Lt. Commander Ashley Williams thread: "Don't 'Ash' me!" We're Back Baby!

No, what I'm seeing from Ash is really more of a design choice by the devs. The female characters. and this includes Tali and Liara who both definitely went up a few cup sizes from the first game, are given more eye candy appearances.
It's not necessarily a sexist thing since it also occurs with Male Characters (Jacob, Thane, Fenris, etc.)

I didn't mean as in like one or two people lol
But again, why are you so vocal now in the negative sense? Does it not have to do with her being made over physically? I've seen some good comments regarding her appearance, but most have been pretty negative if not mixed and the frequent use of "Miranda-fication is a good indicator for that. (On this forum) Outside the forum, there're probably many who do like her make-over, but there's no denying of the folks who don't like it.

ash is not miranda 2.0.Miranda is not the only woman in the galaxy who can have dark flowing hair and a tight leather suit.
Here we go! This is exactly what I was trying to say. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit upset before I guess I'm just tired of all the "Ash is being Miranda-ized" doom and gloomers. I personally have faith that BW will follow through with Ashley's character and she will continue to be the gorgeous, sarcastic, practical (And sometimes deadly

Who knows, maybe Ash will make a comment about how all you had to do to get her in those thigh high boots was go before a military tribunal, which probably means you still owe her dinner.

lol, now that would be funny... I can so see that happening though.
Shepard: "Hey Mr. Bhatia, how're you doing? Been a while. I'd like a... number seven and... What'd you want, Ash?"
Ashley: "Yeah I'll take a number 4."
Shepard: "And a number 4. *Looks over his/her shoulder* Um... and you might want to leave the system. Like now."

Sigh... other site I go on, the Escapist, has made another thread about what characters in games you hate and inveitably there was a recurring phrase which always included the words:
"Ashley."
"Racist."
"B*tch."
"Nuked."
Now I'm in a bad mood, thank god for this thread though. I seriously joined the Bioware Social Network just so that I could socialize in one space where I could proudly say:
'I like Ashley!'
Without getting flamed and without having accusations thrown at me about how I must be secretly racist or carefully considered responses about how Tali/Liara/Miranda is sooo much better and therefore I'm obviously a (insert insensitive remark here) for picking Ashley.
So I guess what I'm saying is, if I had never found this thread, I'd still be tearing my hair out in frustration on a daily basis due to the League of Extraordinary Morons I have to deal with on a regular basis on other sites. So thank you Ash fans.
I hear that. Sometimes, even though I don't always reply, I read a lot of posts on this thread. I see these posts, relieved that there are other who like her, who truly seem to understand and appreciate what the writers were trying to do...and then I look elsewhere. It might even be more frustrating because people here explain it so well, it's like others learn nothing.
You should be aware, though, that these people on the Escapist and so on may not represent the majority of fans...they're simply the loudest.

So sick of people hating on Ashley's new look. Casey Hudson has already
stated (As I have mentioned before in both this thread AND several
others) that she WILL be getting both armor and a helmet in ME3. It may
look nothing like her original Phoenix design but she WILL be getting
it. Now please, just stop ruining the enjoyment of all of us actual Ash
fans that will enjoy having her character around no matter in what style
she wears her hair or what uniform she chooses to wear. Thank
you...
Relax. It not worth getting so worked up over.
They have legit concerns about Ashley. I have some of them too. For example that they Mirandafied her too much.
Only
time will tell. I want Ashley to be Ashley. I want her character still
intact. While the new outfit does look good from a purely male fantasy
point of view is perfectly understandable but that just isn't Ashley as
we knew her. Maybe she still has the same character. That would put me
at ease.
We are all actual Ash fans. Just because some of us show
some real concern for the character we are not considered Ash fans by
you. Be a bit friendlier in the future please.
I understand Garrison's frustration, but it's true, you don't have to love every single thing related to the character in order to be a fan. I have mixed feelings myself. Actual armor was promised, but who knows what it'll look like. She's returning as a major role, but her original writer left; maybe the replacement will pick up where E'toile left off, or maybe he/she will try to appease the critics (which would be understandable, but...not exactly good). I don't want to be too critical myself, I want to be happy with what I'm getting. But I just don't know yet.
I do have to say, it's not the criticism I resent, it's the...manner in which it's given. Like, "Nice suit, Ashley, give it back to Miranda,", like only Miranda can pull it off, like we can give her some sort of poetic license but Ashley is not allowed such a luxury. Or like every other female in the series can dress completely inappropriately for heavy combat, but when one more does it---and she's by no means the worst offender--it's suddenly an issue.
And I've said it before, but I really dislike the constant mentioning of Miranda.

This isn't exactly a new concept (even similar colors!). I only stopped at two because I didn't want to stretch this post much longer. I'm not saying it's good, only that...well, it's not a Miranda thing, it's a video game thing.
That being said, even though I found Ash's outfit acceptable--not great, acceptable--I am relieved she'll get to wear armor. Since in ME2 everyone had their own unique look, I'll take a guess and say her suit serves as the bare template, for which various kinds of armor can be added upon.

I've always liked Ashley Williams. Of all the Bioware LI's she is the most down to earth, almost normal, person. I found the above picture at the mass effect wikia and I must say that she does look better than she did in Me1. She doesn't really look miranda-fied at all.

"Skipper, I spent my whole life trying to get what I wanted. To get it done I had to bury a lot of things. During that whole time not even once did I feel I was worth what I was fighting for."
She just didn't think she could afford to be any more than a soldier to be at least moderately succesful within the Alliance, because of her family's blacklisting.
To say she just doesn't care about looks isn't right. She comments on her sister's figure, when she tells Shepard about her family. She says something like, she wished she'd look that good at that age, when Liara tells them how old she is.
Now, that she accomplished something beyond her wildest dreams, becoming an Alliance officer and a Spectre, she experiments with her own look. That she allows herself to do so now isn't out of character at all, imo.

I see Ashley's character development along the lines of the sentence she says in the romance scene before Ilos.

Secondly...
It's NOT about just the outfit!! geez. She could be wearing black tape in the shape of stars over her nipples and a g-string and it wouldn't matter to me as long as she was still Ashley (though I'd seriously question why she thought that was a good idea to wear during combat!
Sure she can have some character growth and development... but I don't think she should radically change her views or her beliefs or her sense of humor, etc.
IDK how many times I have to say this, yet people still say... "stop bashing the new look", people are scared, complaining, etc b/c of what it MAY mean to her character in the game.
and for the record, I LOVE her hair down and she actually looks pretty great in that outfit... but that's not the point.

In ME1 she was an Alliance soldier 24 hours a day. We never saw her outside of duty as a grunt.
In ME3 her job description is different and she has more freedom to look the way she wants. If she'd had that freedom in ME1, I have no doubt we'd have seen her with her hair down and some lip gloss on.

I'd also like to see Ash wear that gas mask looking helmet that Kaidan and Zaeed wear. It's look great on her.

I'm actually hoping there's a scene kind of like this just after they escape Earth. Whether it's just a nice quiet alone moment for Shepard, taking in what's happening or if Ashley (since she's there - whether she's a love interest or not) could walk in and share that quiet moment in some way.
Oh man, either way can you imagine being Shepard (or anyone really) and looking at that?

If it weren't for all the innocent people getting killed, I'd love to watch something like that.
One of my favorite parts of ME1 was the ending in the Citadel tower with the burning cherry trees and the burning leaves falling down.

The Hairdo maybe, but that outfit is perfectly practical as it is a Casual outfit and even though it is, it still has armor plating on it similar to Moridon's outfit. If it' good enough for a nearly 50 year old Salarian genius, it should be good enough for our Spectre since she does get special weapons and armor due to her status now.Chignon wrote...
