I love how Ashley has actual flaws to her. Like sometimes love interest will either be a mary sue or have "cutesy" flaws to them, like "aw she's so naive it's cute." But no, Ashley has actual flaws to her and that's what makes her the most human (no pun intended) LI for male sheps. It also gives us the opportunity to see her character evolve and develop further.

Ashley vs a soldier Shepard of either Gender.

For my soldier Shep and Ash, I think he'd win, but only if he was on his best game.  No messing around.  He has more thorough training because of the N7 stuff.  Special Forces have special moves in my opinion and he's had more of an opportunity to use them in real situations.  Doesn't mean it would be easy.  I don't think he would underestimate her, but I think he would still be surprised.  I have a feeling Ash fights dirty.  

And by dirty I don't mean ball shots.  I don't feel like any woman worth her salt would go for the balls unless she really meant to decomission a guy.

Also, welcome back, Mdoggy.  And I couldn't have said it better.

Diamond in the rough - I like that expression. Sums up nicely how I felt about Ashley in the first game and it feels good to see that her voive-over actress agrees with me on that. Time to shine, Ashley!

Anyhow, I am now ready to put my claws away and curl up in Kimberly Brooks' lap, purring contently, while she fondles my ear and tells me more about those passionate love scenes with Jennifer Hale, drifting off into a dream, which may include some form of hand-to-hand combat, probably something like good old greco-roman.
No shoes, no balls.

Ashley: Sounds like an easy day. Not that I don't appreciate it ... after two weeks under constant fire in that foxhole on Palaven ...
Shepard: God yes. I don't know what was more awful - the Reapers, the Husks or the fact a certain Lieutenant Commander could not get any morning coffee ...
Ashley: Haha - I wasn't that bad.
Shepard: You were worse.
Ashley: I can give up coffee for a while.
Shepard: Prove it.

Is Shep allowed to use biotics? I'm not sure Jakarta would win without them, even though she's got N7 training and outweighs Ash a bit; she's a bit too used to cheating.

Headcanons are fun to read, 'specially if they're NOT identical to your own.

I don't think my Ash snores. I do. I really snore, but my fiancee can take it. However, I couldn't stand the idea she's snoring, therefore Ash doesn't snore as well.

However, my Ashley is a total coffee addict (as you can read in that little dialogue above on this page). She can't function without her morning coffee and I think she'll have three or five large cups a day. She also likes coffee the "tough" way: no milk, almost no sugar and tough. Guess she has some addiction to caffeine.
Never thought of how Ashley prefers to sleep. My dirty male mind tells me she sleeps naked, but my writer mind tells me she only shares "naked nights" with her lover. Ash usually wears some night gown, satin clothing anyone?

Ash is a "nighthawk". That means she loves to stay up long in the night and also enjoys sleeping till 10 or 11 o'clock (local time) in the morning. However, her duty does not allow this so she has to get up at 6:00. So she suffered some kind jet-lag while on colonies. It got better on board of the Normandy, still not perfect, but better. By the way: that's the reason why Ash got addicted to caffeine - she needs her shot to wake up, she needs another shot to STAY awake in the morning.

So. That's my headcanon of Ash. ^^

"Captain Williams. I hadn't expected to see you here." Major Jon-Mal Shepard said by way of greeting, approaching his wife in easy strides, kissing her firmly on the lips.
"Where the hell else would I be?" She shot back playfully, handing over the small shopping bag filled with snacks that she had been carrying.
"What's this for?" He asked, looking through the contents while Ash led him down the hallway.
"Who do you think?" She shot back with a sly smirk, turning the corner. Shepard followed.
"Daddy!" Two young voices called out. Shepard smirked and rolled his eyes.
"Ah - The mini Shepards." Ash gave him a look. "Sorry, mini-Williams'."
"Better." She kissed her husband's cheek before their two twin children, a boy and girl, tackled their father in a hug.

Actually, it's intended as "pay back" because normally Shepard IS whipped in my headcanon too. However, he's in a good mood that morning and loves to tease Ash a bit. I mean, sometimes he simply wants to prove he's still the MANLY Shepard

And I like the idea he can give up sex for a while - and Ashley can't. Don't ask why. I know the answer, but God forbid, don't ask!

I know what you mean almost all of the posts happen when I'm in bed. This morning I had nearly 2 full pages to read through when I woke up.....Coffee I need Coffee.

Pre-final battle.

"You did a good job keeping a brave face." Ashley commented into the darkly lit cabin. Shepard sat on his bed, eyes down cast and arms elbows on his legs.
" 'We can win'? Don't make me laugh." He scolded himself, casting his eyes aside. Ashley's heels sounded across the ground as she sat dozen in the opposite side of the bed. "We both know that this will be a one way ticket."
Ashley merely sighed in response, a soft smile on her lips. Leaning her back against his, tilting her head back to view the stars outside his skylight. "Where's my cheerful optimist?" She muttered.
"He's gone walkabouts." Shepard's joke rang hollow. "Nothing but a bitter pessimist here."
"God Jonathan-Mal. I know you're tired. But you can't die tomorrow." Ashley said, a chuckle in her tone. "You made me a promise to me, remember?"
Shepard let out a sigh. "Everything I've done til now was for the sake of having a future without being exterminated by giant homicidal monsters. I don't even know what'll happen to me or everyone tomorrow. The 'verse can't just go back to how it was before."
Ashley had stood up, moved around the bed and knelt in front of Shepard, wrapping her arms around his head and held him close. He leaned in, grateful for the physical contact. "It doesn't matter, as long as we're around to worry about it."
"Thank you, Ashley. I love you."
Ashley stroked his head softly, "I love you too."

Funny, even the most heroic hero mankind knows needs someone who keeps him (or her) grounded. Seems Ashley does a good job here ... after all, she's the reason why Shep could take down Saren (literally - she's part of that squad taking him out) and that he could do the Suicide Mission (gazing at her picture before the SM helped a lot).

Also interesting fact: Ash is one of the few characters in the series that doesn't need to get fixed. Which is something I enjoy ... Shepard needs to get fixed, not Ashley ^^

If you're talking about "squadmates need Shepard fixing them", then you're right: Kaidan does well too and so does sort-of Jacob. In some way it also applies on Kasumi.

Zaeed has this revenge stuff. Miranda has daddy-issues, Jack comes with a spoiled past. And Joker is no squadmate - and he doesn't need fixing either.
