As far as we know her new outfit might suite her better now, it's been some time since you've had a proper chat with her and people can change. And I don't see the hooker thing at all, it's a gross exaggeration and frankly quite silly. I understand you might not like her new look, that's fine, but a little nuance wouldn't hurt either.Sevrun wrote...
that particular hairstyle in and of itself is typically against military regs, which is why I was so very impressed with how they managed her in the first place. It requires a very careful balance to achieve a professional military look and still maintain a degree of feminine allure. That was part of what made her more attractive than other options and honestly added depth to her character for me. Guess what, I am a Marine, so I relate immediately on a very primal level to those who are also clearly Marines. The wife is too, and yes, I can almost PROMISE she'll come in shrieking with the fury of the Valkyrie when she kicks our son off the comp. (and I'll be thanking any and every Divine I can think of. I catch a lotta crap for sometimes off-center points of view, but never so much as when I'm dumb enough to play go between.)
Surprise, Surprise, no, I'm NOT just trolling. This was just the one one biggest difference I saw in the demo that stuck with me. I've made a point of avoiding as many spoilers as I can. If I'm going to experience the story, I'd rather not do it 2nd hand
Also if you don't like her new hair style: she has a helmet, so it won't get in her way during combat.

Of course, the dresscode for specters (or ex, as the case may be) is probably hilarious reading.

Kallen: *thinks* This woman ... Ashley ... I forgot how beautiful she is. I definitely need to ask her for some special exercises.
Anderson: Beware of Commander Shepard, Ashley. Joker just send me this - have a read.
Ashley: What?! Shepard, what does that mean you're writing smutty texts for Fornax - with you and me as main cast?!
Kallen: *thinks* I need to kill Joker.

However all this and my dumb little fan fic does not mean that I don't like her as a character because I always did and always will.

As far as I'm concerned you're more than welcome to point out flaws, as long as it's not "She's a hooker!!".el expl0siv0 wrote...
I don't want to point out flaw with the new Ashley as I have read through some of this thread and saw dissenters get torn apart, but here it goes!Anyhow, one of my complaints (like many other people's complaints) with the new Ashley is her hair. I wonder, is anyone good with photoshop here? Could someone splice together new Ashley with old Ashley hair and see if she would look more - how should I put this - normal? Also another complaint is the, perhaps perceptual, difference in her jaw line. It all seems wider than her original look.Either way my beef is not that she isn't attractive, because I never really did find her physically attractive. My complaint is that she looks so different. So different in fact that my original theory after seeing her new look is that she volunteered for an Alliance program to mimic Miranda's genetic modification in their own soldiers.
However all this and my dumb little fan fic does not mean that I don't like her as a character because I always did and always will.
No time to throw together a photoshop atm, but it would probably end up looking rushed anyway. But what exactly do you find weird about her hair? I don't really see it.
I'd assume the jaw line is the same since they used the same facial scan as in ME1
Anyway: Random ash pic ME1
http://cloud.steampo...EE53B0182C2018/
Let;'s take the detailed one from ME3:

Maybe it's a little more accentuated by the different lighting but it doesn't seem like a real difference to me.
and apart from make-up and the new outfit she doesn't look different and those two things are explanatory I feel. We don't really know how Ash likes to dress, since we never asked, nor did we know if she likes to wear make-up. It might also be that she likes to change her looks every now and than. Now that she's a lieutentant Commander she has more room to do so. I'm not the biggest fan of the new look either, but I don't think it's beyond comprehension.

Rox: Ash, that guy just spoiled our tonight plans. He must pay!

Ofcourse they wanted to give her sex appeal, the art book even says so, but the problem is if it is explainable within the ME universe, some people feel it isn't and that could pull them out of the experience. Others, like me, feel that it is and thus it creates discussion.Complistic wrote...
Or bioware just wanted to give her sex appeal like they said. And of all the things to complain about ME, a prettier ash is so very low on that list.
And I agree it's a minor thing, but to be fair we don't have a lot else to discuss right now. Once the game comes out we will have lots of character aspects to talk about, at least we should have.

Uniform regulations are the same regardless of whether one is enlisted or an officer. Out of uniform, officers are often expected to dress in a more professional manner than enlisted(an enlisted man or woman could get away with t-shirts and jeans, however officers are expected to wear polo shirts and the like.) In a dress uniform, women are allowed to wear makeup, however, it must be natural in appearance, and not heavily applied. The smoky eye shadow and high gloss lips do not fit that description. In camouflage, BDUs, whatever you wish to call them, battle uniform regs say NO MAKEUP.
Hair length if left down is restricted to "just above the collar." Most units will translate this as barely brushing it at maximum length. Unless she was out of uniform when the call went out(which is possible) she does not appear to be following current regs when she is seen in the demo.
That being said, regs could be more relaxed in this military. I do have a few questions though. Why is she dressed differently than every other officer there? And why does Alenko's response to a female Shepard seem so much more respectful than her response to male Shepard? The gut reaction here is a Marine one - women dressed and made-up like that were the ones that were trying to sleep there way to the top.
Kinda seems like she's been objectified into just another video game sex toy, from her appearance and demeanor.
In any case, don't jump down Sev's throat just because of me balking at the new look.

Then again: today regs are today regs. Tomorrow regs are ... yes, exactly: tomorrow regs. We don't know if there are -any- regs against long hair or how you have to wear it. Since Anderson didn't mind Ashley's hair, it's either accepted or tolerated but definitely not against the rules.
For me, don't see this as a generic statement, Ash is no "sex toy" or something 'cause of her new hairstyle. She's an attractive woman and her character demands some respect. I like her the way she was and also like her new development. Also you can play the game with helmets - so you don't see Ashley's open hair in the field. Off duty or non-combat duty - and no one should mind her hair ^^

Wait...seem to recall the helmets being an issue Sev complained about in the first two. I haven't had a chance to actually play the demo(only saw him play it.) Are you saying that you can set the helmets on and off for individual characters?

I understand where you are coming from, but the regs being a bit more relaxed would go a long way to explaining why she can look as you looks. Mass Effect has never been the pinnacle of realism though and ME2 even less, and Bioware's goal has never seemed to be to make it as close to real life as possible. That said, with ME2 it feels like the series allowed itself some more leniency and I can see how that could bother some, but that's probably also what allows Ashley to look like she does and get away with it, without people in game surprised about it.IkinaShintai wrote...

She does look like the odd one out, which is weird inconsistancy and hard to explain from an in-game view, but then again we haven't seen the rest of ME3 yet, maybe there will even be some dialogue about it, so that's something that you can't really write it off on right now.Why is she dressed differently than every other officer there? And why does Alenko's response to a female Shepard seem so much more respectful than her response to male Shepard? The gut reaction here is a Marine one - women dressed and made-up like that were the ones that were trying to sleep there way to the top.

Well she's ''saved'' the galaxy with Shepard and then he died, came back from the dead and instead of being happy with him they rowed, an awful way to leave someone who's going on another suicide mission right? Meanwhile stuffs being going on when Shepard was away we don't really know about. Being the emotional gal she is, seeing him again on earth caused her to be happy, figured it was a chance to make up maybe.
And again I can understand your gut reaction, but it's one of a 21st century Marine, we don't know the reaction of a 22nd century Marine.
Well I guess I kinda said the same thing as Data...I'm a slow writer today
But yeah you can toggel helmets on or off, but I'm not sure if you can do that individually.
