Uh - Ash vs Kelly over Shepard's attention. Granted its down to the individual Shepard and player, but it would probably be a funny thing to see. I don't usually go for cat-fights (two blokes beating the crap out of each other is more my thing) but I wouldn't mind seeing them duke it out.

I honestly don't think Kelly would bother fighting unless Shepard made it clear that Kelly was favored.

I can understand the frustration to an extent, but blaming fanbases isn't the way to go.

After all, would we be complaining that BioWare 'pandered' to us if we get what we wish for with Ashley? Of course not. I'm happy that a potential fan base may be happy with what they get.

No different from Tali and Garrus fans. And some Ashley and Kaidan fans are fans of Garrus and Tali too.

If certain characters have better development while others are OOC, then that's the fault of the developer, is it not?

To a point. when one fan base yells for soething and gets it all the time, it looks like favoritism. You begin to resent the avorite child when your shouts go unanswered becasue there must be something about the favorite child that lets them have what they want.

I think I heard / read enough "indirect" spoilers to know Ash will be Ash. At least the guys telling me she'll be good old Ash like we know her from ME. No details - I don't wanna know more than I already know since Ash is the one I want to explore in ME3. More than new worlds

Means to me: poetry-loving-pragmatic-tough-and-extremely-loveable Ashley that keeps Shepard grounded and puts some sense in his head if he becomes too idealistic.

Honestly even considering the popularity of Garrus and Tali, it makes no sense to make them perma-squadmates since they can both be killed off. The only characters with undisputed plot-armor is Liara and Ash/Kaidan. I get the feeling that all the characters will only be available for select missions (but in the case of some characters like Liara, VS, and Vega, they'll be around for more.)

There are some minor alignment issues and perhaps a you may want to use a different font than Ariel. Also, Ashley isn't an N7. She was never drafted into the training. but:

"Ashley's not N7, I'm sure sees not. I thinks she's B4. I'll have to read this article to find out what they are talking about" it gets people to talk about it case in point on this thread.

I'll publish the photo with the columns aligned to both sides but as you will see there are some large gaps due to some big words I've used. The font I've used for the main text isn't Arial it is Slider (the font used in mass effect) but I'm still experimenting.

Ashley: So what happened?
Shepard: When we found the gunny in the bar, completely by accident, We thought we were screwed! Turns out he didn't even recognise us, he was so blind drunk that he fell on the floor and out cold. So we try to help him or revive him, or at least Rox and I tried and Jinx has this brilliant idea.
Ashley: Oh god, I don't think I'm going to like this next part.
Shepard: Maybe maybe not. The next morning, he's lip ferret is gone and he's absolutely furious, deadset outraged. He calls everyone together in the unit, immediately singles Jinx out and the bastard has the thing glued to his face!
Ashley: You're kidding me? Haha!
Shepard: Staring the old man down with his own mustache!
Ashley: That's horrible skipper! I wouldn't have thought you the type to do something like that. So what happened afterwards?
Shepard: One thing you'll learn about me, Ash? I am a devious bastard. Back to the story, Jinx, Rox and I called to the gunny's office with some Admiral, Fitz-Gibbon I think his name was. And being the dutiful, honest kids we were, we told the Fitz about how a couple of kids, barely even marines, were able to sneak out and back without anyone noticing.
Gunny got pissed and the Admiral tossed us in lockdown for about two months. Next thing we know, he ships us off to Arcturus for the N7 training.
Ashley: Oh my god, Shepard. That's horrible! You are a horrible man. Hehaha!
Shepard: Ah, I know. Hah. Hell of a fun way to get into the N7s though.

This article is part of a larger Alliance Mag, right? I can understand the N7 being like a mast head, but it doesn't apply to Ash specficially, so I gotta ask, why is it there?

I understand you want to grab people's attention.

But at the same time, having the N7 on there is, in my opinion (from somewhat of a design standpoint) a bit deceptive. Unless you're going for a tabloid feel for this magazine?

Please don't get me wrong, it still looks great.

It will make a bit more sense when I've finished the rest of the article, This is just the first page of text, there's a lot to come, I just wanted to get a layout that looks good then I can sort out the text and finer details. It taking me some time as I'm having to create a lot of the graphics from scratch such as the Alliance Marine Titan base logo (which still needs a bit of refinement):



But I might even change the N7 to B4 I've got a few ideas for a logo for the B4 soldiers. I'll create some variations and post them. Get the threads views on which one we could use (if any).

The N7 is ok. I have no major grudges or disputes with it if this were a feature in an Alliance mag, but if its related to Ashley, then my opinion is that you should have the N7 accenting an image of Shepard and Ashley together with the the logo hovering behind Shepard mainly. That is, of course if you wish to have a paparazzi kind of thing within the magazine with it.

Unless Ash took some N7 'private lessons' from Shepard (Ah yes - 'lessons'.) or if she recieved the training during the timeskip or between Horizon and earth, the 'N7' is irrelavant to her.

I really think Ashley is more deontological than Shepard.

Must say I had to read the definition of deontological ethic first - and I didn't fully get it. So don't shoot me if I'm talking nonsense ...

Ashley acts, at least that's my PoV, pragmatic. I don't wanna explain why Ash would kill the Rachni Queen or sacrifice to Council once more - has been done a gazillion times and - depending on the person who did this - ended in the result that either Ashley was tainted as "shallow racist" or - that's my interpretation - a pragmatist.

It also depends on your Shepard is Ashley keeps him grounded or puts some sense in his mind when s/he goes down the renegade path. I don't have any renegade playthroughs, but I do have several paragon Shepards with some renegade decisions done, Ashley keeps my Shepards from becoming to idealistic and therefore, to loose connection to reality.

The main issue I have with ME is, that I am not allowed to play it like a pragmatist - I am one. It's the game mechanics - you have to go down one path of both extremes or you'll find yourself in situations you can't solve.

It does somewhat suck that you can't pick 'true neutral' in ME, unfortunately, there's really no middle ground for some decisions, EG Rachni ...
You can't choose to hand the queen over to the council and let them debate it. Sure it'd probably end in its death, but at the same time it means you don't have to pull the trigger yourself.
Or in 2, with Cerberus. You either hate them, and reinforce that point of view throughout your time working with them, or you can agree with their views whole-heartedly, you can't say 'I agree with this, but only to a point'.
