In order to get out of the Mars discussion let me ask you guys something. How do you think Ashley would react to your Shepard going after any of the ME2 li's?
It’s evident, that Ashley truly loved Shepard, if he pursued her in ME1. So she’ll be heartbroken, obviously. That he doesn’t want her the way she still wants him. How she’ll handle it? Most likely bottle it up, and concentrate on the war. That’s what she does - buries things. If Shepard starts acting d*ckish towards her, or ignores her like he couldn’t give a care in the world, then she’ll get over it a lot faster, and old wounds will heal as they say.
After horizon, it sort of was explicit that she didn't see him the same way. Clearly there has to be some degree of penance from both of them. No matter whom you romanced in ME2, it's set up so no romance can occur (with the exception of Jack's renegade sex, but you have to recruit her first) before Horizon occurs.
Ashley just doesn't understand the situation. She's been left in the dark. It's more of, she doesn't know what to believe anymore, especially when Shepard comes back. That just goes against everything in her good book.
On Horizon, Ashley lost the plot, got herself worked up, and did the easiest thing - lash out. The e-mail afterwards,
basically said that she still thinks about him, prayed for him everyday after he was gone, and is willing to try and fix things in the future. She knows Shepard's doing the right thing, but doesn't trust Cerberus, and never will. There's still old feelings there, if there wasn't, she wouldn't even bother wasting her time on an apology. We'll that's my take on it anyway.
