Why would she wear hot aror that doesn't breathe when she doesn't have to? that's the point of having a casual and a combat outfit. when she's not getting shot at she's in her blue jacket outfit.

I dunno, why did Jacob, Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed, etc do so?  Heck, Miranda's outfit must have really chafed after a while. :D

Point being, why should I be happy with an outfit I find unappealing, and yet have no choice but to have her wear?

but now they've gone back to casual and combat outfits like ME1 where she and KAidan would be on t-shirts and cargo pants on the normandy.Posted Image

If Ash can wear T-shirts and cargo pants on the Normandy, I'll withdraw all objections to the jacket.  I can live with her only wearing it in the intro.

I somehow doubt this is the case, though.

Not really. no matter what you put her in on Virmire she's in that heavy armor that they RECYCLED on Horizon. I hate that she wears the same outfit for 2 years while everyone else gets new armors. Also Everyone's sexed up, Bioware was only blunt about it with Ashley. Vega wears less clothing than Ashley does, his is also thinner than her outfit, at least her outfit has SOME armor on it.Posted Image

We've gone over this before:  It's not about skin, it's not about armor.  It's about style.  If we were going by sheer amount of skin shown, Samara's outfit has less sex appeal than Vega's too:lol:

Ash's outfit is being called a military uniform.  A uniform uniquely designed with the sole purpose of making Ash "stylish"  Me, I'd rather she had something like Kaidan's outfit.  I find it stylish as well.  And in a way that also says "bad**** marine" too.

Why can't I have that, and you can keep the stylish jacket?

Kaidan's casual outfit has been shown? Do provide a link please!!!

he wears the vanilla uniform Shepard does because he's totally boring yo
/uneducated fan opinion.

apart from the humor he does wear the same uniform as Shepard, granted he's packing WAY more muscle than he did in the first two games and he's also in the running for the "most likely to rip shirt by sneezing" superaltive with Vega.Posted Image

He's also not Ashley. We gave bioware crap fro treating Kaidan and Ashley the same because of Virmire, hell they put Kaidan in Phoenix armor in the intro of ME2 when he's alive like they do ashley, though he gets to change out of that for Horizon while Ashley stays in said phoenix armor. They have differnt outfits and different ranks, they even have different dialogues about the meeting! his is a good thing since they're going to be Ashley or Kaidan instead of "suriving human squadmate from the first game"

Woah, I missed a lot of discussion here.

@ V-Rex: you've got a point. Ashley's redesign is okay, but the mindset behind it is not. I mean, Ashley was -always- the tough, brutish and straight forward soldier with a soft spot - that hardly allowed anyone to explore said soft core.
Now BW decided to "sex her up" for the younger audience.

If BW would say: "lets keep Ash the same but change her hairstyle because she's a goddamn badass soldier that's now respected by everyone so she hasn't to go by the regs anymore!" it would fit much better to her character than "sex her up for the younglings - or Shepard".

*sigh* Sure, no one wants to see ugly women in a game (which is quite disrespectful, tbh). But sexing up every woman to a point her primary attributes & traits get clouded by the ONE "trait" - being a sex symbol - something went wrong.

And now that's funny: Ash is still no sex symbol - at least not to me. She's real. She's as real as a fictional character can become. On the street you wouldn't recognize her, since she looks "normal" and not like a super model. Even "sexing her up" didn't damage anything. She's still mean, badass and will kick you twice in the balls if you make bad comments about her hair ^^

Seriously.

Now accept she's a bit more feminine now. ^^

True, but to be fair you can still put Ashley in full armor and a helmet when taking her into combat. Plus I'm very grateful at the removal of those white pants, and if you have the CE you can at least toggle between different colors for Ash's casual outfit.
I mean yes, Bioware are still sitting in the 'Naughty stool' for redesigning Ashley with the express purpose of giving her sex appeal rather then showcasing her as a soldier, but still... it's a start.

Also frankly I think I hate the mindset behind the outfit more then the outfit itself. While I still dislike the outfit in and of itself because I think it's just silly and kind of insulting to put Ash in it, I'm ready to overlook it if it means Ashley's back and (going by the script) the same Ashley I knew.
What I can't abide though is that in the art book the art team can flat out admit that they redesigned Ashley for sex appeal. Kaidan and Garrus and Vega all get to look tough and awesome because they are men, Ashley gets to be stylish and sexy because she's a woman. It's really jarring when you look at the two art works for Kaidan and Ashley and see how radically differently treated these characters are, especially when they are both basically equivilants for each other in terms of role in the story.

I oppose it largely because I don't like seeing my favorite female character in Mass Effect be redesigned for such purposes but also because I'm aware that this doesn't happen in a vaccuum. Female characters and fandom and franchises in general seem to be undergoing major design changes for sex appeal everywhere you look and it doesn't make nerdy fandoms look very welcoming to women for one thing and it also makes the medium look immature and juvenile for it.
I mean look at the hate surrounding the DC reboot. They turned Starfire into a hypersexualized emotionless sex crazed nympho who only seems to live for more sex, they cheapened the relationship between Batman and Catwoman by including a fan fictiony sex scene that made the last few pages of the comic feel like soft core porn and they took Amanda Waller, one of the few overweight female characters in comics obviously not made expressly to be attractive and rebooted her into yet another hot slender supermodel type.

On a visual level at least I can't help but think that BIoware is heading down a similar path, and that's what bothers me the most.

I mostly agree, although I'm in a way glad the art team can admit they redesigned Ash for sex appeal, I'd be a lot more bothered if they said they gave it to her for any other purpose, because they would be lying. At least they are honest, even if I don't like the mindset and I don't get the feeling they really bothered to see how well it would fit the character. It still fits, but barely.

And about Vega, they obviously went for sex appeal too with the bulky muscles and the skintight shirt, but it's harder for me too judge if the sexing up is equal for both genders or not since I'm not female or gay and don't clearly know how they experience it.

And again I can believe Ash could want to wear something like that, it's just not what I imagined or a lot of us probably imagined and thus a little harder too adjust too. In the end I can live with it fine though.

(Also reading what they did with the DC reboot makes me glad once again that I haven't read any of it, I have no desire to read it and hope they realise the entire idea was a big mistake..Posted Image)

Guess we simply should cut the chatter about Ashley's new appearance until we see how it plays out in the final game. I think the guys who read the spoilers know there's at least one scene where Ashley's new looks get a nod or two - so maybe that one should help in the end.

On the other side I'm glad we have a debate going here ... that prevents this thread dying before ME3 gets released. Especially since we moved lots of dialogue to a fitting groupe. (I just wish more people would write stuff there) ^^

They also could make those uniforms with real fabric so you can remove them and have a naked Ashley ...
Wait - I didn't say that loud, right?

Ashley: ... what?
Shepard: Something wrong, Ash?
Ashley: Those fans ... especially this one - wants an Action Figure with real fabric clothes so he can strip down a figure that looks like me to see her naked? Weirdo.
Shepard: Mind you if I strip you down?
Ashley: *rolls eyes* Skip ...

OMG... OF COURSE he does!!!

he gets an appropriate outfit to wear when not suited up for combat... and Ashely doesn't. Such a load of bull****!

The difference here, to me anyway, is that... sure they went for the manly, seriously buff appeal here with Vega. HOWEVER, he still gets to look like appropriate when not in combat armor and it's actually something that soldiers would wear while still being in the "sex appeal" category.

Yeah, sorry about that, Aurora. I should have asked. Won't happen again.

@Data
Nice one.

Here, have a dialogue.

femShep: Joker, set a course for Ilos.
Joker: Aye, aye. Course laid in, ETA 6 hours.
Ashley: We better get some rest. Tomorrow's gonna be busy.

*later in the cockpit*

femShep: friendly: Joker.
Joker: Aw, ****! Commander, don't sneak up on me like that.
femShep: suspicious: You were so focused on... watching *raises eyebrows* Blasto XXX edition.
Joker: Err... it's not... I mean...
*Ashley walks in*
Ashley: Hey, Skipper. Joker.
femShep: concerned: Hey, Ash. You look tired.
Ashley: Yeah. Couldn't sleep so I spent some time with Garrus, sparring. He's got reach. But I had flexibility.
*they both glance at Joker who appears to sit frozen in his seat*
femShep: with amusement: Yeah, I know what you mean. Turians like to think how tough they're. But they still don't last that long.
Joker: Could you two stop that, please? Gives me creeps.
femShep: genuine query: How long till we get to Ilos, Joker.
Joker: About 20 minutes, Commander.
Ashley: What's our plan, Skipper?
femShep: sincerely excited: Shoot stuff, find Saren, shoot him too, be back before the dinner.
Ashley: Sounds good. But... err... Shepard?
femShep: curious: Yes, Ash.
Ashley: You know... you're talking... quite funny.
femShep: confused: What.
Joker: Yeah, like an elcor. It's really freaky, you know.
femShep: with barely contained anger: What are you talking about.
*Liara walks in*
Liara: with embarrassment: I... I'm afraid I forgot to tell you something, Shepard.
Joker+Ashley: o.O

@Igib; Again, the elcor thing, I don't know why but it makes me giggle. Posted Image

Sorry Data; can't resist posting about outfit...Posted Image
@Reed; I get that, but what I'm trying to get at is that I believe they had the same intent with Vega as with Ash, even if the execution is different and I would agree better in Vega's case. No soldier would wear just a shirt when going in to combat just like no soldier would wear Ashley's outfit into combat.

But I have the feeling that 170 years into the future people won't regard Ashley's outfit as very different from Vega's. and if she gets into a combat situation you could argue she could easily put some protective part over some vital parts of her outfit, just like vega. The thing is neither of them will and both can wear armour instead.

You can argue Ashley doesn't fit in with the Alliance uniforms and I would agree, it's the main gripe I have with the outfit, but that really is a minor thing and something that's, as far as we know, really noticable for only aprox. 15 seconds in the game maybe.

Let me put it this way, would Vega helping Shepard aboard the Normandy (when escaping earth) in his T-shirt look less silly than Ashley in her outfit? Not really, both could easily be taken out by one bullet to the chest.

No, but my money is on 12" aka 1/6.
At least I hope so.

Ashley is for Shepard what you are for me, Gabby. - Well thanks, Kenneth, but what do you want to tell me? - I love you, Gabby. - Oh c'mon, I don't believe you. We're friends for how long? 6 years? - Yeah, and I love you now. - Uhh ... okay? That kinda comes out of the blue. - I know. I'm just not good in this. - Like Commander Shepard with Ashley? - Exactly.

Did they test reach & flexibility in that way? Maybe they did. Or maybe they didn't. Maybe Ash was only teasing Joker? Questions, questions. Well, what do you think the answer is? ;)

And don't worry, Liara's fine. Let's just say that the Joining had some unexpected side effects. Or so she believes. But is it really true? You'll see in the next dialogue.

@Aurora
If I write something with Rox again, I'll pm it to you first. I'm not a writer, but after reading so many great dialogues here, I wanted to contribute something. It's easy to write Ash+femShep, so I'll stick to it for now. But I have to admit, there's something tempting about Rox...

And now for something completely different.

Shepard: Heya. You free tonight?
Ashley: I am now. Just filed away the last report for the day. Why?
Shepard: Because my mother-dearest sent me a extranet-message. She's on the Citadel now and would like to have dinner tonight. So, are you game?
Ashley: She's on the Citadel?
Shepard: I think she's just there for a visit with dad.
Ashley: That's my point. She's an admiral with enormous responsibility or something like that, right? Both of them are.
Shepard: It's their anniversary. She makes sure that she doesn't do anything work related today.
Ashley: But if it's their anniversary, shouldn't it just be those two... unless you're pulling my leg.
Shepard: It also happens to be my birthday in a few days too. So -
Ashley: Oh, I gotcha. Two birds with one stone.
Shepard: Pretty much.
Ashley: Ok. I'm game. Just gotta find something nice to wear.
Shepard: Hey, whatever happened to that teal green dress you had?
Ashley: Ripped the side.
Shepard: The blue halter-neck.
Ashley: Broke the zipper.
Shepard: .... the black one?
Ashley: ... it's been worn so much it's falling apart at the seams.
Shepard: Damn! I liked that one.
Ashley: I know you did.
Shepard: So, do you have anything, or are you just gonna wear what you're wearing?
Ashley: Don't worry. I'll find something.
Shepard: Good. 'Cause while I'm partial to this... finely-tailored ensemble here? I would rather you wear a real dress.
Ashley: *sarcasm* Gez. Thanks...
Shepard: *oblivious* You're welcome. :)

Shepard: Garrus, on a word.
Garrus: Yes, Commander?
Shepard: I know you're the guy with the reach. But I say it only once: don't test Ashley's flexibility. That's my job.
Garrus: Oh, no problem, Commander. I think Tali's flexibility is much better than Ashley's anyways.
Shepard: ... what?
Garrus: Exactly.
Shepard: That screams for a contest.
Tali: What "contest"?
Ashley: Yeah, what "contest"? That "flexibility contest" again I won against Liara, Miranda and Jack?
Shepard: WHAT?!
Garrus: See, you're not the first one with that idea ...
