They're basically the Badass Battle Couple per definition.

You rarely find any other couple that works & fits the same way. And those few you find are usually quite awesome and incredible sexy.

Also it's quite amazing how real they look. I mean, they're just CGI characters - and still they look like real beings. Wow.

I gotta say, though not directly Ash Related. I love how Shepard literally 'kicks' off the fighting in the CGI trailer. Look. The very first fight scene when the music starts to crescendo, Shepard literally starts the action off with a 'This is Sparta' style kick.

I am so delighted to see Ashley featuring in this trailer. I wasn't expecting it at all. What a lovely surprise! It makes me think that all these years in the wilderness were really worth it and ME3 is going to be an amazing experience for fans of Ashley and Kaidan!

N7 is basically the Alliance's answer on STG & Asari Commandos. That's an Elite Special Unit designed to do the job if everyone else failed.

Not to get too O/T, but that isn't really what a special operations unit is for. While there is occasionally some mission overlap between conventional military units and special operations units, generally they are different tools for different tasks.

Say you had a town sitting on a strategic crossroads that needed to be seized, but was occupied by a battalion of enemy soldiers. That mission would go to conventional military forces (infantry, likely backed by armor, artillery & air support) rather than special operations, though it is possible that special operations could be utilized in support of the conventional military forces carrying out the assault. 

Typical missions for Special Operations units would be long range recon, hostage rescue, counter terrorism, unconventional warfare (such as aiding resistance groups against a common enemy), direct action (examples include the killing of Bin Laden, and the Norwegian raid on the German heavy water plant at Telemark in WW2), search & rescue for downed pilots, ect.

Anyway, Ashley looks hot in the recent trailer. And I love the new armor.

True. The series -began- with Ash in a CGI trailer and now it ends with her.
Makes sense to me.

@ Han Shot: of course. However, when do you call the Spec Ops? When either everything else failed already - or when everything else you have on your disposal WILL fail if used. So it's still the same. If you can go in with a 4 man squad and expect to win the day, you'll pick that squad instead of a full army that might fail the same task.

Not quite.

In the example I used of the town on the crossroads, if the assault was initially repulsed and the attacking unit suffered too many casualties that it was impractical for them to assault the town again, they'd be relieved by another infantry unit. The job of assaulting and seizing the town wouldn't fall to Special Operations unit.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are some tasks that Special Operations units are better at, and some that conventional military units are better at. While there is occasionally some mission overlap between conventional military forces and special operations units, in general they have different roles on the battlefield that they each are better suited for.

Do you know what that means? Ash is Shepard's XO ^^ No Liara, no Miranda, no Garrus - just Ashley. Or Kaidan for others. Kaidan & Ash as XO for Shepard? That's full of win.

It  would be better if WE could decide who our XO is.

^ as long as it's not stated anywhere, feel free to pick your XO for roleplay purposes. ^^

But I got the feeling the VS is intended as Shepard's XO. After all they were supposed to replace Shepard as CO on board of the Normandy, right? ^^

I think that Ash and Shepard might trade command throughout the story. Ash may take command during some missions while Shepard is otherwise indisposed, and other times, Shepard's obviously in control.

Yeah but he becomes a Spectre probaly agian and there both probaly willing to listen to him since he was always in charge unless they trade places or some command story instead of always taking lead and ingoring Undina or the Illusive man

Of course Ash deserves to be XO, It's hard to find anyone who fits this role better, but this choice is, umm, pointless. What I mean - I always take her with me, so generally both commanders are out of ship. XO needs to be on board when Shep is away. Joker was in charge during collector attack, seems like helmsman is the 3rd person on Normandy.

Pressly, who was experienced navigator, was great as XO on SR1. My money is on Adams then - devs said something about great comebacks of the old crew, maybe he's included.

@Han Shot First - Kaidan as Major does, but I'm not sure if Ashley outranks him. Is lieutenant commander above commander?

Spectre status isn't a military rank though. It is a seperate chain of command than the Alliance military. Nihlus for example, wasn't commanding the Normandy in ME1.

*If* Kaidan or Ashley outranks Shepard, there better be a very good explanation as to why Shepard is still the commanding officer of the Normandy. Otherwise it is bad writing.
