Shepard should apologize for saving humanity

Lets ignore the fact the entire Collector-story arc wasn't really "saving humanity" but a few thousand lives in the Terminus Systems ...

Remember Shepard's words: "saving humanity NOT on expense of my species soul" - didn't he say something like this? Cerberus is dealing with the fiend, every single day of their existence. And so did Shepard in ME2.

In my eyes Shepard carried the "Idiot Ball" for the entire length of ME2. After all, what exactly stopped him to cut any connections to Cerberus and doing it rogue? All he had to do was to kick the Cerberus guys off his ship and contact Anderson. Talk with him, get a special assignment as Spectre, whatever. He -had- the opportunity - at least I can't see why Shepard didn't pick that option (true: BW never included that option, but lets stay in!univers ...).

Working for Cerberus, regardless of the goal(s) is not worth it. And TIM proved it in ME1 AND ME2. And he'll prove it in ME3 as well.

Don't need to mention I'm not a big fan of ME2!story since it really lacks some logic ... but it's there, we have to deal with it. Shepard worked for / with Cerberus. And from Ashley's PoV, he worked for an enemy, violating his oath to the Alliance military. Shepard should count himself lucky Ashley didn't capture him.

Saving humanity is not the point. As far as Ashley is concerned, he betrayed his oath to the Alliance by working with a known terrorist cell. He's compromised and he can't be trusted. Quite frankly, I would have prefered if he EARNED his tags back. Y'know, like in Battlestar Galactica with Athena. She's a former enemy agent, but she earned her place back on the Galactica.

But still, in Ashley's eyes he's still a traitor. He needs to earn back credibility with her before he can even think of resuming their relationship.

Dude I want the hoodie and leather jacket IRL. From what I heard we should get an outfit for all squadies with the DLC but no clue if its causal or armor, plus I'm sure there will be alt pack like ME2 later.

He's not actually a traitor in her eyes. She even tells him she didn't mean some of the things she said back on horizon.

Lets pick the compromise: Ash supports Shepard that he -does- something against the Collectors.
But she's still not very fond of him doing the job with / for Cerberus. She still believes it's a treacherous act.
I guess Ash took back the more personal stuff ... especially regarding their past relationship.

Overall I think Ashley is right, Horizon+Letter, while Shepard has to do the next step to regain her trust.

TOTALLY going for the hoodie.

I want the leather jacket. Failing that, I'm getting the CE for the 360, so the hoody would be okay too.

I think is Ash upset with Shep for working with Cerb in ME2, but she understands why he is doing it. She know that no one believes that there is a threat to all humanity. The council states this is a human problem and not in their jurisdiction. The Alliance is not sure what is going on and has to invesigate, but they feel its Cerberus fault, and we know how long the government takes to do anything with all its red tape and jumping through hoops. I think Ash will have some suspitions about Shep being Pro-Cerb, but if she loves the man like she states she does, deep down she know Shep and that he would never willing work for Cerb if he had a choice. ME2 was pretty much the lesser of 2 evils, the enemy of my enemy is my friend as long as I can trust them.

Hole in your logic Miranda, Jacob, EDI, entire were loyal to Cerberus and TIM not Shepard. He needed what they knew he was not idiot during ME2 he did what he had and wasn't to happy about it. Cerberus had the tech and the people (dossiers/reaper iff) to navigate the Omega 4 Relay let's not forget the location of the Shadow Broker. We needed specialists not random Alliance members.
I really love Ashley very dearly but you can't just excuse her of everything and put it all on Shepard.
Without Cerberus lets see how ME3 would look: No advanced Normandy, No EDI, no war assets from surviving members, I could just go on.

Firstly, can we stop with the Shepard casual outfit talk? That's not about Ashley... unless you wanna talk about how you want to see her in that leather jacket with a motorcycle helmet on, leaning against her bike and then taking her helmet off and flipping her hair shampoo commercial style... erm... where was I?

and secondly... those outfits are terribly out of place in Mass Effect.

See, TNS: I would love to concur with you: but Shepard acted not like that, not a bit. Yes, he had his arguments with TIM, but didn't change anything.
The only time when Shepard acted like you tell me was in LotSB when he had the "breakdown light" while talking to Liara in the loft. Without that DLC, you won't see that at all.
And the only time when Shepard -truly- did something to get detached from Cerberus was at the end of the game.

In short: if Shepard would have acted like you say, then I would concur.
He simply didn't.
Sometimes it even felt as if Shepard were okay with working for Cerberus. Felt especially painful when he tried to recruit Ashley on Horizon.

And that's why Ashley is right.

Case closed for me - because we're talking about "headcanon" or "how do I RP my Shepard."

My Shepard did mistakes ... horrible mistakes. And he hates himself for that. Regardless of what he have achieved in ME2, he's not proud of it, not a bit.

Back to Ashley.

@Swaggacide; I'm not saying Shepards motivations were wrong, but he never explained them to Ash, not properly. He says cerberus rebuild him, is Ash supposed to think that's fine and dandy? OFcourse not, they are cerberus, an organisation with a reputation for conducting unethical research, some of which being on mind-control. Ash knows this, she's right in doubting whether Shepard is still Shepard. He never tries to explain this.

Secondly, it's entirely logical Ashley would call him a traitor. The Shepard she knew fought AGAINST Cerberus, now he turns up with Cerberus. Shepard's turn to explain why, but alas, his way of explaining is "They are the only ones willing to stop the collectors." That's it. He never laid her valid concerns to rest. Now she gets a little "conspiracy theory paranoid" after this, but also suggests that he might be doing things for Cerberus because he feels he owes them.

He now blames her of being over-emotional and says she's not using her logic. In other words, he doesn't find it weird at all to show up with Cerberus and feels like it's weird that Ashley isn't convinced by him saying "Cerberus rebuild me and then told me they were the only ones willing to stop the Reapers."

And when Ashley replies with: "What if they are controlling you?" he calls her over emotional or not making any sense. During this he not once said "Hey Ash, I know this must've been hard on you, believing I was dead and then seeing me with Cerberus. Maybe I can't prove that Cerberus won't betray me, but I can't risk not believing them, it could be fatal to humanity. You know me, I fight for what I believe is right. There must be so many emotions going through you right now, but please, don't judge me too soon."

Ashley lashed out to hard and showed too little trust. Shepard had to explain why he was with Cerberus and tell her that he was doing this for what he believed was right and instead of doing tha tproperly he accused her, or worse, ended up asking her to join him.

Ashley has nothing to apologize for...

think about her POV, she hasn't seen nor heard from you in two years. She thought you were DEAD. Now she finds out you MAY be alive and is sent to investigate. She finds you at the head of a cerberus team. She remembers Cerberus as the terrorist organization from ME1 and their horrible experiments etc...

So, knowing that... she should just welcome you back with open arms and not ask any questions... or even be the least bit suspicious? PLEEEEASE.

Not even thinking of the possibility of someone returning from the dead, her logical assumption is that you've been working IN SECRET with Cerberus for the last two years... to her, that sounds pretty traitorous. And she is completely right to think that way.

Shepard, being newly revived from death and being the bonehead in the dialog that the writers made him doesn't think it's been very long and doesn't see the big deal with dying and working with Cerberus... so he acts all casual about it. What is her reaction to that supposed to be? SMH

Honestly, Shepard needs to sit her down in ME3 and explain the entire thing and how it happened... although seeing as how its AN ALL OUT GALACTIC WAR... that probably won't happen.

Besides, Ash sorta apologized already in her email. That leaves Shepard as the one that needs to do some apologizing.
