Regarding ME3's slight change of look I don't think its really become any less latina or barely, if you find other pics of Ash from ME1 depending on the lighting she looks just like ME3 Ash. Take the pics above, one is bright lighting (ME3 pic) making her look pastier while the ME1 pic has a darker lighting going on inside the Normandy.

Take these pics for instance (ME1, ME2, ME3):
i44.tinypic.com/1zyei6c.jpg

On another note when I first played ME1 all those years ago it  never crossed my mind Ashley had some latina in her, it was only when I  started reading posts on various forums, etc that I noticed people saying she was. I can now see what everybody means and agree.

EDIT: Added link

Funny. I saw her as Latina from day one when I romanced her the first time. Maybe because of that combination of eyes and brows? Also her hairstyle reminds me of a woman with hints of hispanic influence.

I really love this woman. She matured a lot within those 3 years in-Universe ... and she's one of the most beautiful natural-looking woman in game history.

I can see the Latina and Williams is a very American name. I always saw Ash as a mixture of different ethnicities. To show that humans don't have as clear ethnic lines as today.
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the U.S., Canada, and Mexico consolidate into the North American Union (or something like that) in the lore of Mass Effect. So with that merger it is easy for cultures to merge together.

Doesn't even look like Ashley. At all. Are the folks who made this CGI trailer blind or something?

The CGI trailer for ME2 showed TIM and Miranda, and they looked way different, way more severe than in this trailer imo.

She looks too good in any case

It's just fanon, but ...

In my idea Ashley has a really widespread family tree. At least one branch reaches back to General Robert E. Lee. Several branches point towards persons in Spain, France and Germany as well as one goes back to an Australian family *looks at our own Miss Williams* :P

So she comes with a quite mixed heritage. Ash is stubborn and straight forward and sometimes difficult to understand. But she's also a very loving person once you know her better.

Something entirely different:

Well, being latina(o) automatically means you have a mixed heritage, with very small exceptions. But kudos to you for making up such an inventive back story for Ash.

CGI is going to make characters look different. It is a different system then what ME1,2, or 3 uses so it's understandable. Even Sheploo looks different imo.

Ash fans have been waiting for Ash to be a part of a trailer for 5 years. The fact that she is in a trailer and being mentioned in advertising is a huge step up from the absolute silence during ME2. Ash and Kaidan fans were under-appreciated around here for a long time. It's amazing the progress from wondering if the Ash/Kaidan will even be in ME3 to being in ME3 first TV spot.

Edit:
@CptData: I read so much fanfic about Mass Effect that it all runs together. lol That is one famous family tree!

Yeah, I know, and I don't understand it. They get the male characters right, but the females always end up looking like barbie. Either this is done on purpose to draw in the predominantly male audience, or the team who made this trailer have no idea how to render women.

Maybe a bit of both?

I think for the most part its the old "sex sells" thing, and indeed it does. I would say they took the new Ash and just tried to make her as perfect as possible.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I don't think she looks that far apart from in game. I think they did a superb job with ther armor and hair. Also a wild theory here but a factor to this may be they have a actual face to base Shepard off of (Vanderloo), but with Ash they only have the in game model.

So, according to your fanon. Ashley is from my family line? Well - that's fine by me. Specially cause that means she now has some celtic in her too.;):P

Shepard is pleased. B)

Actually, I was playing with that idea to reconstruct a full family tree for Ashley. Never finished it, but some facts are considered as "good base for more" in my little fanon!universe. Think it's -very- plausible Ashley's family tree has some famous military persons in its branches. Robert E. Lee is just the most famous one.
Also - just for the irony, Shepard's own family tree contains a branch that goes back to Joshua Chamberlain ... one of the Colonels of the Potomac Army that defeated Lee in the Battle of Gettysburg. That also explain the constant fights in Ashley-Shepard relationships ... sort of. Nah. Not really. But at least it adds some southern temperament to Ashley, right?

According to Aurora, Shepar has also a very strong Irish influence in his family.
I support this theory.

Now I wish I played ME on PC so I could play with the rest of you guys :(

I've been playing the demo all weekend. I'm level 47, and I better not lose the stuff I unlocked when I start to play the actual game though. >_>

I unlocked a krogan! I mean c'mon... You can't take that away from me!

No, not really.
But I really grew fond of my Soldier that uses a Widow and a Mattock - and charges into battle like a Krogan. That guy is unstoppable!

We see us once ME3 is out, right? ;)

Flattering as that is to say, Data. I didn't actually say that. I said my specific head canon has a huge Irish-Scottish background influence (mother is irish, daddy is scottish) but over all, he's very celtic.

He has more a number of generations back, but my head canon has his mother as an earthborn - didn't know her parents, didn't want to know them. While the father is estranged from the rest of his family (they're bankers -.- ).

@MegaBad: I know what you mean. I unlocked the Krogan in the first pack I bought. As a Krogan you rule the battlefield. Sadly I doubt they will let us keep the stuff we unlocked in the demo. :(

Okay, I just remembered your Shepard has some -really- strong Irish blood in his veins. That's all of it.
I like it ... :) that's why I keep it that way. His fam is less broken than yours, however.

Also I like overall the theory Ash /& Shep both have history - not just what we see on screen plus what we can find in the books, the Wiki etc, but also some stuff that's -pure- fanon. Hey, remember when we started talking about their hobbies? Ash & Shep enjoy doing that family tree stuff. Ashley is writing poems but fails, while Shepard also is a writer who never can finish one of his projects. Ashley is addicted to caffeine, Shepard is playing guitar. And all that stuff ...

Didn't find a better one.
Those Phantoms are -real- downers. Extremely hard to hit at close, med or long range. And they seem to be immune against freeze ... ouch. At least a skilled close combat fighter can dispatch them easily. Also Mattock fails here.

I love the Mattock since it feels and plays like an M1 Garand. I'm -very- used to that weapon from CoD 1 & CoD 2 gaming, therefore I'm quite good with that one.
The Widow is okay and I often find myself using it in close combat - just before charging into the fray with close combat.

Yeah, guys. Surprise, surprise. My Origin name is Aurora313. Ok?

@ Data. Yeah. I purposely tried to make a Shepard with as bad a background as possible despite having the Spacer/Warhero thing. :P

I'm evil.
