@Badpie. Hmm... that's true, hadn't thought of that. I just had this image of Ashley's father telling her stories of her Grandfather and well... I couldn't help thinking that he'd of mentioned what he knows (or thinks he knows) of his own father. But if he was filled in by the Alliance then what he knows could be totally wrong anyway..
Gen. Williams sure seems to hate Turians, and he's most definitely NOT on board with the whole co-exist thing. Ash was certainly exposed to some of this, which is probably where a lot of her negative ideas about non-humans originated. I honestly doubt she got the full brunt of his dislike for nonhumans though, which may be why she's hesitant, but still relatively open-minded.
Regardless of which version is correct, Ash's story or the comic, the part I'm still hung up on is the line Shepard says during the conversation -
"As I recalled, your grandfather held out for a long time."
And this is coming from someone, from a completely different background, with no prior involvement with Ashley or her family, who apparently has some knowledge of the events of Shanxi and it's relation to the General.
Not to go off-topic, but in the novel Revelations, it was stated that Saren's reason for hating humans was because his brother was killed by one during the First Contact War. Yet, in the the Evolution comics, he's the one who kills him, to prevent him from using a Reaper artifact to take over their home-world. (a rather large contradiction IMO)
This is why I don't put much stock in the comic's portrayal of events in the ME storyline, other than TIM's background, since there is no other version.
