Um, think about what you're saying. The council has the Asari on it, the species that embraces it's sexuality. Teh Asari councilor would probably applaud Ashley for letting her hair down and embracing her feminity. The salarian women Run their species (appointed a male councilor for some reason though) so their councilor wouldn't have much to say about Ashley's outfit, and the Turian councilor's just an ass. Also she's not "dolled up" as I've said so many times I've lost count, She's covered more than her original casual outift with left her arms exposed and that's no longer the case. Also Shepard gets a damn hoodie in this game so I'm guessing dress code goes out the window and yes Vega's tatto's and MOHAWK probbaly go against dress code as well, so there's that too.PseudoEthnic wrote...
Seeing as how she doesn't become a spectre until after the beginning of the game, her attire is incosistent with everyone else in the Alliance(at least from what we've seen.) Plus, even if she were a spectre, I would expect the council to have their specres look professional, and not dolled up.ADLegend21 wrote...
also Ashley's now a spectre. which means despite her rank of Lt. Commander she's above the rank and file and now bound by dress code regulations, so in essence, she can wear whatever she wants in and out of combat and no one can tell her to change.

If realism is your concern, her default ME1 outfit had similar issues as her ME3 look.

Ashley's new look is no less realistic than the pink and white Phoenix Armor she was wearing on Eden Prime. I don't quite get why people are harping on her hair and uniform in ME3, but were silent on the fact that she was wearing armor in ME1 with a color sheme that both lacked uniformity and made her more of a target.

Easy. You could get her out of the pink and white armor and into another outfit quickly and easily . Bioware no longer approves of this practice.

True. ME1 did have that going for it.
But I'll bet that a lot of those who complain about about Ashley's new look had her in Phoenix Armor in the end game.

True, but to be fair you can still put Ashley in full armor and a helmet when taking her into combat. Plus I'm very grateful at the removal of those white pants, and if you have the CE you can at least toggle between different colors for Ash's casual outfit.
I mean yes, Bioware are still sitting in the 'Naughty stool' for redesigning Ashley with the express purpose of giving her sex appeal rather then showcasing her as a soldier, but still... it's a start.
Also frankly I think I hate the mindset behind the outfit more then the outfit itself. While I still dislike the outfit in and of itself because I think it's just silly and kind of insulting to put Ash in it, I'm ready to overlook it if it means Ashley's back and (going by the script) the same Ashley I knew.
What I can't abide though is that in the art book the art team can flat out admit that they redesigned Ashley for sex appeal. Kaidan and Garrus and Vega all get to look tough and awesome because they are men, Ashley gets to be stylish and sexy because she's a woman. It's really jarring when you look at the two art works for Kaidan and Ashley and see how radically differently treated these characters are, especially when they are both basically equivilants for each other in terms of role in the story.
I oppose it largely because I don't like seeing my favorite female character in Mass Effect be redesigned for such purposes but also because I'm aware that this doesn't happen in a vaccuum. Female characters and fandom and franchises in general seem to be undergoing major design changes for sex appeal everywhere you look and it doesn't make nerdy fandoms look very welcoming to women for one thing and it also makes the medium look immature and juvenile for it.
I mean look at the hate surrounding the DC reboot. They turned Starfire into a hypersexualized emotionless sex crazed nympho who only seems to live for more sex, they cheapened the relationship between Batman and Catwoman by including a fan fictiony sex scene that made the last few pages of the comic feel like soft core porn and they took Amanda Waller, one of the few overweight female characters in comics obviously not made expressly to be attractive and rebooted her into yet another hot slender supermodel type.
On a visual level at least I can't help but think that BIoware is heading down a similar path, and that's what bothers me the most.

Plus, I don't play BioWare games for their 'realism', I play them for great story and charatcters, and as long as she's still the same Ash personality wise, I'll be happy.

ok... but that was her armor in ME2 and the iconic look for her in all the ME1 advertising.
And as if that wasn't enough, you can get her out of her ME3 jacket just as quickly as in ME1 and put her in actual armor if you so desire.

Everyone's happy. Except the people who are never happy.

Yeah, I'm psyched. Granted I wish like hell Ashley was in her armor but hey, it's still my favorite trio from Mass Effect 3. I have a long term plan to get all of them.
EDIT: Frankly I miss the days when the only complaint about Bioware's design for female characters in Mass Effect was Ashley wearing pink.
Those were the days.

Not really. no matter what you put her in on Virmire she's in that heavy armor that they RECYCLED on Horizon. I hate that she wears the same outfit for 2 years while everyone else gets new armors. Also Everyone's sexed up, Bioware was only blunt about it with Ashley. Vega wears less clothing than Ashley does, his is also thinner than her outfit, at least her outfit has SOME armor on it.iakus wrote...

Yeah it was her armor in ME2, for all three minutes she was on the screen. And I had a whole new set of problems with the scene which her outfit pales in comparison:P
And if I can switch out her ME3 jacket for that blue armor while she's on the Normandy, yes, I'll be happy. I really like that armor. But if I'm stuck talking to her in that jacket-outfit, no, I won't. Or rather, i'll just have to hope for a lot of head shots and few profile shots during those scenes.

We've gone over this before: It's not about skin, it's not about armor. It's about style. If we were going by sheer amount of skin shown, Samara's outfit has less sex appeal than Vega's too:lol:
Ash's outfit is being called a military uniform. A uniform uniquely designed with the sole purpose of making Ash "stylish" Me, I'd rather she had something like Kaidan's outfit. I find it stylish as well. And in a way that also says "bad**** marine" too.
Why can't I have that, and you can keep the stylish jacket?

Why would she wear hot aror that doesn't breathe when she doesn't have to? that's the point of having a casual and a combat outfit. when she's not getting shot at she's in her blue jacket outfit.
I dunno, why did Jacob, Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed, etc do so? Heck, Miranda's outfit must have really chafed after a while.
Point being, why should I be happy with an outfit I find unappealing, and yet have no choice but to have her wear?
