I was looking more at the teased hair, heavily glossed lips, eyeshadow, etc. This is admittedly thrown more into contrast with other female personnel when you realize she's not in uniform. In 1 and 2 she was believably an Alliance Marine. In this, unless they dragged her off a HAWT date and she hadn't gotten into uniform yet (which I doubt) I'm left wondering at the radical makeover.

P.S. Not as sexist as you might think, ask me about the problem with women in front-line combat units sometime. The reasoning isn't what you'd expect ;)

I'd be kind of mad too if I decided to hate a character then she got even more hot later on.

Was she already a commisioned officer in ME2?

I'm not sure how enlisted jump into commissioned officer ranks but maybe anderson promoted her because of her service on the normandy.

No, she was still a noncom. Gunnery Chief in ME1, Operations Chief in ME2. It is a big jump, but that's the only inconsistancy with it. Age isn't the issue, since she's not too awful much younger than Shepard, who is a Lt. Commander at 29, which does happen in real life (real life not being one of my personal concerns here). Her jump in rank is something that doesn't bother me in a game about giant sentient warships with god-complexes and Borg/genocidal tendancies. The thought would have breezed through my head and left unnoticed if people didn't harp on about it endlessly on the forums.

*edit: The big difference with Shepard was that he was presumably already on an officer's career path, while Ashley got bumped up to officer after being a non com for most of her career.

Hm. I'm pretty sure she looked like the pic on the left when I played on the 360. Welp. Guess I'll have to play again...darn.

Yep, same here. Played the 360 version, and she looked like the pic on the left. I think the pic on the right was from that leaked beta footage from months ago.

I think I need to clarify something, here. I'm not against how she looks, nor do I expect it to influence how the AI makes her perform in combat. However, there was a clearly military professional style to her before, that has been radically altered. Somehow I doubt it's just for noncombat operations, so I'm left a little curious about the sudden make-over. Is that a more palatable statement for all those offended by my grossly harsh and offensive statements? (Still think she looks like a high priced hooker.

And Badpie, that's BADLY teased hair. Makes me want to reach for a heavy duty set of clippers...

Update:

Wife agrees with me that she looks like Ashley's wearing enough warpaint to take on the entire 5th fleet.

Anyone else notice a difference in the Ashley's eyes between the 360 and PC?

There's a difference? Screens plz?

Fedorcyclops wrote...

I am curious can you romance Ashley in ME 3 without romancing her in ME1?

some said yes, some said no. I am a bit confuse.
any confirmation from the Dev/Bioware?

Yes you can. That also applies on Liara - you can start a new romance with her if you want.

Not sure about Garrus and Tali, but Miranda, Jack, Jacob and Thane can not be romanced in ME3. Either you import a romance with one of those four characters - in that case you continue their romances - or you can't.

Right is from the leaked version a while back. Left is from the most recent demo we got. Huge difference, but that pic is misleading... maybe on purpose. You PC elitists. Posted Image

let's see, lip gloss to 'highlight her business assets'
Plenty of blush to give her cheeks a rosy look
HEAVY eyeshadow trying for that smokey 'C'mere big guy' look
and plenty of mascara.

Those are the WIFE'S assessments. Yes, underneath the warpaint she's gorgeous. Never argued that, but I have to wonder at the presentation that she can't be beautiful without it.

Lip gloss and eye shadow are only worn to attract men?  Hm.  I didn't know that.  Here I thought that every single woman I have ever known put on some eyeliner and lipstick to look good and feel good.  I had no idea that it all meant "come here big guy."  Next time I'm at the grocery store and I see a woman wearing some mascara I'll do the right thing and tell her she's a "hooker with a box of mac n cheese."

Next time I'm in a meeting with business woman and they're wearing heels and lipstick I'm going to tell them how weird it is that they would wear that for their job.

EDIT:  I just realized the photo manip I did makes her look like Mimi from The Drew Carey Show.  Lol

It's really not a big deal. She looked horrid in the leaked build, but she looks awesome in the demo and will probably look even better in the final game.

lol seems to be a big deal for some people. I'm catching fire like charging a machine gun nest in the open. Some people seem to think this has somehow made her 'hotter' which I don't see, she's no more or less hot than she was before. She was my favorite character in ME1 was one of the few people I was GLAD to see in ME2 (Wrex being the other)

You can continually exaggerate my position all you like, it's not going to alter my position and quite frankly, I'm getting tired of trying to clarify it to someone who quite obviously just wants to harass me for it.

Ther's no need to exaggerate, you said she looked like a hooker with an assualt rifle. you exaggerated enough for the entire thread.

Yes I did. And at every turn when I've pointed out why, It's been overblown. I've been relatively nice about it unlike the wife who's harping in my ear like she wants to take this to the ends of the earth. Either I have been unable to adequately make my point or it has been willfully ignored. In either case, bringing an understanding of my position to those who think she should be decked out like a high priced hooker is not a worthy use of my time. So I just made a sig that'd offend all of you without me lifting a finger any more. Sorry to have bothered you with an alternate point of view.

Personally, I think she looks more mature and 'grown up' in ME3. The character has changed overtime and it makes sense given what she's gone through. I think people just have the impression that BioWare wanted to make her Miranda #2, which is obviously not the case.

The biggest difference is she let her hair down. I don't know why people act like it's illegal or that women never change their hair style.

Well she's more than welcome to make a BSN account to do so herself. My femshep Kallen has more make up on than Ashley, because I have here wear black lipstick because it goes well with her green eyes and Red hair. Bioware does not put heavy make up on it's characters. You can mod make up onto characters by changing the RGB values but in the vanilla game there's no heavy make up.

that particular hairstyle in and of itself is typically against military regs, which is why I was so very impressed with how they managed her in the first place. It requires a very careful balance to achieve a professional military look and still maintain a degree of feminine allure. That was part of what made her more attractive than other options and honestly added depth to her character for me. Guess what, I am a Marine, so I relate immediately on a very primal level to those who are also clearly Marines. The wife is too, and yes, I can almost PROMISE she'll come in shrieking with the fury of the Valkyrie when she kicks our son off the comp. (and I'll be thanking any and every Divine I can think of. I catch a lotta crap for sometimes off-center points of view, but never so much as when I'm dumb enough to play go between.)

Surprise, Surprise, no, I'm NOT just trolling. This was just the one one biggest difference I saw in the demo that stuck with me. I've made a point of avoiding as many spoilers as I can. If I'm going to experience the story, I'd rather not do it 2nd hand ;)

^ Military regs?
Afaik most of those regs apply only on ordinary soldiers and NCOs while officers have some privileges in that matter.

I don't see Ashley's new looks as "against" the regs. Sure, it's not very practical for a soldier, especially a sniper to have open hair but hey ... she surely has her reasons.

Ah. Just keep it that way. That woman is what my Shepard was waiting for years - he deserves something beautiful to look at.
Besides that: Badpie is right. She should know ... ^^

Thats not fair though because that 360 pic is from the beta when it was leaked and its obviously going to be different to the demo.

Yeah I think you're right.

I just grabbed the pic from another forum site.

Makes sense. It's not fair.

Left: realistic "alive" face ---> Right: Uncanny Valley face

I'm pretty sure XBox!ME3 doesn't have that difference - except the current ME3!demo for the 360 is an older build.

Thats bull****, your using the leaked beta from november as the x-box360 version. Be honest atleast please.

^ I didn't post this one first.
And I don't own a XBox. My PC (7y old) has a tad more power ^^

However, that issue is none: that so called comparison doesn't work since XBox!Demo & PC!Demo are a similar build.

I personally wear lip gloss or lipstick often because I get chapped lips, and I look bloodless and pale without it.  I'm not trying to appeal to potential mates, I'm just trying to look and feel good for myself.  Glossy lips don't suddenly make Ashley "trampy" looking.  Her eyeshadow and blush does look more pronounced...but compared to Default Jane Shepard, for instance, it's natural looking and subtle.

I can see why the argument could be made for having her hair up, but since I totally want that style for my Shepard, I can't really fault Ashley.  Practical or not, it's an attractive style.  I can just imagine that she pulls up her hair when she puts on her helmet.
