A way to approach it that would address Aurora's concerns might be to remove the pictures of the weapons. Then add an "Also Inside" tagline next to Ash, with info about the weapons articles as bullet points underneath.

I'm thinking the bullet list might look good just to the right of the grey tower in the background behind Ash. Maybe even overlapping with the tower just slightly.

There has to be one singlar type that GRABS the viewers attention, and the others have to compliment it. I'm sorry, but as a graphic designer in me is going NUTS!

Have you SEEN magazines before? The main subject always has tons of other little stories scattered all over the front page. I think it looks great.

She's become burried behind them and while the red, white and black colour skim work, it washes out the colours of Ashley and the images behind her. Basically, its just too hard to see.


I'm sorry, there is simply too much there. Maybe if some of the 'Feature' articles were moved to the inside page, or so that'd help the balance. But there is just too much. And the two main types used unfortunately clash.

Please don't say I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm training to design things like this for a living.

I'm sorry. I don't wish to spark an argument. But she's just being squished under all that detail and colour is washing her out as well.

It's not just my opinion, but the opinion of Other graphic designers I've shown this to. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to trust me. If I walked past this in a store, I'd have no idea what to focus on first. All the activity is drawing my eye all over the place. There is simply too much trying to grab attention at once.

That being said, this is still a valiant attempt at a magazine cover. I'm proud of CptData for trying something different with an Ash fanart. Points for originality

I'm sorry about that, Badpie. I wasn't trying to sound like a b!tch, although looking back over my comments, I probably did. Forgive me. Unintentional. But as a designer, these things really grind my gears.

That being said. Again, Valiant attempt, I love the concept. It's a different spin of fan art and I overall like it, despite my inner designer having a whinge.

I used to have a tight reign on swearing, now I've got pretty loose lips. I need to get my words back under control. More often than not lately, I've found myself shoving my own foot in my mouth.

Anyway. Dialogues.

Ashley: What the hell is the matter with you.
Shepard: Put a credit in the swear-jar.
Ashley: What?
Shepard: You heard me.
Ashley: I ask again, what the hell is wrong with you?
Shepard: I'm cracking down on the swearing, and that's two credits in the swear jar for you.
Ashley: Oh come on, you swear every second word! Why should I?
Shepard: Cause I said so. Credits, Swear-jar, now.
Ashley: No.
Shepard: Ashley.
Ashley: I'm not gonna repeat myself, skipper.
Shepard: *Holds out jar. Ash is still silent. He shakes is a little.* Credits in the jar, Ash.
Ashley: God, you're annoying sometimes.
Shepard: I know.
Ashley: You can't crack down on all the swearing you know.
Shepard: Watch me, just watch me.
Joker: *over PA* Commander! You better get down here!
Shepard: What is it, Joker?
Joker: UH - easier to show you.
Ashley: That doesn't sound good.
Shepard: Nope.
*both go down to the CIC. The Elevator door opens and a group of Marines arm rifles at the couple. It's a coup. Half the crew have turned on them.*
Shepard: OH What the FU-!

Here's one more dialogue before I go for the night. About the whole 'Shepard isn't Shepard' thing we were discussing a hundred pages or so back.

TIM: Do you think you've won here, Miss Williams?
Ashley: You're on your knees with my gun pointed to your head. I believe so yes.
TIM: Do you really think that killing me will solve anything? Everything I have done was for the sake of humanity.
Ashley: Experimenting on soliders. Killing Alliance Admirals. Biotic death camps? Pierce's Unit on Akuze, and lets not forget what you did to Shepard. Defiling his corpse like that, turning him into your slave. Destroying his life? Cutting him off from everyone that had his back?
TIM: A small sacrifice for the sake of our race. What does it matter?
Ashley: You heartless son of a b!tch. What gave you the write to play god?
TIM: I make the necessary sacrifices, the tough decisions that politicians and the Alliance are too unwilling to make. I'm surprised you care for the Commander that much.
Ashley: That's none of your concern.
TIM: Does it concern you that he may not be the Commander Shepard you knew? The man who died in Alchera's atmosphere?
Ashley: What are you talking about?
TIM: You, better than anyone, know that its impossible to reawaken the dead.
Ashley: You're saying that the man I'm following now is a fake? *thinks back, remembering his concerned about being the 'Real' Shepard or not*
TIM: Bred in this facility, created for the sole purpose of taking out the Collectors. Unfortunately, my plan didn't quite unfold how I desired it to.
Ashley: You wanted them do die. You wanted everyone on that ship, and the AI destroyed.
TIM: Truly unfortunate that the clone inherited the stubborn will to survive from his progenitor.
Ashley: *Looking over to Shepard who had just entered the room, there's no telling how much he had heard of the conversation. Judging from the expression on his face, all of it if not most. Looks back at TIM.* I suppose how 'unfortunate' it is depends on your perspective. You can spout that crap about 'betterment of humanity' and 'making the tough calls' from here to Judgement Day. But don't try to feed it to me and expect me to sympathise. I'm no fan of aliens, but I hate you.
TIM: Are you going to continue your se- *Bang! His brains splatter across the floor. Ashley pulls her gun away, Shepard had taken the shot.*
Ashley: Why did you do that?!
Shepard: Because I was sick of hearing his crap.
Ashley: But now we don't know if he was lying about you being fake or not.
Shepard: I know, but it doesn't matter. Even if the memories are just an imprint from a dead man, they're real to me. I'm satisfied with that.
Ashley: Lets get out of here. This place is starting to make me gag.
Shepard: Couldn't of said it better myself...

- I'm just an ordinary dude with no education on that subject at all. I used some of current fav magazines in Germany and they all look like thesame. American magazines look like that as well - cluttered with tons of information, the title girl is usually burried under advertisements, headlines and whatnot. If you ask me, you can kick the current generation of designers in their groin, maybe then they'll do better designs


However - it's a technical magazine (about weapons and such) and looks technically. It's no useless so called "lifestyle mag" ...


I still have the "design level image" so I can shift stuff around, maybe I'll do it today evening.

Kaidan: I think he was more of a brother to Ashley with the way they ribbed each other all the time. "That your ... professional... opinion LT?" and "That's b/c you don't understand women" etc

Garrus: I highly doubt that becoming archangel would make Ashley respect Garrus less. Honestly, with Ash's attitude, I'd think it would actually score points with her for trying to do good in a den of evil. That and all the kills and taking on a gunship alone would be something she respected. I think they became great friends by the end of ME1.

Wrex: I think she's pretty in the middle about him, but like you said definitely respects him as a warrior.

Jacob: I think they'd become pretty good friends b/c of their backgrounds of being in the alliance and saving the galaxy... they'd have plenty to talk about.

Mordin: I definitely think they would become friends. After hearing about him taking on those mercs and setting them out as a warning... I think she'd be all, "Damn, you Salarians aren't as fragile as you look... first the team on virmire and now a scientist!" ... that would led to talking about the STG and things he's done. 

Grunt: Same as yours

Thane: I don't really know how they would get along...

Jack: I don't think Ash would like her at all to be hones. To aggressive toward everyone and a tendency to go off for no reason. I think Ash would keep her distance from "The crazy lady below decks"

Samara: Same as yours

Kasumi: I don't really know what to think about this one, but I do think that Ash would be talking with Tali about all the romance stuff as... she's more familiar with her and the whole little sister vibe. That's the kind of things sisters talk about. lol

Zaeed: Completely disagree here, they would get along great and I think Ash would love listening to all his war stories and crazy missions and how he barely makes it out. Honestly I think she would see where he is coming from with his vendetta against Vido b/c of her blacklisting and wanting to revenge her family's name. I like to think they would have competitions on the battlefield to who could kill more baddies like that dwarf and legolas in LotRs movies. haha

Only differences:

Kaidan: best friend / like a brother works imo on the same level. I trust my sister and so she does, despite the hardships we had and have sometimes. Lets say Kaidan and Ashley simply love to tease each other.

Garrus: Depends on how he's explaining his story. Ashley had showed more than one time that she's loyal to what she stands for - the Alliance. She accepts if Garrus don't wanna rot in C-Sec one day, but going rogue, randomly killing people, even if they're criminals? It's on the same level like what Samara does and Ashley doesn't like "merciless killing" as I pointed out. Garrus is doing the same - without a code, just with his sense for "right and wrong" ... which doesn't work the right way since the world isn't "black and white" like Shepard said.
Ashley might accept why Garrus left C-Sec, but she does not accept the "kill random criminals" part.

Miranda: Must say, she's a headscratcher. They -can- go along, but only on a professional level and only because they don't fill the same role or need to be in the same room for a longer time. Ashley is the soldier, Miranda is the supporter. Ashley holds the rifle, Miranda shows the target. That's their professional relationship.
Besides that, I can't see them sitting in a bar. Ashley won't ever tell Miranda any secrets - they might discuss about Shepard at some point, but besides that, not much.
That's why I say they can have a very "cool" friendship that's based more on respect than anything else. It's also that kind of friendship that lasts least as soon as things go wrong.

Mordin: Need to rethink about him and Ashley.

Kasumi: Tali is more a little sister to Ash, Kasumi could be the "best friend". While it works for Kaidan (best friend & brother), it doesn't seem so for Kasumi imo. But that's just what I think.

Zaeed: Also a headscratcher. In my headcanon they won't go along that nicely - Ashley has no thing for Mercenaries. That MIGHT change at some point, but not now. Lets say she simply doesn't trust Zaeed. Remember Wrex? She didn't trust him at first, Wrex needed to earn her trust and even then she was willing to put a bullet through his head once he was about to kill Shepard. If Zaeed tries the same (or Grunt), Ashley will shoot him - and it doesn't make a difference if she's fascinated by his stories or not.
The thing is: Zaeed HAS a tendency to do his own thing. He's a ticking bomb - as soon as things get personal, Zaeed doesn't follow any orders as shown in his LM. If he has to face Vido one more time he'll make sure Vido won't make it out - even if that means he has to shoot at Shepard.
The only way out of that mess is that Zaeed becomes less impulsive and far more trustworthy. Then Ash and he can get along. If not, Zaeed will have to face his own "Horizon" with Ashley - or Virmire.
