Thanks for not letting me know that there was a new Ash thread.
Nice to see how important I am to all of you.

*hurt feelings*

I kid, I kid of course. But still, AWESOME!! Another Ash thread for the new Mass Effect 3 forum, I'm seriously loving this.

A couple of burlesque pictures for the new thread:

Also, I'll just mention something else:

I think we all agree that there should be some kind of substantial difference between dialogues depending on whether or not Ashley was from a previous romance in Mass Effect 1 or a fresh start to a new player, if so... how would you recommend the dialogue change?
Also in the event that Ashley has started going with girls, should the dialogue be altered or should it be the same?

It has been confirmed that cheating will result in getting some very serious trouble with a bad timing (CATFIGHT!!!) And since Ashley is VERY emotional and sometimes lacks her control of it in ME1, i think its gonna be a great scene. I still hope that Ashley will play a main role in ME3 (maybe even one of the temp. PC). And thats why:

- Ashley gets involved with Shepard, even against the alliance rules (could have become very problematic for both of them)
- If you dont date Liara in ME1 it is Ashley who decides to stay with Shepard onboard the burning Normandy (there is no LOGICAL reason for her to do that)
- If the player convinced her to be more paragon in ME1, she lost her xenophobic taste in ME2, blaming that espspecialy he, who convinced her that aliens arent that bad, shouldnt work for Cerberus. Damn, as a spectre she even works for creapy alien politicians she once publicly hated
- She lets the commander know that both have changed and now need to move on
- This way Ashley basically ended their relationship, but i sense the feeling (in the mail) that she isnt convinced about that herself ("cant loose you again", calling him "skipper" again etc.)
- As a spectre, she isnt bound to alliance rules anymore. Dating another soldier shouldnt be a nono anymore
- I just cant believe that Bioware will let us down. In ME1 has been much more talking stuff and background with Ashley than with Liara. Maybe the DLC just tried to compensate that

I think the entire romanceoptions in ME2 are just another paragon/renegade choice. Paragon players will stay loyal to their ME1 LI and get rewarded as always when you choose the paragon action (hugged by Tali, additional dialogues in Lotsb etc.). Renegade characters would cheat and have to pay the price in ME3. And "darker" also means more emotional.
So i think there will be some Battlestar Galactica style again (ME2 used massive BSG content): The experience that, in the end, love conquers all.

Examples for the BSG content in ME2
- Alliance with the Cylon rebels / alliance with the Geth. Has once been unthinkable
- Conflice between the human hardliners and those who agree with this alliance (think of the Quarians)
- The final battle in ME2 and the last BSG episode look the same. Both taking place on a deep space station next to a black hole with only a small landing zone and a lot of wreckadge / asteroids around them
- Both have this yellow/orange background
- Both are suicide missions
- The damage onboard the Normandy (if you dont use the upgrades) is exactly the same as in BSG
- Cheating and personal conflicts are some of the major problems in BSG, same in ME2
- Shepard on trial, so is the great but controversal BSG hero "Lee Adama"
- Kara "Starbuck" Thrace got also long hair in the last season. Same cut as Ashley Williams ;)
- The LI between Apollo and Starbuck is against colonial rules, so they are stuck. Same goes for Ashley and Shepard in ME1

And that are just some examples. The ME2 music also has some serious BSG touch. As a big fan of BSG i would welcome more of that :) I hope we will get the "So say we all!" dialogue option at some point. I would laugh like hell :P
So i am optimistic that we will get our unique time with Ashley, not just some gotime at the end.

Great post and good points there for BSG ref. Always loved that series!
I had a feeling that cheating will have a really bad impact that could cost some serious distrust among the squad (especially with the ME1 and ME2 LIs) and thus leading to further problems during missions. For me like you said, Ashley is emotional and often use poetry to describe it better since it's difficult for her to describe it in words in ME1. And yes, despite going separate ways in ME2, I think she still has feelings for Shep. It's just that seeing someone you cared about technically raised from the dead is a difficult thing for her to cope with. She'd probably shut her feelings and have tried to bury herself with work in order to forget about Shep's "death" during those two years.

And now that she's back and as a spectre, that's where the fun starts. We don't know what she's (or even Kaidan) been doing during the two years and during our pursuit of the collectors that made her files classified. She said she has changed in the email she sent Shep. I for one hoped that she matures in terms of personality but still retain her witty self. It's like how the Paragorn Shep managed to change her in defending the aliens during that one side mission on the Citadel in ME1 (can't remember it).

As for how they would react to each other, hmm... If somehow Ash becomes more serious and has somewhat build a wall around her, I want Shep to break that wall with a Thanix cannon if he has too and somewhat makes her laugh again :D

Oh, forgot, I support the new thread! *throw cookies* So say we all!

Small ME1 Ashley related question: Precisely what dialogue option in the first game is it that triggers her romance?

I haven't played ME1 for a very long time but you can try checking it here (I don't think it will give spoilers much):

http://www.completem...p?title=Romance

Generally being nice to her will lead to the romance regardless whether you choose the Paragorn/Renegade path. Hope it helps.

Thing is, I'm actually trying to avoid triggering it. Posted Image

Reason for that being that I want to complete an ME1 no-romance walkthrough.

Oh, lol that clears things up. Try picking the middle response or the more neutral ones. And if any of the LIs make any advances to you just deny it or pick the choices which indicates you didn't want to proceed it.So long as you didn't trigger the love scene, you should be fine me thinks.

Great to see Ashley is back.

One of the best characters, male or female, in a game who actually had a well thought out back story and has character growth.

Erm...Promoting Shepard would result in "Brigadier Admiral" I dont think that would fit his role ^^

I hope there is no 'catfight' scene between LI's. It's one of the things I am actually dreading about the game.

A scene like that demeans both characters and glorifies Shepard's actions. And for me, it is not something I see Ash being involved in.

When Shepard's an ass and suggests a threesome in Mass Effect 1, she walks off. To have her get into a catfight over his cheating on her in 2 would be extremely out of character for her in my opinion.

Ashley Williams is a strong, self-assured woman. She wouldn't stoop to fighting over a man who cheated on her. Shepard's proved by his actions he's not worth her time.

Well said, Midnight.

I can't imagine Ash in a catfight either.

I don't think the confrontation to those who cheated on Ashley would turn into a catfight between her and another LI. I see it more of a mature talk between the three. As for whatever happens after it, well, we have 9 months to wait for it.

Changing topic a bit; since BW confirmed that squad banter will be explored more in ME3, which NPC would you look forward the most to have a banter with Ashley?

@Drotter: Legion. Legion gets the best banter due to being a geth so he and Ashley should have some good lines.

Anyone agree with me in that there should be a section of the game where Ashley saves Shepard?

Agreed! I for one would love a scene where Ashley console Shepard after he made a decision that would probably haunt him. Shepard smiles, looks at her and as they just started to share their moment, they were disturbed by Joker. Brings a bit nostalgia of ME1.

As for Legion and Ashley banter, I can see the flashlight comment making a comeback.

What about is actually Ashley who has "moved on" in these two years? Like, "you DIED years ago, Shepard. What was I supposed to do, become a nun?"
Paragon: You did well, Ash. Two years ago I told you I wanted you to be happy, and that hasn't changed.
Neutral: Alright, never mind what I said. I'm just glad you're by my side again.
Renegade: [sorry, can't think of anything. Someone else do this line please?]

Ashley: *has a target lined up but Legion snipes it* stupid flashlight head
Legion: meatbag.

Thats looking like the scene where she fly's in with the Normandy. But yeah Shep getting saved for once would be cool to see.

QFT.

And i would add to this that I don't see any of the other female characters as that either.  I feel like all of them are too good for something like that.  I would be really disappointed.  I wouldn't mind a snarky comment or two, but if there's a catfight I won't even finish the game.  Ick.

As for squad banter, I don't know but I'm really excited to hear what smart ass remarks she has in the thick of combat.

And as for saving Shepard, SHE ALREADY DOES!  In the demo!  Posted Image

The only person I could see going to blows over Shepard is Jack and maybe Tali, but I doubt Liara, Ashley, or Kaidan would return unless provoked physically. Ashley would get snarky and probbaly be the one to bring up the choice dialog "Shepard, you can choose you want to be with, I'll resepct it either way." Like a boss.
