Your name is Williams too? You are automatically awesome.Aurora313 wrote...
I honestly prefered 'Don't worry, Shepard. I'll protect you...'. I personally dislike it because it feels like it's making fun of my name as well as Ashley's. For those who don't know, my family name is also Williams.

Yeah… I just noticed it, and I agree. It’s a mocking her family name. I’m sure if somebody actually said that to her she’d knock them out. If somebody added something that sounded a lot like a sex/kiss/eat joke to the end of my name, I’d probably do the same… Or at least say something witty. Meh. But what you gonna do? I'm gonna watch LB.

I don't know what Abby and Lynn would do but I'm betting Sarah would slam someone's face into the ground for making fun of her name.Aurora313 wrote...

True. We know Ash is "yummy" .. maybe AD changes the thread's topic back to "protect you" ...
Did you read that lengthy dialogue on last page :innocent:
Thanks Aurora. Took a while to type it down, 'specially since I'm awful with poems @ English.
Also had a loooong talk with two guys via PM. One of them is a really good fan of ME / VS in general. And the other one seems to be one too, however, he forcefully hates my idea of rebooting ME-series and being part of the writer's team. I really wonder why ^^ He simply claims I have no idea and told BW can write stories. Although I concur they can write stories, they also fail with writing stories WITHOUT running into plot holes and plot solve issues as well.
Soooo ... that was kinda random, right?
Has a bit to do with Aurora's wish to be part of BW's writers team.

Williams is a good name. I believe its insulting and belittling. Besides the 'I'll protect you' line suited, in some etymology: 'Williams' means 'Protection'.
Nice to know. Old English? ^^
Williams sounds good. At least it sounds better than my own name which is originated from - you won't believe it - Sweden. No idea if there's a meaning ... maybe someone from Sweden can help me.
Now that we started this topic: some of those guys in ME do have names which also describe the bearer's personality.
Williams is "protector" (soldier, sniper), as you said.
Shepard is obvious.
Think once I read "Thane Krios" has a meaning too.
Lawson?
Anderson?

2) Cutscenes are drastically affected by your past decisions and narrative.
- The article describes an example of two seperate motion-captured animations for a cutscene were Ashley is seriously injured and if Shepard romanced her in ME1 he'll actually pick her up very "tenderly" as apposed to picking her up in a more "professional" manner.
6) Ashley/Kaidan is "a focal point for ME3" and is still some what suspicious of Shepard's involvement with Cerberus and the Illusive Man.

A thought popped into my head: 'Jonathan' means 'Gift of god'. I named my character that for obvious reasons, he's essentially a god-send during the Reaper War and even before that when arriving at Eden Prime.
'Williams' means 'Protection'. I put the two etymologies together and thought of the line: 'Protecting the gift of god'.
Seems rather an accurate protrayal of their relationship and purpose in the game, don't you think?

Said it before, I had a long PM-session with a real ME-fan. That's the guy who also wrote the VS-analysis by the way. He claims the VS is one of the major characters and also comes with the most developed romance / character arc, if you allow it to happen. Only Liara has a similar (maybe even more developed) story arc.
If you look for drama & big emotions, I'd say Ashley/Kaidan are more interesting than Liara. They seem to be important pivotal points - maybe not for the main story, but for the emotional part of the game. Think at least my Shepard is fighting for Ashley. He couldn't do it for a faceless galaxy - but for the one he loves. Just my interpretation.
It fits well to the statements you quoted: the VS is a focal point for ME3.
Indeed, Aurora, indeed.Aurora313 wrote...

Think you know "John" is a short form of "Jonathan" - so that's an obvious one. It's a bit interesting "John" is Shepard's default name. Although BW claims the default name has its origins in "John" and "Jane Doe" it fits well to your theory. John Shepard" "the gift of God". You could call him Jesus.
I don't believe in God since I'm an atheist, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in such stuff. I do believe in destiny ... kind of.

.... eh, it's a talent. *blushes bashfully.*
Shepard: I'm not a strong believer in God, Ashley.
Ashley: Figured that. And I don't care. You know, being religious does no longer mean feeling offended by those who aren't.
Shepard: Never said I'm not religious. I'm just not believing in God. Think I go more with buddhism. Enlightment. Rebirth. I'm sure you heard of it.
Ashley: Yeah, I do. Abby is a buddhist. She converted four years ago or so. Said "God is nice and such, but don't wanna spend an eternity in heaven." I'm sure she converted more 'cause she don't want to end in hell. Then again, we're beyond that point ... heaven ... hell ... heck with it, I don't care. I believe in God. But I believe even more in myself, since that's the place where God lives. Here, right here in my heart.
Shepard: That's not too far away from what I believe, I just don't call it "God".
Ashley: I'd say it's more like that: you need to be in peace with yourself. Something I achieved only since I know you ... and redeeming my name could have helped too. If I have to die today, I'd die as a happy woman. There's nothing I left behind I would regret, except you, of course. Think that's basically what I believe. I need to be true to myself ... and then I'm honest to God.
Shepard: Sounds as if you're enlighted already ...
Ashley: Does it? And I thought I'm talking nonsense *smiles*
