Gotta say, Shepard's got an awesome new uniform. And notice that his rank-pin (in beta screenshots) is still in the collar despite being discharged? And I rather like that variation of Ash's outfit... though, i'm surprised that Shepard managed to keep his eyes off the peephole there... Image IPB

Sorry, I've been wanting to write a response dialogue for this since I read it.

Ashley: *Uneasy, sitting by Shepard's bed. He's hooked up to life-support and a machine to help monitor his neuro-activity. She sighs, holding his hand in both of hers.*
Chakwas: Ashley? *comes into the room.* May I speak to you for a moment?
Ashley: Yes, Doctor?
Chakwas: About Shepard. He's -
Ashley: He'll pull through. John's always pulled through.
Chakwas: With every hour, his brain patterns are getting more eratic and unstable. There's no telling just how much longer he'll last. The greybox has to be removed, even if it causes brain dea-
Ashley: No! If removing it kills  him then we might as well put a bullet in his head now and be done with it! John would rather die first than live as an empty husk! Mordin said he'll be ready with a solution in a day! We can keep him alive until then, can't we?
Chakwas: Ashley, I understand and respect you're position but this came from Admirals Kaine.
Ashley: So his own father wants to let him die rather than look for a way to treat him?
Chakwas: I'm sorry Ashley, but legally his next of kin has the authority to make that decision on his behalf.
Ashley: You're kidding! The only people that John counts as close family are me and Roxanna! Kaine doesn't want anything to do with him, but he can make choices like that? How in hell is that fair?
Chakwas: I'm sorry Ashley. But I believe his father simply doesn't want him to suffer.
Ashley: *scoff* My ass. Knowing Kaine's reputation, he probably just doesn't want the content of the greybox known.
Chakwas: I'm sorry there's nothing I can do. I just recieved the message from him through a burst only a few moments ago.
Ashley: What message, Doctor?
Chakwas: ... *nods understandingly* What message, indeed.
Mordin: *Enters sickbay, with a device in tow.* External greybox completed. Intial testing shows promise. But still highly risky.
Ashley: What kind of risks?
Mordin: Impossible to say. Could result in worse injury. Could lose yourself in greybox data archives. Many risks.
Chakwas: Wait a moment, please Professor. How will this device work?
Mordin: Establishes link between Shepard's internal greybox and external greybox, allows user's consciousness to explore his memories. Won't know what Commander Williams will find until device is activated.
Ashley: Fine. Hook me up. *Releases Shepard's hand and moves to other medical bed.*
Chakwas: This is far too risky, Commander. I object to this.
Ashley: Objection noted. But, John saved my life time and again. I won't get lost. I'll come back and drag him with me, whether he wants to or not.
Mordin: Must act fast. Window of opportunity shrinking. Doubtful that Shepard's brain can last much longer. Must act quickly to save him.
Ashley:
Lets get this over with.
Chakwas: I'll be monitoring your vitals closely. Anything changes, and I'm going to revive you right then and there. *prepares a sedative while Mordin prepares external greybox.*
Mordin: Again, final warning. There is a possibility that Shepard may die during procedure. If that happens,*sharp inhale* you will die too.
Ashley:
 Then, we won't.

THAT, Aurora, is full win. Actually, that entire greybox-story fits to a full fanfic ... not just dialogue. I love it. And I'd like to read part II of your version ^^

Slow thread today

Anyway..saw this tweet from Casey in the twitter thread, we basically already figured this out but still:

Casey Hudson
@CaseyDHudson Casey Hudson
@NzesiNyoka Those are all clothing concepts. Ashley has full armor and helmet similar to Shepard's, which I don't think have been shown yet.

Similar to Shepard's armour sounds really good though and ofcourse it's nice to have an actal helmet confirmed by Casey aswell.

yeah, I'd imagine her armor would be like Shepard's since they're both Spectres and Spectre's get the best gear.

From what Casey wrote, I understood it as meaning that Ashley will have proper armor and a helmet, just like Shepard does, not that her armor will be the same as Shep's.

Personally, I'd expect her to wear something similar to what Kaidan had in the screenshots, or what Vassir wore in LotSB.

This is what I would think and like to see her wearing. :D

Though I do hope Shepard him/herself get a set of Spectre armor like that as well.

Well the slight issue with that is that Kaidan and Ashey always get grouped together because of Virmire. I'd like to see her have her own armor instead of a feminized version of Kaidans armor.

True. But then again, Ashley's "diplomatic attire" doesn't look like a feminized variant of something Kaidan would use. I'm sure both will have their very own styles.

The VS (Kaidan and Ashley) are put into one word because they fill the same role in ME3. As long as it's not character specific, BW will talk about VS or A/K. As soon as it's character specific I'm sure we'll see lines with "Ashley will ..." or "Kaidan does ..."

The biggest issue is the romantic arc. In worst case the romantic arc of Kaidan and Ashley are the same with same lines, same situations, same options, same scenes. That's imo the worst outcome for us as fans.
Then we have full six LI characters of ME2 who won't have a bigger role in ME3 (except Team Dextro), but all of them will come with full developed romances. Why should BW decide to reduce Kaidan's and Ashley's romance to one just with different faces?

Yeah Ther's a ton of great stuff in the spoilers if you're a Dextro fan, and they do seem to be gettign favored by the devs since ME2. Which isn't surprising how vocal and slightly obnoxious their fans can be at times.

Is it a bad thing that Shepard has some of the same people on her squad for the whole series?

Nope.
I like "Team Dextro", I consider them as "familiar faces" together with Chakwas and Joker. Is great to have them around, although their significance on the main story plot is very little compared to other characters. Things seem to change in ME3, but I won't give away any details.

Aaaaaand I'm okay for "plot armored VS" in ME2. Mostly because the story arc of VS will be solved in ME3 - the one or the other way.

When that's all they ever do yes. It'd be one thing if they were alliance and jumped ship to be with shepard due to their ties in the alliace with them, but Shepard has no bearing over the Turian or quarian governments. especially when all the other squadmates from the first game have a life outside of Commander shepard. It makes the two that don't seem clingy and that they need the commander to function.

Garrus' life outside of Shepard was destroyed and Tali can be exiled, so there are reasons for them to be locked out of other affairs. Tali might not be exiled, of course, but it'd be rather odd for the persuasion option to lock Tali out of your party and you only being able to keep her by exiling her.

You can discuss spoilers freely in the appropiate thread in the Kaidan and Ashley ME3 Group. Many people in the character threads do not wish to be spoiled.

Garrus can make his own life over again, he does have the option to go back to c-sec where he should have stayed after all the talks my shepards have with him about rules, hell even one of my Shepard's says try to be a sPectre, you make your own rules and the council isn't up in your business about it as long as you succeed, but he doesn't. While yes Tali can be exiled, if she isn't she still has the Migrant fleet. I never get her exiled, but she can be mad at you if you reveal what rael'Zorah did on the alerai (the right thing to do in the big picture) and she actually throws the life she has away to be with Shepard after haestrom which was less horrible than the VS's mission on Horizon that had civilians get caputred, but they didn't quit the alliance because of how disastrous it was unlike Garrus and Tali who quit c-Sec and leave the migrant fleet with daddy's permission respectively. Shepard is not all that that you have to just have to drop everything for them. Wrex didn't, Liara didn't, and the VS didn't and they have amazing roles now as leader of the Krogan, the shadow Broker, and council Spectre's and Alliance Commanders or Majors. what's garrus got? what's tali got?

They're saving the galaxy, the most important thing we can do right now. Everyone has a role to play in it; apparently they feel it can be best fulfilled by being at Shepard's side.

Actually I'd find that a rather interesting consequence.

Anyway my problem isn't that some characters will get more screen time then others. Infact there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it's great for the fans of those characters and it would probably be odd if they tried to give every character the exact same amount of screen time, just to be fair.
My only worry is that the characters with less screen time will somehow get a less important/interesting role because of it and that they don't get the attention and story part that'd satisfy.

Ideally the developer keeps every character in mind and treats them all as equals, then assesses who logically gets what part and tries to give them all an interesting fitting role in the story. If however they give some characters an important role because they have a big fanfollowing and use less popular characters for unimportant roles, or the sole purpose to create some drama, but no real progress of plot, then it seems unfair.
I'm not saying Bioware will do this, but sometimes I get the feeling they wildo, so I'm cautious of that.

I brought this one earlier and I wonder am I the only one who thinks the background perfectly reflects Ashley's personality - which is "pragmatic" - means neither idealistic (paragon) nor renegade.
