Ashley's best quote anyone?
Plenty, fictional and non fictional (canon).
Basically almost everything she says has "Williams-awesomeness".
Oh, and all of them begin or end with "Skipper". Or "Oh captain, my captain ..."
Each character is unique and has different interests. By making each character a 'potential' LI, regardless of their gender, it means that Shepard has direct control over someone's sexual preferences. That cheapens the universe and the people in it.CptData wrote...

I suppose it's a bit more realistic to have Ash and Kaiden straight. Not every girl or guy is going to want to hook up with Shepard if they don't share those same feelings. To make all of the characters bisexual is, in my opinion, an easy way to cheapen them.
Hmm, dunno. I think you don't fully understand the idea of "parallel universe" and "fluent characters".
Shepard is such a "fluent" character. The base character is pretty much what you do at the beginning while character customization, everything else is up to you. Shepard changes with every decision and becomes more and more the character you like. That also applies on love interests.
A Shepard that loves Ashley will like her poems and loves talking about her family. Another Shepard does things Liara likes. Shepard is shy around Tali and straight forward when dealing with Miranda ... you get it? Shepard is -exactly- like his or her love interests expect him to be.
Now I can say same applies a bit on other characters, but I wouldn't call them "fluent". They stay pretty much similar, but of course change their preferences with every new universe (Shepard) created. If you want a gay Shepard, Kaidan should be homosexual as well. If your Shepard is lesbian, Ashley will welcome her in her arms. But Kaidan and Ashley are only homosexuals in that respective universe - they're straight in another one.
At least that's my opinion. I respect your's, but can't fully understand yours - each Shepard, each playthrough and therefore each universe is different, and so are the characters.
That's why I support homosexual relationships in ME. Because they are one option out of a million.
Last Ash for me today:
So Ash & KaidAn now make up for "every girl or guy"? Also, gimme a call when realism is actually taken into account when it comes to Ash, Kaidan and every other LI's availability. None cares about looks, you can have the most ugly Shep in the universe and they will sitll be totally into you. That is NOT realistic. They also don't care about what you do. You can beat women for no reason (the reporter) and Ash will still want to date you. That's NOT realistic. So really, realism argument is null when we're talking about the availability of Love Interests.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...

The characters must have their own interests, and if a homosexual relationship is not among them, then it makes sense for that character to deny Shepard's advances. Perhaps they could handle it better. Actually have Ash or Kaiden deny Shepard vocally instead of just cutting the dialogue completely just because you play a certain gender.

You never ask he characters if they want a homosexual romance. You never even get to bring up the fact that you're homosexual unless you romance Liara as she's the only F/F romance that's Paramour achievemnt worthy. No one's asking you how Kelly's doing. You can't say , as MaleShep , "You're cute Alenko" or "Alenko, I'm intersted in you" or the same for Ashley as femshep. It never get put on the table. at all.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...

yeah but as a Male, hitting a woman unprovoked is socially unacceptable. That shows abusive tendencies, if he punches a woman he doesn't like how's he gonna treat the woman he adores? a curb stomp for burning a romantic dinner?Aurora313 wrote...
Not to mention she was trying to use the dead to smear Shepard. Just as a regular person, I wanted to punch her in the face for it. You do not disrespect the dead. Its the mark of a shallow and disgusting person.

Don't be ridiculous. Do you really expect BioWare to write code that determines whether or not a charcter is ugly?IsaacShep wrote...

I don't mind that player agency can affect the desires of an NPC. The best D&D games I've had were where the DM altered the game's plot to better fit his living, breathing PCs. Amongst the worst were once that ignroed player agency, and insisted on a set outcome regardless of the player's desire.
To wit; I don't mind most of the romances in DA2, I do dislike Ander's rather forceful approach, male or female, because it rides roughshod over player agency, and punishes the player for refusing his advance.
Realistic? Yes.
Annoying in a game? Yes there too.

You create your own Shepard. The universe has already been established.Aurora313 wrote...

Not really. You can establish a universe where your Shepard is an at least second generatio Alliace soldier or a universe wher your shepard only knows loss of mindoir and akuze. Where shepard and cerberus are linked or they aren't. Wehre the coucnil, ashley, Kaidan, or Wrex are dead. The universe has it's guidlines, but i's not established in concrete.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...

Of course there's a reason: She makes snide + disingenuous comments/assertions. Those are good a reasons as any [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]
