You do realize you're supposed to be saving the galaxy? Kinda precludes long-term relationship plans.

Shepard needs something tangible to fight for. Sure, you could argue that he's fighting for the galactic community or maybe just human advancement, but those are abstract things and us humans don't do so well with abstractness. Shepard needs something concrete to look forward to and the safety and well being of another human tends to be an extremely good motivator if you see yourself up against impossible odds all the time.
Also, even if wether Shepard nor Ashley talk openly about long term relationship plans that's most likely what they have in mind. Or do you believe they think: "OH I HOPE WE MAKE IT THROUGH THIS FINAL MISSION SO WE CAN MAYBE SPEND A FEW WEEKS TOGETHER
BEFORE WE INEVITABLY BREAK UP ; OH WELL WHAT CAN YOU DO, RIGHT SHEPSHEP?"

That said, I don't think this new dolled up look meshes very well with the character as presented in the previous games. I'm left thinking I know your face, but you're NOT my Ashley. Make-up is for people seeking someone else's approval, and to paraphrase the woman, "It takes a special kind of thinkheaded to go into a career where you're already blacklisted." She didn't need that kind of approval from anyone. So who the hell is this?
(Flame me all you like, it's not going to change my belief that they're cheapening her up to sell her to the masses)

From the viewpoint of a military mind... That is a distraction I wouldn't need/want as it warps every other decision I'm going to make and I know it. I wouldn't expect that particular branch of conversation particularly when Ash mentions that exact issue in ME1 after the you save her and leave Alenko on Virmire. That's something best put aside until after the ****storm has passed in my opinion.
You may require something tangible to fight for. I don't. or if you want tangible.... umm, survival sounds REALLY good, I like that reason to fight regardless of whether I get a lifetime supply of Ashley or not.

"This is who I am, if you like it.... Good." Kinda woman. ME2: Import a save where she was a LI from ME1 and as far as I was concerned she blew everyone else away. The conversation almost hurt, but the mail sent afterward went a long way to explaining her reaction for those too slow to understand and was still something in her character to do.

Aye, Imma go with the ash/shep pairing too even though horizon was tough for them both mentally and psyically they are good couple together and have understood each other through eye contact and death glares sometimes bumslap but that's just ash though becuase we all know she likes that ass she loved it since eden prime after shepard went "SWWWWWWWOSH NO LOVE" and saved her from the beacon so i think they should get married because there is nobody else that would fit as a good as ash and shep to be honest and my shepard needs her to stay sane even though ashley's new look makes him insane because she's a very pretty lady now that bioware sexed her up for the new players.

She was awesome without it. one of a very few women I've seen look GOOD in a uniform in a game OR the real world. Saying she's a pretty lady now implies she wasn't before and somehow needs that warpaint to be attractive. I wasn't aware she was looking for Turians tbh

Of course Shepard fights for his own survival too. But you have to consider what he's been through until now. Depending on Shepards background and decisions, he can experience a lot of traumatic events, disappointments and tragedies and that stuff just wears him down little by little until suddenly... surviving and living on doesn't sound all that nice anymore.
^
That's without anyone's headcanon.... My Shepard's already emotionally screwed when ME1 started. It's a downward spiral for him.
edit: Not to mention, he's already suicidial.

So.. Straight after the war do you think Ash'll just go: "Right I'm off to see my fam Tata!" and Shepard will be left all lonely and sh*t with Garrus and Prothy

Nice has nothing to do with the military mindset, something they went a long way to try imparting in the first one, and something they toyed with trying to remind you of in the demo. We do a lot of things that are not nice, or just plain ugly. We're trained to keep pushing, keep hammering, to drag the enemy down by any means necessary. What I saw out of ME1 implies the same of the Alliance Marines, that they are based in no small part on the British Royal and U.S. Marines. Yes, they're going to adjust to help nonmilitary relate, but I don't see them going THAT far.
I didn't discuss long term plans with the other half of my Battle Couple before I deployed, or while I was out there. Wouldn't have made it without her after I got back either. Shep and Ash are not that kind of squishy needy people.
They're Marines.

I am of the belief that Ash just wants to feel good in her skin. She has obviously matured a lot since we first met her and along with that came a change of personal style. Putting on a little make up in the morning and wearing form fitting clothes doesn't mean she's on a husband hunt or trying to get a promotion by showing her superiors a little cleavage.
Makeup = Maturity now?
I'll spare you the verbal assault I endured for even uttering that statement aloud in front of my wife at 4 am. Ok, I'm going to catch hell
"Makeup is for little girls to play with. Sure it's fun to get dressed up every once in a while but Pfffft."
Her EXACT words. Send your hatemail to IkinaShintai and spare the messenger.

I agree. Especially when Kaidan looks like an officer, but Bioware needed to sex Ashley up to offer her to the new players. Still... at least she's got armor. Thats the one thing I can say.

Yeah, unlike Miranda's funbags in ME2. Felt REALLY weird walking around in heavy armor with her prancing around in a casual uniform. Find myself curious how they're going to explain away her radical make over or if they'll even try, if she's supposed to be Alliance military I have a hard time believing it won't come up.

The awesome kind? I don't really don't wtf a trope is...
A TV trope is like a cliche or catagorical designation for certain events.
Shepley for example. They are a couple, and they are both soliders whom fight, ergo, they are referred to as a 'Battle Couple'. Ash spent the majority of her career trying to grandfather's name, therefore she is an 'Atoner'.
They're cliched plot points. Go to TVtropes.org if you want the finer details.
oh I see...
Then can you translate? because I'm pretty certain I don't.
you go to that website tv tropes and you find descriptions of different types of characters in games/movies, etc and Ashley fits the "atoner" role b/c she's always trying to clear her family name.
Stuff like that.

I have a plan, man. Close your eyes and imagine it. I've done it so many times now, that I'm no longer excited for ME3, because it's already here, and better than Bioware ever could've done it. Did I mention that Ashley is wearing a proper officers uniform? SHE IS. >_>

lol no worries, she's already going back to sleep and I still have all my extremities. My beef with it is simply that it doesn't mesh with how the character has been presented up to this point imo. In any event, I've got an interview in a few hours and should REALLY get some sleep. Yawning is not good when suggesting that someone should employ me.
