It has been confirmed that cheating will result in getting some very serious trouble with a bad timing (CATFIGHT!!!) And since Ashley is VERY emotional and sometimes lacks her control of it in ME1, i think its gonna be a great scene. I still hope that Ashley will play a main role in ME3 (maybe even one of the temp. PC). And thats why:
- Ashley gets involved with Shepard, even against the alliance rules (could have become very problematic for both of them)
- If you dont date Liara in ME1 it is Ashley who decides to stay with Shepard onboard the burning Normandy (there is no LOGICAL reason for her to do that)
- If the player convinced her to be more paragon in ME1, she lost her xenophobic taste in ME2, blaming that espspecialy he, who convinced her that aliens arent that bad, shouldnt work for Cerberus. Damn, as a spectre she even works for creapy alien politicians she once publicly hated

- She lets the commander know that both have changed and now need to move on
- This way Ashley basically ended their relationship, but i sense the feeling (in the mail) that she isnt convinced about that herself ("cant loose you again", calling him "skipper" again etc.)
- As a spectre, she isnt bound to alliance rules anymore. Dating another soldier shouldnt be a nono anymore
- I just cant believe that Bioware will let us down. In ME1 has been much more talking stuff and background with Ashley than with Liara. Maybe the DLC just tried to compensate that
I think the entire romanceoptions in ME2 are just another paragon/renegade choice. Paragon players will stay loyal to their ME1 LI and get rewarded as always when you choose the paragon action (hugged by Tali, additional dialogues in Lotsb etc.). Renegade characters would cheat and have to pay the price in ME3. And "darker" also means more emotional.
So i think there will be some Battlestar Galactica style again (ME2 used massive BSG content): The experience that, in the end, love conquers all.
Examples for the BSG content in ME2
- Alliance with the Cylon rebels / alliance with the Geth. Has once been unthinkable
- Conflice between the human hardliners and those who agree with this alliance (think of the Quarians)
- The final battle in ME2 and the last BSG episode look the same. Both taking place on a deep space station next to a black hole with only a small landing zone and a lot of wreckadge / asteroids around them
- Both have this yellow/orange background
- Both are suicide missions
- The damage onboard the Normandy (if you dont use the upgrades) is exactly the same as in BSG
- Cheating and personal conflicts are some of the major problems in BSG, same in ME2
- Shepard on trial, so is the great but controversal BSG hero "Lee Adama"
- Kara "Starbuck" Thrace got also long hair in the last season. Same cut as Ashley Williams

- The LI between Apollo and Starbuck is against colonial rules, so they are stuck. Same goes for Ashley and Shepard in ME1
And that are just some examples. The ME2 music also has some serious BSG touch. As a big fan of BSG i would welcome more of that

I hope we will get the "So say we all!" dialogue option at some point. I would laugh like hell

So i am optimistic that we will get our unique time with Ashley, not just some gotime at the end.
