I'll second shep's quote of there never being an atheist in a foxhole. Still haven't met one. the one atheist i did know landed in me and my buddy's foxhole on a really bad day. it was common knowledge that my buddy was deeply religous. well atheist finds a small cross buried in the dirt and looks and my buddy and says "Thank God you're here! Now tell me how to work this thing!"
Ps i never laughed so hard while under fire
Ha!
Yeah I couldn't really decide how to play my Shepard in regards to religion after he spoke with Ash. Hadn't thought about it but that conversation with her brought up something that ended up being kind of an important character aspect just for my own head canon with Shepard.

Same here. My "headcanon" Shepard is an agnostic. He doesn't really believe in God but also can't find evidence that he doesn't exist. Shep is not decided in that matter and doesn't see a reason why to fight for one side.
When he's talking to Ashley regarding that matter he's acting polite by pulling that foxhole-line. You can call it a "lie" of some sort, depending on your interpretation.
Oh, and like me, my headcanon Shepard leans towards Buddhism.

Ashley: This again?
Shepard: I come baring gifts. *walks in with coffee and breakfast* But, your not looking in a pancake mood.
Ashley: People dredging up old debates again.
Shepard: Which?
Ashley: Religion.
Shepard: Oh, is that all?
Ashley: Is that all? It's a big deal to me!
Shepard: No its shouldn't. *Ash goes to speak but Shepard raises a hand to atop her.* You're beautiful, and perfect just the way you are.
Ashley: Thank you *goes to kiss him, but he stops her.*
Shepard: Breakfast first this time, please?
Ashley: But, Johnny!
Shepard: .... No don't, don't do that. Don't call me that.
Ashley: *sigh* Fine, but I want dessert when I'm done.
Shepard: Counting on it.
Lol! This reminds of why I love Ashley's pet name for Shepard, ''skipper'' it's official but playfall at the same time, it's much better than her just calling him Shepard, it's so weird calling someone by their sir name if you're in a relationship with them or are a close friend.

How does your Buddhist Shepard reconcile killing all those people?
Yeah that conversation with Ash I usually choose the "Your beliefs are your business. I'm your commanding officer, not your moral compass" option because I feel like it doesn't say anything about my Shep and what he believes (if anything), PLUS Ashley then says "Just my commanding officer huh? We'll see about that." See how quickly religious talk is abandoned in favor of flirting? This is why I like Ash.
Hehehe

I love "Skipper". Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling whenever she says it. Ash usually gives that pet name a slightly erotic tone - at least that's my imagination *g*
Have a tendency to use "Skip" in my dialogues instead of "Skipper". And - the newest one - is "Snoozles". Not sure if I'm going to use it that much - it's pure headcanon.
Still looking for a pet name for Ashley.
He's leaning towards Buddhism, but he's no active Buddhist.Badpie wrote...

And Shepard is no pacifist, even if he's trying to use as least violence as possible (paragon dude).
I'll give Ash that line next time. Usually I pull the foxhole-line. And as I said: Ash doesn't mind Shepard's beliefs. She takes him as he is. However, she also demands the same from him: "take me as I am." I like that line. It's purely honest. And that's really hard to find in R/L.

It would be neat and a nice touch if she called out "skipper" instead of shepard when you first see her before the meeting if you're in a romance.

I still have faith in them, ME3 looks great so far. I actually expect her to if you romanced her, it would be a nice touch indeed.

Shepard will have to use logic to justify his actions in arrival. He had to sacrifice few to save many.
Yeah, my Shep knows he had to do it but it doesn't make it any easier. He loses sleep over it... a lot.
As for Ash's nickname, I just always figured it would be "Chief" even when she wasn't anymore. I like it. It's cute and not too mushy.

I simply can't make up one. I mean, "Starbun" doesn't do it. "Honey" sounds cheesy, same for "Love" and such. Think Shepard has a really low creativity on that field. And I fail here either. Ashley is so awesome ... she doesn't need a pet name. She's Ash. Simply as it is.

I would find it hilarious if you can call her Skipper when you first board the Normandy in ME3.
Definitely.
Ashley: Welcome, Shepard.
Shepard: Hey Skipper.
Ashley: ... now that felt weird. Me? "Skipper"?
Shepard: The Normandy is your ship, therefore you're the Skipper.
Ashley: Skip ... it ... okay.
Shepard: No need to say anything. I know you love it.
Ashley: Subtle as a boot in one's face.

Shepard: Yeah, I am a bit. Trying to think of a nickname for someone.
Vega: Really? Who.
Shepard: The pope. *sarcasm* The Missus, Who else do you think?
Vega: The Commander? What have ya got?
Shepard: I was thinking 'Athena'. You know Greek goddess of War.
Vega: ... I admit, I didn't think of that one. I was thinking 'Amazon'.
Shepard: If I haven't been feeling so lazy right now, I would threaten to skin you for that one. But as it stands,
Vega: *gets hit over the head by something* Argh! Damn it!
Ashley: Be glad it was just my hand. *walks off*
Shepard: Yes, last time I cracked that joke. *sharp inhale* was not fun.
Vega: I get that impression.

I HC that since the cipher gave Shep the experience of the Prothean he also experienced their destruction extremely vividly. (Has severe PTSD because of that and it's why he goes frothing at the mouth whenever someone mentions Reapers.) He feels no need to rationalize it because he knows how it would've ended. It was simply them or him scenario.

Hey, Ash will do a great job in comforting Shepard. She'll even sing him a lullaby if needed
Can you imagine Ashley singing? A lullaby?

(Ash stuffed up!)
