To be fair we should never count anything the player character can wear. The player's customization options are wide, and gets added with marketing DLC that do not make sense with lore.
I just wish bioware would stick to their mandate of fixing their military mistakes. If they feel embarrassed about soldier saluting wrong, they should feel embarrassed about other big mistakes as well.
The whole "its the future things are different" argument holds little weight when the devs themselves acknowledge the problems as mistakes.
soldier saluting witht he right hand will never change, regulations however, will. Hell 100 years ago you wouldn't find a woman in any military, yet now women are allowed to be on the front lines. there's also her spectre cisoderation/status that goes into play, or Anderson giving her leeway since he's probbaly responsible for the VS's rise to Commander/Major.
That's an awful lot of assumptions there Legend.
I've always just kind of figured that in the game, in this fictional universe there is definitely an element of realism, but not so much that I'm bothered by the odd ranking system in the military or someone saluting with the wrong hand or even a female soldier's hair being down. It's different. All of it, either because they just decided to make it that way or because they didn't really know how it is in real life specifically. Either way I feel like it works.
If they were directly making a game about 2012 American military they would need to be accurate in all the ways. But this is kind of their own world they've created so we're supposed to just assume all of this is normal.
As far as Ashley's uniform goes, compared to Alenko's it does look a little out of place, but really I think that's the coloring. I wonder why they made her blue more vibrant than the darker tones of the actual Alliance uniforms. Kaidan also looked far more casual than Ashley. She's even wearing gloves (which I think is a little weird tbh). They could have at least put Kaidan in his dress uniform or something, something like Anderson's jacket. I'm not complaining but seeing the two side by side does make me wonder.
As for regs and the outfit, no one knows anything about anything, but I think it's safe to assume that within the confines of this universe if what Ashley was wearing was against regulations in any way she probably wouldn't be wearing it. Taking all of our own personal opinions aside - the game designers have determined that this particular outfit is most definitely within the standard look of things.
Yeah, I mean the rest is all speculation until the game comes out so we can't really say.
