I am a bit lost Capdata, i don't know where you tried to go ...
And still she's not conservative enough. She might be conservative in her time, but she does not look like someone who would vote the Reps. Ashley appears to me - I'm an European with an ex GF from USA - like the normal Jane Doe from the East Coast. She's not backwards or something, but she has her traditions. Family comes first, but not because of religious reasons. Actually, her religiosity doesn't seem to have much influence on her life. She believes in a Creator, she even names this Creator "God" - but she never states if she's Christian, Jew or Muslim. She also does not tell Shepard if she's Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, etc. So it's up to the player to find the "right" religion for Ashley.
In my case she's a Protestant OR a Jew. She's not a fundamentalist and doesn't support extreme positions. Maybe something between - or she's like me, creating her very own PoV. Means: she's religious without following one of the big religions.
That's what I can see so far.
Ashley appears to be "normal". She has flaws and traits, she's almost like the girl next door. Of course, she's the girl next door that made career in the Army, is currently a Staff Sergeant or something and may kick your ass, but she's also a beautiful woman and "normal". And straight forward.
Represented by Ashley:
- med religious people
- slightly religious people
- agnostics
- monotheists AND polytheists
- religious atheists (Buddhists - Buddha isn't considered as god).
I talked about those ones.. Why are you talking about fundamentalists? I do not speak about them I speak about those who are simply believers, like Ashley, moderate. Christian's profile is modest for the majority of people, not fundamentalists. The fact that she doesn't talk about catholics, blah blah doesn't matter. montheism, god, lines close to religions in real life. That's where the perception is established. Why are you saying me she isn't fundamentalist ? That has nothing to do with what I said. Still the fact is she could be perceived as a religious person. religious doesn't mean fundamentalist, I don't know where you did get that. A modest or a weak believer can be religious. Or at least, that's what i am talking about.
To intend to keep a profile that speaks to ordinary people who are believers, does not mean that the person meets the expectations of fundamentalists or that the character is fundamentalist.
And it's a stupid reaction.
There's enough evidence for gay people following religions, in both ways. Just because it's a taboo to talk about - and in several nations such people get banned or imprisoned or even executed - it doesn't mean they don't exist.
No. Here we move away from a debate, and we are moving towards a path that does not please me.
I have already said that I did not judge that. The fact is that BioWare takes everything into account. If your goal is to make the judgment on other people's opinion, the discussion ends there, I'm not interested.
If I gave you this example is to show you how bioware has succeeded in giving the perception of a character, which seemed close to reality. Whether you agree or disagree.
And how the perception is established.
That's really backwards. Another proof Ashley isn't very conservative - at least not in today standards.
There you are just playing on words. ashley is conservative, whether very, or enough, or a little. If you want to say me she isn't conservative, there I do not agree, I love Ashley but I am not blind. She can be conservatice about some things and not conservative about other things. ( politic opinions )
She's her own character, doesn't follow the rules of political correctness (aka straight forward) and does what she thinks it's the right thing. Sure, she might be created to represent the ordinary soldier you also could meet today - I said she's basically a really normal person - but she's not. American soldiers are drilled to obey orders. Ashley speaks her mind quite frequently - she's no grunt that blindly runs into enemy fire because of her superior's orders.
You don't need to explain me that. I still struggle if you understood what I am talking about, from a different perspective that isn't mine. Obviously, Ashley is more than that. What counts here, is they intended something, and how basically she was perceved. If some people are wrong or right, again isn't the subject.
