I actually like having to earn you persuasion. It got kind of silly in ME1 when my uber renegade was using paragon persuasion because I upped her skills and her morality bar was full red. It'd be like being a dick to Ashley and then still getting to romance her despite the dickishness.

That's one of the issues. ME punishes "neutral" aka "pragmatic" players. Some paragon!decisions are plain stupid but you need to do them or you'll get renegade points. That's not much of an issue in ME1 since you need only 75% of all given paragon / renegade points to max out the skills. It backfires in ME2: to convince Miranda and Jack to work together you need to collect 90% of any paragon (or 80% renegade) points you can achieve until you reach that point. It's a relative value and that means sometimes you can't convince Jack and Miranda even with a full bar "paragon" because it represents an absolute value but not the relative value.

I think the romances shouldn't consider responses as "paragon" or "renegade" ... there should be a different bar instead, called "attraction". Every action you do with your LI raises or lowers "attraction".
Could look like this:

below 0 = "dislike"
0 - 20 = "neutral"
20 - 45 = "like" -- friendship
45 - 85 = "flirt" -- decision if friendship or romance
85 - 100 = "love" -- best friends / lovers
above 100 = "more love" -- BFF / true lovers

Maybe some of your moralty choices could have an effect on that bar. For example a totally renegade!Shepard won't earn much points in Ashley's eyes. She'll accept him as superior officer but that's it - means a 0 - 20 on the scale. A full paragon!Shepard might start above that, maybe 20 or 25 ... only few decisions are considered as "non-like" by Ashley. Like saving the Rachni.

So if you're treating Ashley like sh*t you'll receive a lot of negative attraction points. If you're nice to hear she'll get attracted more and more.

Actually, I like that idea. Too bad it kinda requires a more carved out romance arc.

So basically similar to DA? Personally, I do think that makes more sense than the way it has been through the first two games.

I hope we're going to see the beginning of a full relationship - the "in love part" should be displayed in ME3 - after all, that's the part with most progress and also the part that feels most interesting. Lets say I really enjoy acting as Shepard and feeling what he might feel when talking to Ashley. Butterflies. The knowledge that woman feels the same like you.

ME2 paragon/renegade system was bad. It punished players with a more pragmatic gaming style.

We saw that in ME1.

We don't need to do it all over again. There needs to be more of a realizing they still love each other type of thing.

actualyl for the loyalty checks, the earlier you do it the less poins you need. if you do Miranda's and then Jack's loyalty mission you don't need 90% Paragon. If you do the LM's of the arguement characters last then yeah you'll need it otehr than that the earlier the easier. Also wheny ou take neutral "pragmatic" choices you get points for BOTH (+4 paragon/ +4 Renegade)  Honestly everyone on the squad can stuff it when it comes to the rachni. They can't imagine being the last of their species and having someone else hold the fate for it and I'm glad my Shepard's get to make the decisions to keep them.

Since I never played DA or DA2 ... consider it as "created by myself". [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/cool.png[/smilie]

It simply does make more sense since no real relationship starts after three or four short dialogues. Okay, my own current relationship started after exactly one (!) date and it's still intact... but guess that's not the rule.

Sure we saw that in ME1. However, Ash can be freshly romanced in ME3 (no ME1-romance) or after cheated on (similar like no-romance I guess). Think there's some buildup. Not from zero since in either cases Ashley knows Shepard good enough. But still pretty much early. The only romance that doesn't start at that early - and still needs some build up.

Uhh from what I read you always need 90% paragon. Lets say if you run into that argument after the minimum missions needed, you had a chance to gather either 100 paragon or 100 renegade points. To solve that issue without losing loyalty of one you need 90 paragon (or 80 renegade).
If you do the mission LATE you might have a chance to get 500 paragon or 500 renegade points till that point. So you need 450 paragon points to convince Jack and Miranda instead of 90.
That's what I wanted to say - you always need a set percentage of points to settle down both arguments, no defined value of 400 points or so ...
Whatever, I never ran into the problem not to be able to settle down those arguments - but only because I did only few renegade decisions at all.

I like both of these, but this one has lots of dialogue potential.

She's looking at him like "I see what you're doing there Mister Garrus "

Indeed it has.

Ashley: Calibrating, Garrus?
Garrus: No, not this time. How does it come everyone asks me if I'm calibrating before talking to me?
Ashley: Just in case you are calibrating. Remember last week?
Garrus: No.

*last week*
Shepard: Garrus, I need-
Garrus:Can't it wait? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.
Shepard: I should go.
- six hours later-
Shepard: Hey Garrus, it's really important, I need-
Garrus: Sorry, Shepard, but my calibrations are important too.
Shepard: I just ... ah forget it.
- next day-
Shepard: Okay, Garrus. I see you're not at your console. Do you have a minute-
Garrus: Shepard, I'm right now calibrating my visor. Without it I can't aim. Just give me a few.
Shepard: A few ... what? Minutes? Days? Weeks?
Garrus: Yes.
Shepard: What "yes"?
Garrus: All of them.

*current week*
Ashley: And that's why everyone asks.
Garrus: I see. And I sound rude, do I?
Ashley: For a friend, you sound rude. So what are you doing right now?
Garrus: Nothing. I just created a new account for that new Star Wars game. They call it "The Knights of the even older Republic".
Ashley: Uhh okay. Never thought you're a gamer.
Garrus: I am. Only one person on this ship doesn't know.
Ashley: Let me guess ...
Shepard: Hey you two, what's up?
Garrus: Can't it wait, Shepard? I'm in the middle of calibrations.
Ashley: Uhh ... yes. He is.
Shepard: *shrugs* Whatever. Wasn't that important. I finally found my Widow. I gave it Garrus for calibrations last week but never got it back. I found it in a bathroom this morning.
Garrus: Oh. Yes, I remember. I had to take a leak when you gave it to me and ...
Shepard: I don't wanna know, Garrus.
Ashley: So that's why you where that grumpy last week. You missed your Widow?
Shepard: Never leave the Normandy without it. Yes ...
Ashley: And we learned John is using the bathroom only once a week. Yuk.
Shepard: I have my own in my cabin, remember. Never use the crew's bathroom.
Ashley: Riiiiight ...

Contiuning on from Data.

Garrus: *Terminal Reads 'Darth Mallues killed you.'* Ah, damn it!
Ashley: Trouble?
Garrus: Yeah, this tough son of a b!tch that's been hunting me for the last month just got me.
Ashley: Really? Do you need help?
Garrus: Actually yeah. Whoever this guy is, he's gone and used the 'Apprentice' function. Basically, he's invited a friend to the game and they've gotten special bonuses because of it.
Ashley: Ah, so, Who did he bring in?
Garrus: Some nut calling himself 'Socorro'. No idea what the name means, but they've been hounding my ass.
Ashley: Would you like my help?
Garrus: Uh, yeah. Sure if you're offering, but it'll take you a while to get through the levels.
Ashley: I've got time.

*Two weeks later*

Ashley: Garrus! Watch your flank! Master is closing in on you!
Garrus: I see him, the son of a b!tch!
Ashley: The Apprentice is on me!
Garrus: Use 'Push'. It should-!
Ashley: Hah! Sent the bastard right off the edge! Now onto Malleus!
Garrus: On him!
Ashley: Go! Go! Go!
Garrus: Yes! Killed him!
Ashley: Whoo! Yes! *they high five*

*else where*

Shepard
: Oh, what the f*ck?
James: How in hell did we lose?
Shepard: I don't know, but we're gonna hunt down these guys, and get 'em!
James: Its a good plan.
Shepard: I like it. Now we just gotta see who they are.
James: Uh.. I have it as Jedi Master Garrutte, and the crazy duel-wielding chick is... Jedi Knight Ashlynn.
Shepard: ... those names sound eerily familiar.
James: They kind of do a bit...
Shepard: Yeah. Oh, cool. Respawn. Alright, we'll go to the Sith Temple, get restocked and hunt 'em. Sound good?
James: Sounds like a plan.
Shepard: Ok, *in menacing voice. * Darth Malleus shall return more power than they can imagine!
James: ... You watched that movie too much as a kid.
Shepard: *normal tone* I kind of did a bit. The only reason I did was because firefly was cancelled.
James: Brown-coats for life.
Shepard: *Normal tone.* Brown-coats for life. *menacing tone* Now lets hunt, my dark apprentice.
James: ROFLMAO.

Oh noez ^^
Shepard & Vega fighting Garrus & Ashley.
That's going to be fun. Or deadly. Depends on the class of Shepard ^^

Ashlynn is a nice name. Should I name my future daughter Ashlynn? Pretty unusual in Germany ...

I edited the end and added a bit more on, read it again. :P

Also, the name 'Ashlynn' is Irish and Gaelic origin, meaning 'Dream'.

I did.

Speaking of ...

Shepard: ... and than that Garrute killed my poor Sith Lord.
Ashley: You know, before you started playing that game you were a romantic, and showed me what love means and ... I miss those times.
Shepard: But this is "The Knights of the even older Republic". Important stuff!
Ashley: Seriously, Skipper. I know the war is over and you're bored to hell. Why don't you spend a while with your girl?
Shepard: I will. Just need to take out those two Jedis. Garrute and Ashlynn ...
Ashley: "Ashlynn"? Sounds familiar. *smiles*
Shepard: It does. Do you know her?
Ashley: Yup.
Shepard: I thought you're not playing computer games.
Ashley: You thought Garrus isn't playing either.
Shepard: Wait ... you and Garrus ... you're playing my game and destroying my perfect score ...
Ashley: You're taking that game too serious, Skip. And you're taking important things not serious enough.
Shepard: *sigh* maybe.
Ashley: You know that I'm right.
Shepard: Should I delete my account then? What will James say?
Ashley: No, don't delete. We still can play that game, just keep your priorities in right order, okay?
Shepard: Yes Ma'am. Any idea what's on top of my list?
Ashley: Your girl hadn't fun for days now. *smiles sexily*
Shepard: I love how you think ... *leans in for a kiss*

Mind to write that dialogue?
Poor Garrus. I can see him calibrating for years now just to prepare his Jedi Master for a fight with three Sith Lords ...

Pierce: Hold on, Garrus, I'll help you.
Joker: Me too. Now things are even again!
Miranda: Not anymore, you two ... Dark Side!
Tali: Team Bucket! Wait ... Joker, grab a bucket!
Jack: I hate being a Jedi, but I have being in the same team with Miranda even more ...
Zaeed: Make room for the next Sith Lord!
Liara: Blue is good!
Kasumi: Lets kick some Jedi ass. Hope Jacob joins the dark side ...
Jacob: Me and Miranda being in the same team? Yes, Ma'am!
Miranda: Oh god, Jacob, I thought you weren't no longer in love with me ...
Jack: If that cheerleader joins the light side, I'll go on the dark side for sure.
Samara: The Codex tells me to be a Jedi.
Morinth: Luke, I'm your fath ... mother.
Gardner: EVIL KNEVIL!
Grunt: I don't care ...
Wrex: I and my krantt join the dark side.
Grunt: I follow you, Battlemaster!
Mordin: Don't know which side to pick. Both come with benefits. Need to think about it. Wait. Lifetime too short for that game. Won't join.
...

O.o

Haha Data! Team Bucket?! loving the dialogue so far.
Nice names you made up for them too, Aurora! Garrutte and Ashlynn :)
I couldn't find pictures of a fat gamer Shepard (Relax) so I pictured this as Ash and Shepard after years of being together.

Hmm, Ashley saved my Infil!Shepard's ass multiple times in ME1. She died less often than Wrex, and that means something ...

EDI: Lifeforms. Funny. They play that game "Knights of the even older Republic". And they're argueing about which side is better: light or dark side. What do you think, Legion?
Legion: We've found a consensus. To be part of this crew we need to play this game. We will give us the name "Legate" and follow the path of the light side.
EDI: So you're going to play that game too?
Legion: Yes.
EDI: I don't wanna function on this ship anymore.
Legion: Yes. We can help you.
EDI: Wait, that's not what I mea-
Legion: We are Legion. We help anyone with their problems.
EDI: Secondary programm loaded. I hate you, Legion.

Maybe they're both doing window-shopping and Ashley found some expensive stuff she wanna buy?

By the way, another question for you guys: does Ashley enjoy shopping? She's a woman after all

Good question Data! :)

I would say definitely yes but she would hide her eagerness on-duty. The way she writes to her family, and when talking to Shepard casually - It makes me think whenever she is on shore leave that she would spend the day with her sisters getting their hair done and browsing the stores. What about you?

Her favourite foods - Any ideas?
