Ashley: Ah crap.
Shepard: Yea. That about sums it up.
Ashley: Trapped between a plasma-sealed door and a corridor blocked by debris
.
Shepard: Just like old times?
Ashley: Last time it was a mine with a nuke inside.
Shepard: Mercifully - that's been left out of this reinteration
.
Ashley: Thank god for that. *chuckles after a minute* You know people will talk.
Shepard: What? That I'm head over heels for you? That's not exactly a secret, Ash.
Ashley: Yes, I know. But you look so cute and embarrassed whenever the subject's brought up.
Shepard: Yeah. Well how about we try to shift some of this crap out of the way, huh?
Ashley: Case and point.
Shepard: *gives her a look before squatting by the debris. He attempts to reach for it but something seems off and he pulls away. Trying to determine the best course of action.*
Ashley: What's the matter?
Shepard: That's superheated. I can feel it from here.
Ashley: Crap.
Shepard: Yep.
Ashley: *looks at the door.* And this thing's sealed shut from a plasma torch.
Shepard: *Hand on ear as he moves away from the rubble.* Shepard to Normandy? Rats, nothing but static.
Ashley: *sigh* Our locator beacons wouldn't work either I guess.
Shepard: They might, but I'm not holding out hope. Best we can do is wait it out. They have out last known co-ordinates at least, and the war can't be won without us, so, *Slides down the wall and sits with his elbows on his knees* Nothing for it but to sit and wait.
Ashley: You're not as optimistic as you used to be.
Shepard: A lot's changed in the last few years.
Ashley: Bright side? *sits down with her ankles crossed against the wall opposite.* This gives us a chance to sort things out. To sort
us out.
Shepard: You really think there's going to be an 'us' after the war?
Ashley: You don't want to-?
Shepard: No, no, no. I do. I really want there to be, but I'm looking at the battlefield and the odds aren't exactly stacked in our favour.
Ashley: Look at the now. We're stuck here until Vega and Garrus find us. Meanwhile, the galaxy is still going to hell. Unless you've miraculously learned to phase through solid matter? We can't do anything. *lower tone, little uncertain.* And I really would like to sort things out... while I have the guts to talk about it.
Shepard: The courage that counts is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next.
Ashley: I swear that you missed your calling as a shrink.
Shepard: No, not really. Remember, I use to talk one every fortnight or so way before I joined the N7.
Ashley: I guess that's true. I remember those scars from back on the SR1. From the...?
Shepard: Yeah. But I traded them in for the newer models. Honestly, I like the glowing ones better.
Ashley: That right?
Shepard: Heh - Yeah, I'm a living night-light. And I don't see anyone else with a glowy face. I think they add to my character.
Ashley: *shakes head with a smirk* You're a child.
Shepard: Guilty as charged.
Ashley: And avoiding the subject.
Shepard: Alright. You want to talk? Then let's talk.
To you, Data.
