choices?
Shepard: Uh.. 'Boss', 'Knives', 'Spike' or 'Malleus'.
Ashley: Why those?
Shepard: 'Boss', obvious. 'Knives' because, well, I like sharp dangerous objects. 'Spike' same reason. And 'Malleus', I assume she wanted because it had a similar to sound like 'Malice' - and lets face it, I can be completely ruthless if I choose to be.
Ashley: Damn. Well. I'm still calling you 'Skipper'. It's your pet name, and I'm not changing it.
Shepard: Gotta think of one for you. 'Chief' doesn't much apply anymore. And I don' want to go with 'Eel-Tee', that was Kaiden's.
Ashley: You'll think of something.

I pose a question to thee.
All of the Normandy crew are in the N7s. And for the scenario's sake, they're given code names.... what would Ashley's codename be?

Ok, let me rephrase slightly. IF the Normandy current crew were all N7s, and IF N7s had nicknames or code-names. What would Ashley's be?

I say 'N7' only because, they're the special forces, so it stands to reason that they might have code-names.

Since I gotta go home now, I will be back on tomorrow. I'll leave you with this for now.

Ashley awoke with a dull throbbing sensation ebbing from the back of her head and her shoulder. Her attempts to sit up sent a jot of pain through her body as a painful reminder that she had been shot, and that the fall did a number on her head too. Cracking her eyes open just a bit, she realised that she was in the sickbay, not the scream and explosion filled battlefield.

'They must have won.' She thought with an underlying satisfaction. 'Won and brought me back.'

As feeling came back to her limbs, and the bright light of the sickbay stopped stinging her eyes so, she managed to gauge more actually about her surroundings. The hardness of the mattress she lay on, the slight buzz of the medigel in her system and the smells of antiseptic though it was coupled with another scent she could recognise and something faintly clutching the first two fingers on her left hand. Examining herself, she noticed that over the standard issue thin blanket, was a patch of black material with a red stripe. It was John's hoodie. Her eyes then traced down to the pressure on her hand.

Shepard was there, at her side. Or more precisely, his arms were folded against the mattress with his head bowed, resting on them. He was fast asleep. A bandage wrapped around his bicep and creeped up under his shirt, Ash saw another set - or the same set - of bandages over his shoulder through the collar of his shirt. How long had he been here? The thought crossed her mind. How long has he been asleep?

Almost as a reaction to her mental questioning, Shepard's head jolted up. His eyes were sallow and baggy, dark and sleep-dreprived. "Hey." He yawned out, wiping some sleep out of his eye and stretching his back over the chair.

"Hey." Ash answered back, uncertain. "We won?"

"Yeah. Yeah, we won." Shepard answered hollowly, slouched backwards in his chair.

"Why do I detect an ugly undertone." Ashley asked, Shepard swivelled around in his chair, giving Ash a clear view of the body of Captain Pierce. "Oh god."

"Comatose." Shepard explained with a single word, his hands now folded loosely in his lap. "Not much we can do 'til we get to the Citadel and get Chakwas to look at it."

"Is there anything we can do?" Ashley asked, stubbornly trying to sit up. Shepard reluctantly helped her after a moment, taking his hoodie from her lap and draping it over her shoulders.

Shepard shrugged, setting his gaze on the unconscious form across the room. "You? Pray and get better. Me? Swear eternal vengeance against Cerberus for hurting my two precious girls, and torture every unfortunate bastard to cross my sights as petty revenge."

"Your joke's funnier when it's just a joke, John." Ashley retorted sternly.

Shepard nodded his head twice before looking over his shoulder, "I only wish I was joking."

So, in your personal head canons, who is Ashley's bestemest buddy? Or maybe her preferred LI if Shepard only wants to be her bestemest buddy (What the hell is wrong with that Shepard!? Okay, I guess lesbian Shepards have an excuse)?

Hmm, plenty of ideas / headcanon:

ME cast

Kaidan was a good, maybe even her best friend - a lot of stuff happened offscreen in ME we still can explore. Guess he was aware of the growing affection between Ash and Shepard and gave her some tips - and kept it a secret to Shepard. Ash respects Kaidan as fellow soldier and both shared long talks about their careers and even some private stuff as too. Although Kaidan knows about General Williams and his role in Shanxi battle, he thinks "Blacklisting an entire family for one man's deeds is unfair, especially if that man tried to save lives." Kaidan promised to talk to Shepard about that once Saren is taken down in case Shepard had issues with William's name.

Garrus earns respect in Ashley's eyes and is so "un-turian" to use his (and her) words. He's still stiff, but he holds no grudge against humans. Since Garrus and Shepard are friends, Ashley treat him "the friends of my friend are my friend." She starts to like him, especially after Virmire.
That friendship got a light dent because of Garrus' past as Archangel in ME2, nothing serious, but clearly visible.

Wrex was someone Ashley didn't trust at the beginning, but she has some respect for him, especially after Virmire. They're friends at the end of ME in my canon, and she hated to let him go after the job was done.
No further intel about their friendship in ME3 yet.

Tali is a quiet young woman and  a bit nerdy. Half of the stuff she sais is just mumbo-jumbo for Ashley - that doesn't mean she does not like Tali. She's more like a younger sister to Ashley and I can see where Tali's fangirling comes from: Ashley and Tali had some talks about Shepard in ME (offscreen).
They remained friends even after Shepard's death.

Liara grows from "non trustworthy because of her mother and being a competitor" to a "close friend I don't wanna miss" (Ashley). At first Ash simply didn't like Liara because of Benezia - later it turns out that Liara had a thing for Shepard which didn't help to become friends too earlier. In my canon Shepard never allowed that "catfight" happen, so there was no showdown between both women. Once Ashley found out Shepard did not return Liara's feelings, things start to go better. After Virmire they became friends, mostly because of the comfort Liara offered to Ashley to overcome Kaidan's death.
Friendship is currently damaged because Liara never told Ashley about her plans to bring Shepard back: Ashley believes Liara never told her because she wanted Shepard for herself, Liara on the other hand simply could not tell Ashley anything about Shepard because of her connections to the Shadowbroker.

Joker is another "darn good friend" of Ashley. When not talking to Shepard or Kaidan, she usually talks to Joker with a cup of hot coffee. Joker is seen as "family" by her, like a brother and so she doesn't mind his pranks or tendency to watch porn while in duty. Lets say they love each other in a way no one can imagine. Some rumor was going around Joker and Ashley could be a couple without Shepard being around, but the fact she never dated Joker after Shepard's death dismissed that rumor.

"Chakwas shouldn't be a doctor - she's too nice." Ashley usually says when talking to friends about Chakwas. Ash dislikes doctors but she likes Chakwas for being a good friend in dark times. They staid in contact even after Shepard's death.

Anderson is a superior officer and as such respected. Ashley is thankful she made it into the crew of the Normandy - it was Anderson who accepted Shepard's recommendation and gave sh!t of Ashley's blacklisted name. "A darn fine man, good officer and like Shepard, just older."

ME2 cast (if things happen in ME3 - spoiler free)

Miranda wasn't loved by Ashley at the beginning. "Hatred" describes it best, mostly because Ash saw just "Cerberus" in Miranda, but also believed she had slept with Shepard at some point - after all, they're pretty much the same type of woman: dark haired, beautiful, with a tough shell and a soft inner spot.
Once they fought together Ashley started to respect Miranda, and later it turns out to be a (slightly cool) but visible friendship.

Jacob suffered the "traitor" malus from the beginning. An ex Alliance officer working for Cerberus - looked like the usual traitor. At some point Ashley started to like Jacob: a man that wants to make a difference but picked the wrong friends. Ash even allowed grewing feelings for him to a point she flirted with Jacob secretly, but never got any further - that was in the time when she had second thoughts about Shepard and her feelings for him.
They're close friends at the end of ME3, since Jacob remembers her a bit of Kaidan.

"Mordin is a genius. A darn friggin' genius that's responsible for the new genophage". Ashley's words after two weeks of working with Mordin. She doesn't like him that much, but respects him. It helps that both can talk about Kirrahe and his way to motivate troops and they have a comradeship, but besides that, Ashley doesn't consider Mordin as a friend. However, she left no doubt she'll catch a bullet for him if needed.

Grunt. Ashley never got warm with Grunt - too violent, too difficult to control. While she's respecting Wrex as a fellow soldier and his wisdom as well, Ashley believes Grunt is a ticking bomb that only follows Shepard as long as there are "plenty of big targets left". She always feels uneasy in presence of Grunt.

Thane is one of the shady characters Ashley likes, mostly because of his deep understanding of religion. They both have a tendency for long talks and she's surprised that he's so calm and in peace with himself despite being an assassin. Ashley likes Thane for sure and even talks to him about her growing feelings for Jacob (and later Shepard). It is Thane who tells her to go after Shepard instead of Jacob, because he can see that she only can become "truly happy and in peace with herself with Shepard."

Jack never made it on Ashley's "friend list". She's one of the few persons Ashley simply can't get in touch with. That doesn't mean Ash hates Jack, it's more like that she can't get in touch with someone so spoiled and hurt like Jack. Ashley tried to talk to her but after one violent outburst of raw biotic energy (resulting in a broken arm), she gave up understanding Jack: "She seems to be fine with what she is and I won't change her."

Samara gave Ashley a hard time. They never grew closer than "I accept her, but that's it", mostly because of Samara's secretive nature. They rarely talk and if they do, it's usually about the mission. A justicar simply doesn't have much of a private life and is not interested in others and besides that, they don't share much traits. Ashley respects Samara for following that strict code, but also objects all the merciless killing for the code.

Morinth was dead before Ashley could meet her and Shepard never talked about Samara's daughter.

EDI is not trusted by Ashley at the beginning - "AIs are a big mistake, especially if they can do whatever they want with your ship". Basically Ashley-EDI is like Joker-EDI before the crew's abduction.

Kasumi is the only woman of the new Normandy Ashley actively likes and sees as her best (female) friend. While Thane represents the male POV when talking about romance stuff, Kasumi acts as the female POV in their talks. Since both lost loved ones they have a deeper understanding of each other. Ashley even tried to help Kasumi to get a date with Jacob, but it failed since Jacob didn't have any feelings for Kasumi.

"Zaeed - isn't he a guy who kills for money?" Ashley doesn't like Zaeed and also doesn't respect him. She simply dislikes mercenaries like him and being one of the founders of the "Blue Suns" doesn't make him more likeable. Sometimes they talk with each other, but usually those talks are short and professional. Together with Grunt, Zaeed is one of the few characters Ashley would put a bullet through the head if she senses even a hint of betrayal.

This is pretty much how I have it too! Except I think she would actually get along with Zaeed.

Mercs aren't really all criminals who fight just for money, most if not all (excluding the Eclipse) are just ex-military who couldn't adjust to Civillian life, some of my dads old friends joined merc groups when they left the military as they just couldn't get used to being on one spot, they needed to continue to see the world. My dad even considered it. Bioware really messed up Mercs I thought, they made the word Merc mean criminals. Most Mercs specialise in bodyguarding and are actually not looking to kill. Added to that most Merc companys only recruit people with atleast a few years military expierence, so Shepard and his squad wouldn't find Mercs a walk in the park.

I believe Ash would enjoy some of Zaeeds war stories very much, but I cant see her spending much time with him beyond that.

Dunno if Zaeed is an ex-military or ex-cop or so. He's badass and MAYBE Ashley can get along with him, but most likely there will be always some kind of mistrust between them.
Mercenaries in ME seem to be more kind of a (large) gang that does some good stuff (like security work) but also have a tendency to do crimes. Most notabley Eclipse. Blood Pack is the casual bunch of guns for hire, Blue Suns seem to be some kind of "private security enterprise" - with lots of dark connections. Out of those three the Blue Suns are the most positive guys to have around, which doesn't mean much in ME - homicide doesn't seem to be that big deal anymore.

It's a violent galaxy. And Ashley has a hard time accepting this - even as a pragmatist.

Still open request: give me a character and I'll do a dialogue with Ashley

Yeah, I can see her really enjoy his war stories but I'm sure she will keep a close eye on him, Zaeed's a very violent person so I can see her being very cautious around him.

Indeed, this is why I think Bioware have gave fans the wrong message when it comes to Mercs, most Mercs in reality are not criminals and just cant get out of their military state of mind. Imagine working in the military for twenty years and then leaving and needing to go from seeing exotic places and working on the battlefield to sitting the 9 to 5 in a office in the same place, day in day out? Merc groups seem more logical to them, they continue to travel, use their ''skills'' they've gained over the years, and for even more pay. I hope Bioware doesn't mss up the Merc name anymore than they have come ME3, in reality most are gunuinely nice people who are just troubled when it comes to civi street.

I'm writing one with Ashley and Garrus at the moment but I don't know a lot about Jacob (Never used him that much in ME2 always used Tali and Garrus), with Jacob being former alliance and his issues with Cerberus there could be some common ground between them, just a thought.

Okay, I'll take it as a pick, Funkcase *g*

Ashley aaaaaaaaaaand ... Zaeed. From A to Z ...

Zaeed: Surprising. Williams visiting me in my lovely quarter.
Ashley: Zaeed, I'm not here for small talk. Need help with ... this.
Zaeed: A Widow M98. Wonderful gun - if you can pull the trigger without breaking your arm.
Ashley: It's Shepard's gun. It got broken in last battle, Jacob isn't around and I can't fix it.
Zaeed: You see that gun? My favorite ... but she's broken. If I could fix weapons, my old love would spit fire again.
Ashley: I could see for "her". So you have no idea how to fix the Widow?
Zaeed: No. Anything else?
Ashley: Yeah. I wonder what kind of past you have.
Zaeed: Mercenary, founder of Blue Suns, lost half my face because my ex partner tried to kill me. Long, bloody past. Any details?
Ashley: Before you found the Suns ... just that.
Zaeed: All I can say ... Shanxi. Was a marine, a bloody greenhorn these days. Think that was the day when I lost faith in the Alliance. If things need to get done, pick a weapon and blow someone's head off. Those Alliance officials always whine before they pick their rifles. Had enough.
Ashley: The Alliance isn't that bad.
Zaeed: So? My entire unit got killed because of one turian sniper. One. While my general surrendered, those guys died. Williams. That was his name. Coward. We had a chance ... but that fine gentleman surrendered. I resigned at the spot when I heard what happened. They tried to put me in jail but made it out before they had a chance. That's how I became a mercenary. Short variant.
Ashley: You knew General Williams?
Zaeed: Yeah. Okay in the bar, but screwed things up when they became a bit dirty.
Ashley: You should know that General is my grandfather.
Zaeed: And I don't care. We all have our past. I've got mine, you have yours. I don't care if you're a Williams, as long as you don't screw things up. Especially if my ass is in the line of fire.
Ashley: I'll keep that in mind.
Zaeed: Good to hear. Now, check my gun if you want, ... I can tell you another story ...
Ashley: Nah, thanks, I'm good. Just let me see if I can fix your gun.

Aaaand yes ... Ashley is far less "aggressive" when talking to Zaeed. Mostly because she knows it would end with the death of one ...

Heres the Garrus/Ashley dialouge I promised but I did include some refreences to Shepard as I see Garrus as Shepards best freind in Mass effect.

SSV Normandy SR2 - En Route to Citadel from Earth
Deck 2 Armory
10.30hrs

*Ashley's sorting out her weapons after escaping Earth*

Garrus: Williams I heard you where in here, I wondered if you need a hand?
Ashley: Huh....oh hello Garrus, Sorry I didn't hear you come in
Garrus: You never did hear anyone when you where cleaning your weapons
Ashley: It does help me to relax and think things over.
Garrus: Indeed, a lots happened since we saw each other on Horizon
Ashley: yep and all of it bad.
Garrus: Not all of it, It's great to have you back on the Normandy, I've missed our target practice sessions
Ashley: From what I heard you switched from paper targets to Criminals and Mercs "Archangel"
Garrus: Oh no don't tell me you heard about that name as well
Ashley: I was worried when I heard that you'd left C-Sec, They kept that Hothead of yours in check, stoped you from getting in to too much trouble.
Garrus: I guess they did, After getting surrounded by 3 major Merc bands hell bent on killing me I can't really argue with you there.
Ashley: Yes but you where able to hold out for a long time, your sniper riffle skills have defiantly gotten better over the years. Is it true you took out a gunship with one shot?
Garrus: I only managed to disable it with one shot, Placed an armor piercing round right through the port thruster inspection hatch & hit the coolant line. The thrusters overheated and sent a power surge though the gunships power systems. Best shot I've ever made.
Ashley: I'll have to remember that one
Garrus: Just don't make the same mistake I did, When you've disabled it finish it off before they can repair it, other wise you'll end up with a face like this and a few extra bits and pieces inside you.
Ashley: Good point, Although I think the scar gives you a bit of character.
Garrus: Well as I told Shepard "It's probably for the best, The women where always hitting on him to get to me" now he stands a chance
Ashley: so how many offers has he had since he got back?
Garrus: Oh a few here and there, not that he ever gave them a second thought or a first one for that matter.
Ashley: Why?
Garrus: You know why.....and I've already said to much. Now would you like a hand sorting this armory out or what.
Ashley: Don't try and change the subject Archangel, I want to know
Garrus: You'll just have to talk to Shepard, Now I think we should move the sniper riffles over here where's there more space to work on them, what do you think?
Ashley: Fine, and Garrus
Garrus: Yes
Ashley: Sorry I bit your head off, Its good to be back.

P.S CptData love the Ashley/Zaeed dialouge you can just see them two going through "Mass Accelerator Weapons Monthly" togther  picking out what new toys to buy. Heres some more Ashley:

I bet you'll like it Reed. Maybe not the *spoiler part* but after that...the dialogs between Shepard and Ash are <3 and funny (Same old Ash.). Trust me I know. Image IPB (Well, from what I've read.)

You've just heard the worst part. It can play out a lot of different ways. I wouldn't worry about it.
