I've been working, Cpt. And trying to get a new Shepley art working.

Unfortunate, it has not been very easy or successful. Got family stuff going on too. Been more than a little angry today.

Just a thought:
Shepard and Ashley cuddling on the couch under a blanket in casual clothes (i.e pyjamas) watching tv together, maybe with Garrus and Tali sitting in other chairs nearby eating popcorn. Something cute like that.

Are you going for badass or tender? Like... both Shepard and Ash suited in armor looking at each other before stepping off the shuttle, or before walking into a big fight. Hard and determined.
As for tender... Well, I always wanted that pic of Shepard beside Ashley's bed. Aw.  Sap me now!

Okay. I do have an idea. Think we still need a picture with Ash & Shepard sharing one bed. Ashley comforts Shepard because he gets haunted by nightmares every single night since he returned from the dead. Actually, those nightmares "define" my canon!Shepard - although he doesn't show anything to his crew, he had a tough time without Ashley. The nightmare itself shows him losing everything and Ashley dying in his arms.

Something like that. Now ... make it happen


@MBE: No. 8 hours without no activity. Uhh and redbaron wants Aurora and me becoming members of BW's writers team. I suggest to add Badpie too ... and AD should do the S/S part ^^:happy:

Ashley managed to recover her senses after a few dizzying moments. A bomb had detonated inside the Alliance residential block only moments ago. Fortunately, she had been outside the inital blast radias, others hadn't been lucky. The smelt of burning flesh had been sickening, but something made her stomach lurch.

"John..! Kaine...!" her voice came out hoarse. "Kaine!" She tried again, knowing her faint cries were futile against the raging embers.

"Damn it ... " She cursed herself, the taste of copper in her mouth as she tried to stand. Her muscles burned at the exertion, but she fought through it knowing full well that a second of hesitation could very well mean the difference between her living and dying.

"John!" Ashley called out to the blazing inferno, only to hear its crackle mockingly answer her desperate cries.

Ok, bit emo-y. Had a bad day as stated previous.

Oh yeah, another project I'm working on. About the 'Kaine' side of John-Mal Shepard and the story of the balisong he carries. And I might introduce a new character into the canon.

Obviously its gonna be Shepley. But its gonna be darker, dealing wth John's lesser, more sadistic natures.

Lol. Childish Shepard is childish. To be fair, John-Mal never really grew up on the inside. His inner child was just buried.

Sometimes I don't understand your Ashley - she loves an ex-drug-abuser with a history (two wives), that's an emotional wreck and now he's a sadist? Ouch. Your Ash has a thing for broken, twisted guys, huh?

Have a less twisted Shep:

Shepard: What do you think about this?
Ashley: Honest answer? It's good. Your writing skills become better and better.
Shepard: Thank you. What do you think of this part?

Somehow he managed to go through the battle without scars. The woman in front of him - his lover and greatest challenge - had yelled at him. Ashley Willard, his great love, fierce soldier and loving woman, had yelled at him, John Schaefer, one of the galaxy's most decorated heroes ...

Ashley: It's okay. I don't yell at you, not that often. Uhh ... and "Willard"? "Schaefer"?
Shepard: Just use aliases for you and me. "Willard" is close enough to "Williams" and "Schaefer" is the German word for "Shepherd" - and that's close enough to Shepard.
Ashley: Makes sense. Still - I don't yell at you.
Shepard: This Ashley does. For the drama, you know?
Ashley: If you make me looking bad, you'll get a real drama, John Shepard.
Shepard: It's just a novel-
Ashley: It's a novel about us. Keep us in character, and I'm fine, Skip. Make me looking bad, and you should rename Ashley to your new girl then.
Shepard: That's not fair, Ash. What's a good story without a drama?
Ashley: Boring. We have our story. Remember those five years we're together now? Hunting down Saren, being separated for a long time, you even died. And then you came back, defeated the Collectors, destroyed the Reapers, almost lost me, don't you think that's enough for an awesome story? No need to add extra drama.
Shepard: But this IS about those events, Ash. And the Ashley in that story yells at John because he did something really, really stupid: he saved Ashley's life. And had to sacrifice someone by doing so.
Ashley: Another situation like we had on Virmire? When you picked me over Kaidan?
Shepard: Uhh ... actually, I described that situation. That's Virmire. Just I called it Vermeir.
Ashley: I see. Makes sense. But we weren't lovers in that time. And you weren't a hero yet.
Shepard: Wait ... right. "War Hero of the Alliance" doesn't count, huh? But you're right about the love - we were still flirting, right?
Ashley: Yup. You definitely need to review that part. Uhh ... and since we're at it ... cut the sex scenes. It looks like as if we were doing the deed every single night.
Shepard: But we DID it-
Ashley: No need to tell it everyone, kay? Don't make me looking bad. I mean, my mom could read it!
Shepard: *sigh* okay. Less means more.
Ashley: Exactly. I'd say - reduce it to one scene in that first book. Maybe our night before Ilos?
Shepard: Good idea. I'll do that.
Ashley: Fine. Maybe if it's good enough, someone will make a great computer game based on your story.
Shepard: Hell no, no one wants to play such game. All the violence!
Ashley: ... riiight ... don't watch Fuchs* Interspace News too often, it kills your brains, Skip.

Fuchs = German word for Fox.

Maybe.
Or it's something entirely different. Maybe Ashley loves your Shepard because he gives so much hope but is a hopeless existence. Or she admires him, because despite the sh*t the universe threw at him, he's still sane enough to do his job, he still shows compassion and is still able to feel love. And maybe Ash simply hopes being able to fix Shepard, repair all the damage done by fate, for him and a brighter future together.

In short: Ashley loves the challenge Shepard offers.

Thoughts on my dialogue? ^^

I was thinking that he managed to bury/deal with those feelings until the minded with Liara messed him up again. Random violent images, he learned to separate them from his day to day after some effort, but Liara messing with that mental barrier sort of sent him to the edge a bit. The war hero exclusive mission was his 'walk into darkness'. Terrorified the hell out of his squad mates, Ash of whom was on it.

Kinda makes sense. After all, Liara had to raze some of Shepard's mental barriers to read his mind. Not sure if Liara took her time and was careful - or if she was in a hurry and did some damage. Since my Shepard has not much bad stuff burried in his brain, nothing bad happened with Liara (except the uneasy feeling of "did I had Asari-sex with her?!") and so he went through that stuff unharmed.

But your Shepard is a damaged existence, almost broken but still in one piece. He's quite fragile and the one and only thing that keeps him sane and intact IS Ashley. Without her, your Shepard couldn't move on. She's his anchor, the beacon of light and gives hope to a hopeless man. Right? Right.

Know what I'd like to know? I wonder how Shepard's inner child takes all that crap. Ashley should be able to explore this side of his ... maybe in a long dialogue where Shepard finally breaks and releases said inner child.

Two - father figures(Kaine, Hackett and Anderson). Sad but its true.

And I gotta tell you, I'm not entirely certain how it affects his inner child. But the essence of a good character is that you develop them constantly. Anyway, Ashley would probably find it endearing. In my world 'inner child' means buying ridiculously sized teddy bears and filling quarters with balloons on birthdays and other memorable occasions.

ONE: Ashley and Roxanna
Yeah, figures. His "sister" who most likely knows him better than anyone else including himself and Ashley is definitely one of the most important persons in his live. Won't go into the "unfulfilled love" part again (that requires us both in good mood ) but it also might play some role here.
Ashley is obvious: the love of his life (although his 3rd wife one day) is the very reason why he's fighting the war against the Reapers and his inner war.

TWO: Fathers and father figures
Why "sad"? I like the fact Shepard has three "fathers". Kaine turns more and more to the father he should have been for 30 years. Not sure how long Anderson is knowing Shepard, but guess that guy was more father than anyone else. And Hackett? Seems to be a good friend or some kind of an uncle. Wouldn't call him "father figure" - but he gives a lot of support, strengthening Shepard's back.#

Hmm, and I thought the inner child of Shepard is a frightened young boy that hopes for a brighter future. Somehow I can see that little guy in the middle of a cold room with dozens of dark creatures around him - haunting nightmares. The more beatings Shepard gets, the more creatures are surrounding child!Shepard. However, there's still a white light left, some hope, the beacon that keeps that little guy alive - and that's Ashley. I just wonder if Ash can save that little guy ...

"Stupid family game"? Since I'm separated from my family (they still live in Dresden, I'm living 500km away), I value those together-evenings ... but yeah, when I was 18, I hated them too. Now I miss those evenings.

(And I still can understand you. Being not able to write down a thought causes pain. Serious "writer's pain". It's nagging in your mind, forcing you to think about it over and over again ... )
