I think that after ME3 comes out and people have played their canon story 20 X they will start to branch out and find that some of the other characters/romances are pretty good.

I've always loved Ashley & Liara but just this past year I started giving Kaidan a chance. I've grown to really like him and his voice actor has just made that love grow.

I've only done 4 (Ashley, Liara, Kaidan & Miranda) but I'm sure down the road I will try others. Vega looks interesting and who knows who else they will have in ME3 so we shall wait and see. But first those stories will need to be completed.

I am really hoping that Ashley is opened up to FemShep but if not ... oh, well.

Hey Badpie. I was re-reading Untilted Effect, and I couldn't help but wonder, just who is that woman 'Jess' and her son Jack? Who are they to your Shepard? I mean, I gather that she's an old flame, but are you planing on revisiting that?

That was mainly for background for Shep.  I may or may not touch on them again, but they're definitely just people from his past.  It was mainly meant to show more of who he is.  The past is very relevant to who a character is and how they interact with other characters and in life in general.  .....Like how he interacts with Ashley....see how I brought that back to her? hehehe

This is also kinda off-topic but what is the preservice history and psych profile for Shep in Untitled Effect? I probably should've picked up on it while I was reading but I thought I saw something about parents. Is he the standard Earthborn and Sole Survivor or a Spacer and something else???

Oh, it -is- possible. However, from what I've got so far, "cheating" on Ashley (or Kaidan) might have consequences. You should try at least one playthrough without going for another woman ^^

Saw a lot of Shepard-talk. Think he's "just" a Lieutenant Commander. However, even Lt. Cmdr. Ash can't outrank him, since his rank is leveled above her's cause of the longer experience ...

But we have plot!armor Liara, therefore, Ashley will accept it. Maybe she'll lash out a bit, but that's it.

A renagade Shepard would probably agree and point out that he's equally pissed at Liara and threatened shoot her(liara) himself if she wasn't needed.(that's what my Shepard would do as his renagade self)

As a paragon? He'd try to talk Ash down, but would probably get the cold shoulder for a while.

Dunno. I'd like to see another VS/Liara confrontation. Somehow VS<->Liara are the BIG competitors in the game. There's some kind of tension between both.

Shepard will side his/her LI in that moment, and it won't be a renegade/paragon decision. So in our case he'll side Ashley and tell Liara that he's still suffering an identity crisis. Really want to see something like this. No one dies and gets revived months after his death and is still the same. Okay, maybe there's a lack of proper data since we simply don't have the technology to do a "Lazarus project".

Overall: I'm not sure if Shepard is -really- thankful for what he had to go through in ME2. I can't see why people demand from him to be thankful or something. It was hell. Losing all of your friends. Suffering said identity crisis. Being forced to work for a terrorist organisation. Friends turning their backs on him ... and who did Shepard say all that stuff? Liara! That's the one I would tell last, since she's responsible for that mess.

All of my Shepards wanted to stay dead. They didn't ask for "Lazarus".
I'm not sure about Ashley here: maybe she's thankful - sort of - Liara brought him back. After all, now she can continue that love with him.

Why do they always call it cheating? My Shepard started to get interested in Miranda after Horizon. Is that still cheating? Is there a way for it not to be considered as cheating? Shepard still wants to friends with Ashley. Will that work?

Because Ashley sends a message apologising for her actions and expresses interest in contiuning/restarting their relationship. Though in my eyes, unless one of the two parties in the relationship say the words 'We're over' or 'Our relationship is done', then as far as I'm concerned, its just an angry/bitter fight after a brief reunion.

Lets go through:

Is it cheating?
Depends on your interpretation. If you say "death closes all", then that old relationship is gone.
You also can see Horizon as break up, if you want.
However, since you romanced Ashley, she'll write a letter. That letter can be considered as re-affirming interest in Shepard.
Also: Liara is aware of a new relationship. I'm not sure here, but I think she considers it as cheating.

Is there a way it's not considered as cheating (by Ashley/Kaidan/Liara)?
Think it got stated once: your old LI will address that issue. And I think they see it as cheating - or at least as something that puts a burden on your romance if not dealt with.

I want to be friends with Ash - does it work?
The chances for that scenario are high since "friendships" get introduced afaik.

Liara wanted Shepard revived because of sound reasoning though, atleast in part. Shepard is, as Miranda puts it "a bloody icon", his/her name is known throughout the galaxy, thus s/he can have a significant impact. As we saw, after Shepard's death everything that was build up by him/her fell apart again. It's not unreasonable to think that with the death of the symbol that stood against/believed in the existance of the reapers, that idea also slowly died.

But Liara still believed in the existance of the Reapers, she must've known Shepard would be able to rally people against the Reapers, as he had done before. That and Shepard was the only one that actually ever faced a Reaper, something that the Reapers themselves even seem to acknowledge.

The other part of her willingness to revive Shepard probably had more to do with the fascination she had gathered for Shepard and thus her own selvish reasons. If there is ever a confrontation between Ashley and Liara, Ashley can hardly refuse to see the logical reasoning behind reviving Shepard, unless she is so annoyed and angered in a heated discussion with Liara that she doesn't really pay attention to this argument.

And for Shepard this is hardly a moment where s/he needs to think about being thankful or not, s/he is here and the Reapers soon will be, with Shepard chances of rallying the galaxy under one banner have increased and thus s/he'll want to continue this work.

Shepard had the chance to walk away, at least theoretically, since the story goes a different way, but she saw the necessity to work with Cerberus.

I hope Ashley is not as short-sighted, at least not anymore or she will get into serious trouble with me.

There is an easy way to get your wish: by not importing your character into ME2 .
