As I said before ... Ashley is - in my eyes - the perfect candidate for XO. She's no "yes woman". Ash has her own ideas, her own opinions, her own points.
That plus the challenge to keep her as love interest make her to my favorite character ...

Ohh ... and this smile too:

Seriously - who can resist her? She's so darn beautiful, even some straight women would change the side of the river for a kiss

What about Jack?

She can tell you f*ck you and let that guy walk way, if you order her to kill him and not use Renegade interrupt.

And she does it by you simply saying "Don't do that" and she completely forgets what he did to her. And she isn't even pissed that you did that.

Brilliant.

Most definitely.  I never really encountered a moment in the game where I felt like she was questioning an order or anything.  Insubordination is the direct refusal to carry out an order to follow your commanding officer.  Ash never did that.  She was always at Shep's back.  The only time she ever mentioned disagreeing with any of decisions was after the fact (like when she said she thought it was a mistake to let the Rachni queen go) and she only mentioned it because Shepard asked her opinion on it.  In fact she was always seemingly hesitant to get informal or to readily speak her mind unless Shepard told her she could speak freely.

As for anything else she says, it's no more than your other squadmates and what they say to you.

I even recall before she mentions her wariness of Garrus and Wrex poking around the ship (the top secret military ship), she was very hesitant. Definitely

meant to trigger in the very beginning, she has to take a deep breath and say, "All right. Here goes...". She's not proud of the feelings she has. She doesn't take every opportunity to point out the flaws of every alien character or species. She doesn't parade her distrust of them. She's merely taken on a more pragmatic, defensive approach. I'm not even convinced it's an approach she needs to get rid of.

yeah I love having tons of Shepards. it makes the Ashmance unique with every diffrence.

I can only romance one character with one PC, personally. Not sure why, exactly, but romancing one character with several PCs feels... weird. Like cheating, somehow. But that's just me. I romanced Ashley with a Colonist/Ruthless Renegon Sentinel, so as far as I'm concerned only he has has for her. If I ever made another dude Shep, it'd be to romance another lady... not that I'd expect turning Ash away to be any easier, it's... just how I'd do it.

Sorry for the quality, but I always liked that part. Sums up what I think of their relationship pretty well. Obviously Shepard is on top profession wise, but on a personal level, she's the one keeping him on a short leash.

He did nothing to her.

She only thinks he'll re-build that place.

A misconception in my part, but that wasn't the point.

Jack stands aside without any complain. She's afraid that he rebuild the place, Sherds simply says that she souldn't do it (stating no reason why she should) and Jack is fine with it.

At least Zaeed states (going through the Paragon choice) that he can put his revenge aside for the mission. That doesn't make him agree with Shepard or anything.

I think that's an accurate description of why a lot of people dislike her actually. She isn't necessarily a "yes man" to Shepard.  And I guess that's what people playing the hero in a game really want:  agreement that the hero is always right.

One reason to why I dislike some companions in BW's games. And their reason for agreeing with the protagonist (even by going against their own belief so easily) is disturbing.

Pretty much only Zaeed's LM did this well.

People have too big ego to have someone to disagree with them.

When there is, he/she/it/they must be killed.

Yep ME2 pretty much gave them that ego, hopefully ME3 will show there are some things Shepard can't handle

yeah Shepard was at her mary sue best during that game.Image IPB

I feel like they really balance each other out.  I'm not sure anybody has anyone "on a short leash."  That kind of infers dominance one way or the other.  They may be playfully competitive but it's about give and take I think.  They're both pretty alpha.  :D

No "short leash".
Think Ashley is pretty much "too much woman" to handle for the ordinary dude. However, Shepard is no "ordinary dude", he's a "g*dd*mn friggin' hero" with a reputation.
So to speak, Ashley is the equal for Shepard.

(Did I ever mention I admire women which are like Ash - or better I admire Ash because she comes with traits I'd love to find in a woman)

"Boom. You made me say it. There goes my feminine mystique."
"Never had you pegged for mystique. Figured you more as the take charge type."
"Oh, I can take charge."

(It's paraphrased, but that's basically what happens with the last Renegade option.)

All right, all right, so... the leash only comes out on special occassions? XD

But yeah, I get it. I think a slightly more compliant Renegade Shepard (as in, one who doesn't just pick the bottom options all the time and just yell and say no to everyone) would initially try to keep Ash "in line", even though it simply can't be done. Maybe he knows that already, but he does it because he enjoys the stimualting challenge she presents.

I love that dialogue option. I find with Ashley the best combination is a mix of paragon and renegade dialogue choices. ....And that one (among others) is really hot.

I was going through the Ash Dialogues on youtube.

Ashley is prophetic.

She says that he grandfather was 'relieved of command, dragged home in irons. No trial, demoted and stuck him behind a desk.' (paraphrased)

What happened to Shepard between Arrival and ME3?
Nice stealth foreshadowing bioware.

Yeah ... too bad I'm a sucker for that upper right option *g*
Think if you go down that line it's more lovey-dovey with a couple of bad lines. Going for some lower right options as soon as the relationship is running leads to a more ... steamy love. Too bad you can't get Ash in your bunk if you stick with those options for too long :innocent:

Could you imagine Shepard pulling the line "I'm playing nice to get you in my bunk" when talking to Ashley? He does in case you romanced Miranda - as the "paragon" answer. And I thought I have bad lines sometimes B)

Actually, that line fits more to a renegade Shepard & Ashley. I'm not sure if she receives that one well. Slap in the face anyone? Ashley is someone you shouldn't play games with. Miranda isn't either

That works too, AD.

I should go to bed now - I'm tired and my gf is pestering me too. Seriously ... why's that hard for her to fall asleep while I'm doing my business ;)

Ashley is far more independent in that matter. Won't moan if Shep isn't nearby for a nice sleepover in the captain's bunk ...

A dialogue appears and uses 'Somber'

Ashley: What's the matter?
Shepard: I was wondering, do I seem similar to you?
Ashley: What do you mean?
Shepard: I mean me before I died, and me after I died.
Ashley: What brought this on?
Shepard: I suppose someone in my situation - if they ever arrive in this situation - would have a tendency to be paranoid about their origins.
Ashley: What are you talking about? You're you. You're treated the same, so why are you going on about this?
Shepard: But that's the problem. The way I'm treated. That's the only thing that makes me feel like I'm still 'John Shepard'. Sometimes I wonder whether or not Cerberus couldn't bring me back, that I died back on that planet and they created a clone with a mechanical brain then shoved a sophisticated VI into it. Maybe that's all I am. Just a shadow or a ghost trying to fill a dead man's shoes. Sometimes it feels like if I make a decision it's because someone else had made it for me and I'm trying to justify it as mine even though I fundamentally disagree with it.

Ashley: If I ever heard a pile of bullish!t, this would take the cake.
Shepard: What?
Ashley: You heard. And maybe, yes for the sake of argument, that you're right. You're not the same John Shepard that you were back then, but it doesn't change who you are right now.
Shepard: Because I don't know who I am right now. Not much is gonna change that.
Ashley: -.- ... I'm trying to kick you off your ass and out of this morbidly depressing mood. Can you just work with me for five minutes?
Shepard: I love it when you talk dirty...
Ashley: I can hurt you.
Shepard: Ya-huh.
Ashley: Back to my point. So what if you're not that John Shepard? If it feels like a mask, then just become the mask. And if it feels like a burden, then get rid of it.
Shepard: It's not as simple as that Ash.
Ashley: No. Its just a simple as that. But you always make these decisions into something massively complicated and make them seem like they're impossible to solve. It really isn't. I know that it sounds insensitive, but you're the one agonising over it like a child.
Shepard: It isn't that simple.
Ashley: No? I pretty much summed it up with the 'Become it or get rid of it' thing?
Shepard: You don't have any idea what I'm going through. This isn't exactly a normal situation.
Ashley: Its not, I agree. But do you think the Reapers are going to sit around drinking tea while you're trying to sort out your identity crisis?
Shepard: That's a low blow... although for some reason the image of a Reaper wearing a top-hat  and a monocle and drinking tea... Heh. Now, that's hilarious.
Ashley: It is. Now get your ass back to work, John. Before I kick it. We got Reapers to slay.
Shepard: You make it sound so fun.
Ashley: How isn't it! They're so very pretty when they explode....

Ashley: Will all due respect sir, You're an idiot.
Shepard: What was that?
Ashley: You heard me... sir.
Shepard: Are you questioning me?
Ashley: Yes sir. And I accept and disciplinary action you wish to -
Shepard: Thanks. :)
Ashley: ... I'm sorry, what?
Shepard: For letting me know how you feel.
Ashley: ... I'm not following.
Shepard: Every time I give an order, people seem to follow it without question, even if it's stupid or moronic. They seem to think I'm going to do something horrible to them if they refuse.
Ashley: You are the CO, Sir.
Shepard: Yeah, but I don't want to be followed around by boring 'yes men' all day. I know that a ship can be a monolith and single-mindedly focus on their goals, but I don't want a crew of drones. If I wanted a crew like that, I'd just dump you all on the nearest moon and buy mechs. I like having arguments and debates in hindsight, especially in hindsight.
Ashley: Permission to speak, Sir?
Shepard: Stop asking, and just speak Chief.
Ashley: You're a very strange man.
Shepard: It's a gift.

Yep. It's a special unit.

Wait, isn't Shepard a "navy marine" while Ashley is a "ground soldier"?
Could be another reason - N7 is a navy special unit ("N" like in "navy") while S is a regular special unit of ground forces?

I should check that ME wiki again ... ^^

Whatever. I'm fine enough Ash comes with her own profession. And as long as she's there to kick someone's sorry ass, I'll be happy.

i think the N is just the code letter for  elite special forces in general. but yeah i guess she is a spectre  now so it doesn't matter much anymore :)

But a lot of the flirty renegade lines are nice even. I'm telling you, don't miss out on those because you're married to the upper right.  :)

And the "I'm just trying to get you into bed" line with Miranda was meant as silly.  She got it.  She laughed.  I dig the sweet stuff Shepard can dish out, but I also like the more playful stuff too.  And there's nothing saying a paragon can't be a lttle cheeky too.  ;)

I don't post here often, but I did want to show my support for Ash. One thing that I'm hoping for with ME3 is to finally have an answer as to what Ashley wanted to tell Shepard after their night before Ilos. Hopefully the writers can oblige us!

That would make day to all ashmancers. And to keep it up would be nice. Ashley makes a very perfect XO, capable of not blindly following orders and very capable of bringing shepard in line if my shepard steps out of the line. Both shepard and ashley think outside of the box which makes the the perfect couple because they complement each other.

I think that was supposed to be left up to the player. Personally I think there was an "I love you" waiting for Shepard back on the Normandy (that's how I put it in my story at least.)
