*After 1 1/2 hours of poetry from around the galaxy the recital is halfway through*
Speaker: Our next poem comes from a request from one of the audiance here tonight. A human poem by Alfred Tennyson from the earth year 1830 entitled Madeline
Ashley: *whispers* John is this you're doing
Shepard: shush....I've never heard this one before
"Thou art not steep'd in golden languors,No tranced summer calm is thine,
Ever varying Madeline. Thro' light and shadow thou dost range,
Sudden glances, sweet and strange,Delicious spites and darling angers,
And airy forms of flitting change."Shepard: Sounds like someone I know *smiles at Ashley*
"Smiling, frowning, evermore,Thou art perfect in love-lore.
Revealings deep and clear are thine. Of wealthy smiles: but who may know
Whether smile or frown be fleeter? Whether smile or frown be sweeter,
Who may know? Frowns perfect-sweet along the brow Light-glooming over eyes divine,
Like little clouds sun-fringed, are thine, Ever varying Madeline. Thy smile and frown are not aloof
From one another, Each to each is dearest brother; Hues of the silken sheeny woof
Momently shot into each other. All the mystery is thine; Smiling, frowning, evermore,
Thou art perfect in love-lore, Ever varying Madeline."Shepard: Well you do smile and frown a lot Ashley
Ashley: I do not frown a lot
"A subtle, sudden flame, By veering passion fann'd, About thee breaks and dances
When I would kiss thy hand, The flush of anger'd shame. O'erflows thy calmer glances,
And o'er black brows drops down, A sudden curved frown: But when I turn away,
Thou, willing me to stay, Wooest not, nor vainly wranglest; But, looking fixedly the while,
All my bounding heart entanglest In a golden-netted smile; Then in madness and in bliss,
If my lips should dare to kiss Thy taper fingers amorously, Again thou blushest angerly;
And o'er black brows drops down A sudden-curved frown."Shepard: Arrrr Kissing my second favourite thing
Ashley: Do you really think you've done enough today to deserve a kiss
Shepard: Lets see I took you to lunch, then spent nearly four hours shopping for dresses and shoes
Ashley: yes but we didn't walk in the park
Shepard: No because I thought you would enjoy this more
Ashley: I do love poetry
Shepard: I know but that's not why I got us a private box just for the two of us
Ashley: oh what did you have in mind
Shepard: Did you ever sit at the back of a movie theatre with a boy
Ashley: oh I think I can remember how this goes
*2 hours later the recital is finished and the audience is leaving*
Shepard: I'll have to get a recording of this recital so we can listen to it again
Ashley: Why so you can hear the parts you made us miss.
Shepard: You weren't complaining in fact you could say it was poetry in motion
Ashley: You are incorrigible John, but the nights not over yet
