The spoilers have been somewhat discussed. I for one am keeping an open mind, but we are not going to go into it in this thread. This is a spoiler free zone, even if most of us kind of know what was leaked. :) If you please.

As for Ash's fighting style?

Dirty. She's totally the type to use all kinds of MMA moves and she goes for the eyes or whatever is weakest. When she's losing (in a real fight, not a sparring match) she pulls out all the stops and hits where it counts.

I don't know, her personality always made me think of "strike hard and fast to get them out of the way, use cheap shots as needed".

That's what I mean.  Ash would totally be the gal to throw sand in someone's eyes or gauge out an eyeball with a thumbnail.  She's grip and twist testicles, headbutt and kick a person in the jaw when they were down.

Like I said though, not so much in sparring.  But a real fight?  I feel like a Krogan with both eyes would be f*cking wary of her if he knew how she operated.  And he'd guard at least two of his balls.

True, though I mostly used Ash as ranged support with the snipper rifle. This was mainly due to the fact that I was only just learning how to properly manage my companions in the field and it was easier for me to do the close range fighting. Ah Doom.... you trained me well.

Ooh see I feel like she's assault rifle mostly.  Which gets her some distance, but if she does get in close?  Dirrrty.

I moved to have her in close range with some of my later characters. I can see it, there was one time where, in game, she stepped out from behind a rock and opened up at her opponent's back at point blank

I kind of hope that the class related melee moves make their way to the squadmates. Ash doing a close quartered omni-blade stab makes me weak in the knees.

Hmmm, kinda yes and no. She's not hitting a guy in the balls, at least not as long if it's a fair fight and she holds no personal grudges against that particular dude.
But yeah, can see her placing critical blows to take out her foe: she'll aim for joints if needed. And I bet she knows several deadly hand-to-hand techniques.

Martial Arts? I bet she has at least one black belt or is about to get one. Can see her honing her skills quite often and learning new ways of taking out someone with bare hands is on her top list.

Shepard: Heard you finally got your black belt.
Ashley: It's my second. And know what? I think I'm going for a third one. It's fun.
Shepard: You could get a black belt in the ancient art of Ai no geijutsui* ...
Ashley: Well ... never heard of that before.
Shepard: I'm a Gurandomasutā in that art.
Ashley: Grandmaster. Suuuure ...
Shepard: You can believe me. And I'm sure you have the potential to become another one.
Ashley: Seriously, Skip. I never heard of that one. What's it about?
Shepard: It's a form of close combat, gaining dominance over the other one. It can evolve in a series of very fluent movements if you know what you're doing, but you also can use rapid, hard moves to surprise your opposite.
Ashley: Sounds interesting. Wanna show me some moves?
Shepard:I could show you, but not now. What about 9:00pm in my cabin?
Ashley: Sure, why not? I love to learn something from you ...
Shepard: Maybe this Gurandomasutā can learn something from you too. It's an art of learning and teaching at the same time.
Ashley: Skip, that's cute. I love you *smiles*
Shepard: Love you too, Ash. *kisses Ash*

----------
Used google translator, means "Art of Love" ... and I'm sure this is not correct ... any guys here speaking Japanese? Uhh and yes, it does mean -that-. Shepard is a sly dude :D

Shepard: So you're got a black belt now?
Ashley: Yeah. Took up some Akido with Lynn.
Shepard: I've never been much for martial arts.
Ashley: I noticed. Everytime I've seen you in a fistfight, you're all about evasion and tiring out your opponent first before beating the crap out of them.
Shepard: Most people expect me to be a straight-up puncher, as you put it, but I'm more about letting my oponent tire themselves out before going in for the metaphorical 'Kill'.
Ashley: See, if I hadn't seen you fighting for myself, I'd of said that was a total lie. Evasion isn't the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name 'Hero of Elysium'.
Shepard: I imagine that most others would say the same. Especially because all my childhood, the only quote-unquote 'Discipline' I took up was Le Parkour, Literally 'The Art of Escape'.
Ashley: Were you a pacifist as a kid?
Shepard: No, I just liked to show off a bit.
Ashley: Ah.
Shepard: Have you ever flipped off the top floor of the cargo hold then walked away without so much as a bruise? Its a hell of a rush.
Ashley: Nope, I climbed trees, but I didn't flip off them.
Shepard: Gah! You don't know what you're missing.
Ashley: Are you saying you can still do it, Skip'?
Shepard: It's one of those 'riding a bicycle' things, but gimme a week or two and I'll be able to do it perfectly again. Or, I could teach you how to free-run?
Ashley: That a promise, Skipper?
Shepard: Not 'promise' per se, but the offer's on the table. Got a mission to do first.
Ashley: I might take you up on that.
Shepard: Cool. Get your cute little butt into armor and lets kill some bad guys.
Ashley: Yes Sir.
Shepard: Also, Ash?
Ashley: Yes, John.
Shepard: If you want to seriously learn, then don't turn the lesson into another make-out fest like marksmen training.
Ashley: Ah, but John. Would I ever do that to you?
Shepard: Ashley. I'm serious. Take the training seriously, or I just won't teach you. Those are my terms.
Ashley: You take your hobbies really seriously, don't you?
Shepard: Yes, Ash, I do.

^^ Nice one Aurora ;-)

I like the idea Shepard is Ashley's teacher. Okay, my Shepard is a sly dude who tries to get into Ashley's pants with his "martial art". Yours taking it quite serious. Hmm ... Shepard is no longer the "whipped one" in that relationship? They're darn fine equals.

Ashley: ... this ... John!
Shepard: Yes, Ash?
Ashley: You told me we're going to do some Ai no geijutsui lessons.
Shepard: Indeed, we do.
Ashley: It does look like we're going to do something different, Skip.
Shepard: Not really. Maybe I should translate it for you.
Ashley: Shoot.
Shepard: Ai no geijutsui means "Art of Love". I just invented it ... and gave it a Japanese sounding name.
Ashley: So you did that to get me into your bunk?
Shepard: Yes.
Ashley: You ass *playful*
Shepard: Is that a "yes" or a "no" for starters?
Ashley: Let me put it this way: your XO wants a private lesson of Ai no geijutsui ... *smiles sexily* ... she's a grandmaster on her own ...

No, he's still whipped, but free-running is something he invested most of his childhood in, so he takes it very seriously. He has fun, but its a very hard discipline and required alot of attention and time. Screw it up and you could easily break a bone or even lose your life.

Hmm, poor Shep :P
Okay, in my Shepley!canon both are becoming more and more equals. Means: sometimes Shepard is whipped, then it's Ashley. It depends on the situation. Ash is the better crackshot, Shepard the better tactician. Shepard tries to learn cooking, Ash criticizes him, but can't cook at all. Lets say - they're completing each other - and have a lot of banter regarding stuff one is capable doing while the other can't.

It's a reach-or-flexibility contest. Shepard and Ashley are pretty much even. But we both know Shepard would do everything for Ashley and Ash knows that. On the other hand: Ashley would do everything for her Skipper - and he doesn't know it

I don't even know how to describe my Shepard and Ashley's relationship.

On some level, Shepard is looking for a replacement for his first wife and tries to find comfort in Ash. On the rest, he wants Ash because she's a fiery woman (his type of gal) and is equally beautiful as she is sophisticated.

He feels guilty for dragging her into the crap with the Reapers and that and he feels that he has to keep his 'old life' away from her, buried deep in his memories never to be spoken about again (though she finds that out anyway, canoically through an off-handed comment by Rox during a poker game).

He feels a lot of jealousy towards her because she shared a close relationship with her father and grandfather (Jon-Mal hated his paternal grandfather, although in awe of his father, their relationship wasn't as close as it could have been).

He also feels pity and anger for the crap she was given before Eden Prime, especially since he and Rox have both done worse and still managed to stay officers even with positions of Command (he deserted for about two years injecting god-only-knows-what in his arm, attacking anyone who was trying to help him; Rox killed two SFs about half-way through the academy without the slightest remorse - they deserved it, but still.) and Ash had done nothing but excel at every aspect of her career.

And I'm rabbling on about the negatives. Sorry

It's okay, Aurora ^^

Your Shepley is a lot different since Shepard comes with a lot of baggage. In my headcanon Shepard had to go through far less hardships. He's pretty much an ordinary guy who was at the right place at the right time and did something right to single-handedly defended a colony and therefore became an hero. He still has his family (at least his mother, father unknown?). Besides that, my Shepard is not that outstanding except for his determination to get that job done.

Think "my" Ashley loves him because of that: he's no "God", but a normal man who made the best of the situations the galaxy had thrown him in. Ash feels equal to him because, although being a war hero and living legend, Shepard is still connected to reality and cares a lot of those who're close to him. Basically, Ash believes Shepard can settle down one day and found a family with her - which is one of her heart's desires. After all, she's a family person ^^

Think Ash and Shepard both empathised with each other during their first meeting, no matter which background you come from, Shepard has seen a lot of Action that earned him a reputation. 'Sole Survivor of Akuze', 'Butcher of Torfan' or 'Hero of Elysium'. He's lost a lot of people during those events, on a larger scale than Eden Prime. So, they sort of bond with each other over that, even if it was mostly just an officer checking his surbordinate's well-being.

Too bad Shepard's reputation doesn't play a bigger role for Ashley. I mean, a woman could be deterred by the reputation as the "Butcher of Torfan".

In my canon, Shepard is always a "war hero". I might do a run with Shepard as "sole survivor" as well, just for a different flavor. Ashley likes to be together with a "war hero", especially one that earned the "Star of Terra". However, she doesn't love Shepard because that hero reputation, it's his character. A normal soldier who made it through hell alive, Shepard became a hero by circumstances, not on purpose.
You can consider the "sole survivor" as hero too, although that event didn't earn Shepard a medal.

Thank god 'Butcher of Torfan' belongs to Roxanna then, not Jon-Mal.
