She 'almost...' what ? What do you guys think ? Does it have anything to do with what Mac Walters said about what the VS has gone through, like the change in Liara ?
Secondly, does anyone know who Ashley's principle writer is on ME3 ? I know Chris L'Etoile, her main writer on ME1, has left Bioware. Thanks.

Shepard: Huh?
Ashley: You... haven't been listening to me at all have you?
Shepard: No, no. I've been listening.
Ashley: Then what did I just say?
Shepard: 'So, what now'.
Ashley: John. You weren't listening.
Shepard: Ok. I admit I wasn't.
Ashley: Oh, such a shame. So, you weren't listening to me when I said I bought some new lingerie for tonight.
Shepard: That's ni - Wait, what?
Ashley: Oh, no, don't worry. You obviously weren't interested. I guess I'll just have to throw it out.
Shepard: Oh nonononono! Don't, don't.
Ashley: Yeah, NOW you listen.

Just finished Horizon with a romanced Ashley. She has an interesting line that I've always wondered about. She says "I thought you were dead...I almost...How could you put me through that ?"

Ashley: "I almost ..."
... lost faith in God.
That's what she was about to say in that moment. Ash isn't the kind of person who would rather die than living alone after the loved partner died. She's not in that suicide stuff, doesn't fit to her. However, losing her faith - that's most plausible.
@ Aurora: still working at that dialogue ... no good idea so far

Liara: I had my reasons, Ashley.
Ashley: So? And which one told you to hand his corpse to Cerberus?
Liara: Can't talk about this now. It's ... a secret.
Ashley: Oh come on, Liara. You know I won't buy it. Why Cerberus? Why not someone else?
Liara: Because they had ways to bring Shepard back. And as you can see, they did. Shepard is back. You should be thankful I brought your lover back, but all I receive is hate.
Ashley: And you really wonder why I feel like that? You recovered his corpse, you handed it over to Cerberus - and didn't send word. And how can you sure Shepard is still Shepard? Cerberus isn't known for playing a fair game. They could have implanted a control chip or something. Or reconstruct Shepard's intellect as some kind of sophisticated AI.
Liara: I ... they promised me to bring him back. Shepard was important enough to spend billions for that project.
Ashley: We both know Cerberus is a terrorist organization. You were with us when we destroyed several of their projects - Rachni, Creepers ... you saw all of that stuff. And you still trusted Cerberus? I can't believe what you're saying!
Liara: Maybe I'm not that narrow-minded like you!
Ashley: You're naive.
Liara: Without my help, Shepard would be still dead right now.
Shepard: And sometimes I wish I still were dead. Sorry to interrupt you two. But I could hear it outside of your office, Liara.
Liara: Hello Shepard. I ... we have a little discussion here.
Ashley: Yeah, sort of.
Shepard: Fine. As long as you keep it civilized, it's okay.
Liara: Of course.
Ashley: I'll keep my mouth closed, if you insist, Skipper. Doesn't matter I can't believe what Liara did.
Liara: Sure, Williams. Do you think it was easy to give Cerberus Shepard's remains? It took days for me to go through that decision. And just for the record: I care for Shepard as much as you do. Even if he's ...
Ashley: Yeah, it's obvious you still feel something for him. It doesn't make it better; if you really loved John, you should have left him with God.
Shepard: Okay, you two. This is leading to nowhere. We're all on the same side, right? You better should settle that little argument before it gets out of hand.
Liara: As I said, I'm fine with that.
Shepard: Good. Ashley, what's with you?
Ashley: It's up to you, Skipper. Can -you- live with the thought you could be someone different?
Shepard: I'm still the same John Shepard, Ashley.
Ashley: Look in your heart. Maybe Liara can't sense it without touching your mind, I can. You're unsure. I can see it in your eyes.
Shepard: It doesn't change anything, even if you're right. Doesn't matter anymore.
Ashley: You sound like someone who accepted his own death.
Shepard: I accepted the fact I died once and came back. And for now I have to concentrate on our mission, there's no time for ethical questions. Ash, you know me better than anyone else - you know the job comes first for me. I don't matter here.
Ashley: And what exactly does matter for you? Except the job? What drives you to go past your limits, to continue?
Liara: If you can't answer it on your own, Ashley, you don't deserve a man like him.
Ashley: Shut up, Liara.
Shepard: Cut that, both of you. This is getting out of hand again. Ash, I told you already what's important for now. Liara - I'm not sure if I should thank you for bringing me back - or not. I'm back and I can make a difference. However, I can't do it without you both. We're all in the same mess and if we want to defeat the Reapers, we HAVE to put our personal feelings aside.
Liara: If you insist, Shepard.
Ashley: Wait, Skip, does that mean ... it's over? Or something?
Shepard: I don't know yet, Ash, I don't know.
(still not happy yet)

Shepard: Why? what makes you think something's wrong with me?
Pierce: You've got that kicked-puppy look on your face.
Vega: Come to think of it, Commander Williams looked pretty down too.
Joker: What? Mum and dad are fighting, again? How many times has that been?
Vega: I figure it's about the third time in the past twelve hours.
Shepard: I'm so glad that you're all so casually discuss my personal problems in public. Make me feel loved. Keep it up and I'm tossing you all out the airlock.
Pierce: You're being a whiny little b!tch today.
Joker: Yeah. I gotta agree. you and Ash are definitely fighting, huh?
Vega: And here I thought Loco was the modern-day James Bond.
Shepard: Cut it out! My problems are none of your concern.
Joker: Stop dragging them out into the open and we'll stop discussing.
Shepard: Look, things are tense between us for obvious reason but we're getting there. So STOP discussing it. That's an order.
Pierce: Oh! for god's sake! Screw her already or I will!
*All men within earshot stare at her with various looks: gaps, raised eyebrows or just down-right shocked.*
Pierce: ... what?

What'ya think about my Liara-Ashley-Shepard dialogue?
#15657
Posté 24 janvier 2012 - 01:35
I liked the dialogue. Though admittedly my Shepard would have gone off his nut a little more, then again, he's more emotionally unstable than your average Shepard.
Again, I liked it. Makes me want to go back to the 'Cloned Shepard v Real Shepard' idea
And I just might.

Honestly, kind of speechless because it's true. And they say the truth hurts, right? I like it nonetheless because I feel like I can immerse myself into Shepard's position, making the tough choices and sacrificing personal feelings because of the task ahead.CptData wrote...

Aurora, I'd like to read your own interpretation about that stuff. Really want to see your Shepard's reaction when Liara and Ash are arguing. Could be interesting. Or it might cause a trauma ^^

Sure. I, however, stick with that first interpretation. As I said, Ash is not the type for suicide. Leaving the Alliance is ... possible. Losing faith in God works best with Ashley since she's religious and losing Shepard IS a huge blow for her. She could ask herself: "why did God take Shepard?" or "why do I have to suffer that much?" - losing the love of your life will cause some issues.

I haven't figured out what she was going to say ... Loss of faith? Ending of life? Leaving the Alliance? All are pretty cutting for Ashley. Maybe in ME3 this will be discussed further or Bioware will leave it to the player.
Now in my game, Ashley is not 100% in love with Shepard. He could be the one but she has her doubts. She was starting to lose her heart to him and then he was gone ... for now she is not sure how she felt. ME3 is where she will either love him or let him go.
In my single femShep crushing on her ... Ashley-oh, wait. I'm wishful thinking again.

Depends on how close Ashley and Shepard are, you never know who's the suicide type until they either fail an attempt or succeed. Shepard was everything to her, evenif unromanced Shepard helps put ashley's career in places she wasn't going to reach at her pace because of the blacklisting.CptData wrote...

I always wondered what she was going to say. I think that fits best for me but I think it can interpreted depending the player. It's something bioware is good at. Just think of how many ways Ashley was interpreted in ME1. There are people on the BSN that hate her with a passion and others that think she is one of the emotionally deepest video game characters of all time.

But yes, I'd say losing faith would be the best fit. Her dealing with survivor's guilt multiple times over with losing Shepard as the worst (or one of the worst) form(s) of it would almost indefinitely strike a blow in her faith IMO. Even though in her message to Shepard says that she prayed for him every day, at some point she would almost lose faith.

Yup. That's my interpretation of that stuff.
Lets check it:
- Ashley's name is blacklisted since her Grandfather surrendered to the Turians in the Battle of Shanxi
- Her father never made it up into higher ranks, despite the fact he was "better than the best"
- She joined the military to cleanse her family's name once and for all
- Ash lost her entire unit on Eden Prime and barely survived a Geth attack
- Shepard sacrificed Kaidan to save her
- Shepard died
...
- Shepard returned & works for Cerberus
Uhh sorry. Ash should have a feeling like this: "God, why in heaven do you throw all that sh*t at me? What did I wrong?"
The best thing about Ash is: she's never giving up. Her character never got broken, she has no real issues like other characters.

I agree.
I can't help but think back to the dialouge option Shepard can have with Ash "You know the term there aren't any atheists in a foxhole." I've always imagined that Ash rushed back to work after Shep died. Cause I can see her thinking like that and maybe if she was in a few foxholes it can renew her faith.

Oh captain, my captain ... why did you leave me? Why do you have to end with your ship? For the first time in my life I found happiness, everything seemed perfect .
O Captain my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
I still can hear his voice - feel his breath - taste his lips ... and remember the tender touch of his hands ...
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
... and can sense his presence, right here, in my heart. Oh Skipper, why aren't you with me? Why, dear Lord, had you take him from me? Why did you have to take the one thing from my life that gave me a reason to hope ...
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Death closes all - but not the wounds it leaves behind.

Ashley: *pulls herself up* Tired already skipper? Woulda figured you'd be kicking my ass, Mr badass N7. Then again, you're a Spacer boy, ain't cha?
Shepard: I've climbed mountains of cargo containers that were harder than this, you little colonial b - *hand slips* - Whoa!
Ashley: You ok, Skip'?
Shepard: I'll live. *grunts and throws his hand up to the next rock.*
Ashley: Good, hate to think that you of all people would fall while rock climbing.
Shepard: Little smart ass. And what do you mean 'Me of all people'?!
Ashley: *Laughing as she finally pulls herself on the top.*
Shepard: Oi! Ashley! *Climbs up faster and eventually gets to the top.* Ashley!
Ashley: Oh, you're such a baby...
Shepard: *pants and hunched over his knees*
Ashley: And really unfit, too. Guess you're too flabby for rock-climbing.
Shepard: *panting* Bite me.
